I tried the Thai Stir Fry with tofu. This rice dish comes with broccoli, shredded carrots and a tasty spicy peanut sauce. (I omitted the snap peas.) You can get a regular or small. I ordered the regular, which came in a deep bowl but it wasn't filled so it's kind of a waste of space. However, it was very filling; I ate half and saved the rest for later. It was a good dish. Their online allergen guide graciously informs which items are vegan and/or gluten-free, as well what needs to be modified to make it so. The guide told me to remove the peanuts from the Thai Stir Fry dish to make it vegan. I don't know what they do to the nuts (butter maybe??) to make them non vegan. If this were in any other city I'd rate it a 3, but because it's Mason City, and the options are limited, they get brownie points. I would return. read more

Offer vegan food options but none for their kidz eat free Saturday. Came specifically for that then had to pay because they wouldn't substitute vegan option. Then ordered a spicy peanut bowl which needs the peanuts left out to be vegan, which I forgot to do, but remembered before being served, but because they had finished making it my only option was to pay for a whole new bowl. When I'm traveling and it's lunch time I always try and stop here for a healthy tasty lunch. The fajita rice bowl is delicious. I wish there were more locations. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is nice. The inside of the restaurant is a cool industrial design with lots of metal and wood accents. Z'mariks basically keeps me alive when I'm in town. They have fantastic salads and different bowls to try. I've had those and their chicken noodle soup. It's amazing. You need to try the spicy peanut noodle bowl with a side of sour cream. You have to ask for the sour cream but it takes the heat of the spicy peanut down a noble notch, which I need. The staff has always been pretty friendly. In Mason City it's hard to find a really fresh salad with chicken on top, without committing to a full service restaurant, and Z'Mariks can make that happen, in a jiffy! I call them on my way home from work, stop in and boom! I've got dinner! And you will too! Try it!! read more

It was pretty good, not five stars for me though. We had the Spicy Peanut noodle dish and the pesto pasta. I like my pesto on spaghetti, so I think I just assumed it would come that way. It was bowtie pasta, which just does not equal "noodle" for me, for some reason. Anyway, it was good but not as rich a flavor as one would expect from a basil pesto. Couldn't really taste the basil as a bright flavor that much; I even wondered if it came from a jar, but I'm NOT implying that it does. 3-stars. I wouldn't get it again. My wife had the spicy peanut dish, and it was pretty good too, maybe a tad too sweet. Maybe 4-stars. But I wouldn't get that again either. The place was very clean and bright. Looked to be a fairly new building. In a small strip mall. The food came out quickly. The people who work here are really nice and courteous. We stopped in on a weekday evening, probably half a hour before close, hoping for 2 to go orders. The staff was very accommodating and assured us it was no trouble that it was getting close,to closing, which is a breath of fresh air compared to many fast food type establishments in the area. We were very happy to find this cafe. We drive up to Mason City a couple of times week and usually need a lunch or dinner while there. When I saw Z'mariks we were glad to see fresh food options that weren't dripping in grease. (Greasy spoon joints are great but not for every outing). I had the Greek Salad and the Gyro. Delicious!
