Stopped in here on the way out of town after looking for a chill place to relax after reffing a bunch of youth basketball games. I was immediately greeted by a young hostess who was happy to find me a table, but I said I'd find a spot at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Sophia who handed me a beer list and was happy to pour a sample. That's nice service to start out with. She checked in but was never overbearing. A+. Their unique 60/40 beef/bacon burgers caught my eye...mine had cheese sauce, tons of bacon, and bacon jam. You can only have these cooked medium well or well done; for a burger I feel that's acceptable. Sandwich components were all delightful...the beer battered fries have a nice smooth coating and the house made ranch was the thinner variety was a great complement too. I'll kip the pretzel bun next time; I didn't find it to be a great complement to the components on the burger. I felt too many taps had crappy mass-produced domestics for the squares out there. I highly recommend the Mason City Cream Ale. Wish they sold their glasses! Credit cards have a 2.99% service fee. Thankfully, debit cards have no fee...which is the law. While visiting with family in Iowa, a college friend who I hadn't seen in almost 19 years texted me and asked if we could meet up at Boukder Tap House for lunch (dinner). We had a great visit and the food (as well as the beer and service) was fantastic. Started off with the Crispy Fried Pickles as the appetizer. I ordered the Legendary Bone-In wings (with sweet & spicy sauce) while Shelly had the Chicken Cobb Salad. Washed it down with a Peanut Butter Stout and a Claymore Scotch Ale. Large portions, mediocre food, excellent service. Sunday night, we were staying downtown and couldn't find a place to eat. Seems most restaurants are closed on Sunday. Boulder Tap House was open so we ended up here. We arrived without reservations and they were moderately busy. We were seated right away and immediately a waitress was there to take our drink order. The beers are large. The menu looked good so we ordered the jalapeño cheese wontons (when they arrived the looked and tasted like poppers), cups of soup and tacos. The wontons/ popper were awful. We each tried one and left the rest. I had the potato soup and my husband ordered the chili. Both were very good. I was really looking forward to the Nashville hot tacos. They were disappointing. Too sweet, greasy and didn't have any heat. My husband's fish tacos were acceptable. The waitress was vey attentive and deserves 5 stars. She upped the rating from 2 to 3 stars. Was in town for a family event and we were trying to find a place with the space and menu variety to manage a larger group (9) - Boulder Tap House fit the bill perfectly. We were able to sit together in the back room without issue. The menu, expansive, had something for everyone and many items that caught my eye. In the end, almost everyone in our group had something different and all were pleased. We also had a few appetizers - the house made cheese curds had that homemade charm, the avocado fries were a delicious way to get both avocado AND breading in my mouth, and the house made tater tots in the totchos were very good (I've never seen a place with house made tots before - at first I wondered where the tots were because they didn't look like the ones you normally see!). Gave the place another try after not being hear for a couple year. Definitely has not improved. Had a Philly and fries. The Philly was basically burnt meat with a couple overcooked pieces of peppers onions and mushrooms on an oversized hotdog bun with some horrible excuse for a cheese sauce on it, paired with rather soggy fries that seemed to be a couple hours old. In the good side, service was prompt and fairly attentive, so will give the server a good review, but the food was bad...simply bad. And the price was much higher than most restaurants for a Philly and fries, and other are much better and bigger!! read more

Wow, we had such a great experience here during a hockey tournament. A group of 10 was able to sit at two separate tables and we had just the best meal. Service was great, there are tons of TVs and a great selection on tap. I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality and imagination on some of the meals For example, the cheese curd appetizer is phenomenal. They make them in house and are perfect. Get them with the house sauce, they are memorable. Also loved the totchos and better yet the Jalepeno Rangoon was also quite good. The rest of the menus are simple burgers and wings, but food was great. I felt comfortable with the Covid guidelines. Expect them to make you give your number and they will call you when your seat is ready. The wait time was pretty accurate. We will definitely be eating here again. read more

Passing through and needed to grab a bite to eat, seen the parking lot was full so figured it would be a good place. Wrong, we were seated by the bar and kitchen, couldn't help hearing the bar tender and staff were gripping about customers and there jobs. Waitress was on top of her game by coming to our table several seconds apart looking for us to hurry up and take our orders. When got our food, A 14$ hamburger that was dry and cold and wings that were burnt and no taste fries and chips tasted to be done in old grease that fish was cooked in. The food lacked effort and flavor. Overall grease fest. Asked for a medium rare burger off the menu that allows that cook and got a medium well burger. The corn curl ribs.. leave much to be desired. I ordered a salad to come before our dinner which ended up coming with the rest of our food (after I had to ask another waitress for it) my husbands wings were so salt and cold we couldn't eat them, both of mine and my kids food were lukewarm as well but we all still ate. The waitress Autum did not fill our drinks nor did she ask ( maybe that's because she only checked on us twice the whole time). The manager did the take the wings off of our ticket but didn't seem to care that we had poor service. They have a large selection of beer choices and our server was extremely knowledgeable on them all. They also have a large selection of specialty drinks. I had their tea drink that was amazing. We had several appetizers including pretzels and cheese, wontons, fried pickles, cheese curds and house chips. They all were delicious and no complaints. Everyone ordered different meals with no complaints. I had a build a burger that included fried jalapeños, cheese curds and bacon. The burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the rest complimented the burger to perfection. The service was the best! The server we had kept all the drinks full and juggled all the orders! The whole vibe was a nice mix of energetic but still laid back, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The food quality was just so-so. The dry rub on the chicken wings was pretty dusty, making it not the best carrier for flavor - I'd recommend getting a sauce instead. The beer selection was great, though, and the other food items were fine. If you're looking to watch the game while hanging with friends and grabbing a meal, the Boulder is a fine option.
