I decided to surprise my daughter with a night out on the town with dinner, carriage ride and then some dessert. All as a surprise. Upon calling I spoke with the owner and she did have a few spots opened for that Friday evening. She explained where to meet at, the pricing, what to expect and more. She was kind and informative of her service. We met at the destination downtown in the parking lot of don halls and was greeted by the owner. She explained how the ride would go and helped us inside, giving us two huge warm blankets that were made by the Amish. She gave us information on the buildings as we made our way downtown and we waved and cars stopped at the stop lights and other carriage riders. She talked about her business and how it evolved, etc. when we arrived back at the parking lot she helped us down, we paid and went on our merry way. It was a relaxing ride that we both enjoyed and would def do it again. Maybe in the summer months.

But Glitz and Glamour left this place a long time ago. The place needs a major overhaul. The sound system also needs upgraded, as we were stuck way in the back and couldn't hear anything said through the mics. We did have a good time, but I attribute that more towards the people we were with rather than the surroundings.

The accomplishment of having the whole wedding paid for was quite rewarding until I received another bill a week after the wedding reception. When I contacted Goegleins Catering about the situation, Greg Goeglein stated that they 'forgot' to add a charge and that it was 'human error'. He was very rude, arrorgant and very condenscending with his 'so called' apology. Of course I paid the bill which by the way was MORE than a couple hundred dollars. First, the air conditioning situation was absolutely unacceptable. It was nearly 100° outside with the heat index, and despite repeatedly asking staff to lower the temperature, nothing ever changed. As the bride, I was drenched in sweat in my wedding dress -- a dress I'd been dreaming about wearing all day -- and I ended up having to change out of it early because I genuinely felt like I was going to pass out. It was heartbreaking and not something any bride should have to go through. To make matters worse, the back door leading to the ceremony space had to be left open all day. If it closed, it would automatically lock, requiring someone to walk all the way around the building to reopen it. This only made the AC issue worse and left the space feeling stuffy and uncomfortable. Which had guest looking at the thermostat that read 76 all night. We also chose the "picnic package" for our catering, which included hamburgers and condiments. While the food tasted good, the condiments provided were only ketchup, mustard, and BBQ sauce. No pickles, onions, lettuce, or anything else you'd typically expect for a picnic-style burger bar. It felt really underwhelming and a bit misleading based on how it was described especially since we had already brought in our own desserts and cocktail snacks. I would've brought toppings if I knew they weren't included if I was told. That said, I do want to shout out the bartender -- she was absolutely lovely -- and the rest of the staff helping out were kind and polite throughout the event. Unfortunately, it just didn't make up for the other major issues. Lastly, the "groom's getting ready room" was not at all what we expected. It was essentially a dark storage closet with no lighting, barely big enough for two people. We weren't shown this space during our tour -- we were told it was "in use" -- but had we seen it, we would've made different plans. We paid a premium for this venue, and while there were some positives, the lack of transparency, climate control, and overall delivery made what should've been the best day of our lives feel unnecessarily stressful and uncomfortable.

Don't bother with the tiny parking lot in front of the building unless you need an accessible space! Drive past it and follow the signs to the large gravel lot. It is a further walk but much less cramped and more likely to find a spot.

The Fairfield is a beautiful venue with a gorgeous event space. The large windows provide plenty of…read morenatural light, and the room itself creates an elegant atmosphere that was perfect for the event. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the venue. The venue coordinator was difficult to find throughout the evening and, when approached, was consistently unfriendly and came across as rude to guests. The bartenders remained behind the bar all night, even when an entire table of champagne glasses needed to be filled. Instead of assisting, guests had to carry all of the glasses to the bar themselves. On top of that, the drinks themselves were disappointing. The biggest issue was the venue's lack of staffing and service. This was an event with well over 100 guests, yet The Fairfield had only two bartenders and two additional staff members, one of whom was the venue coordinator. The outside caterer, who served an excellent dinner at 5:00 PM, actually had more staff on site than the venue. Table clearing was the responsibility of the venue staff, not the caterer, yet the venue didn't begin clearing tables until after 9:00 PM. By then, many guests had already cleared their own plates and trash in an effort to keep the room tidy. Even that became difficult because the trash cans had been overflowing for most of the evening. The venue also ran out of cake plates. When more were requested, the venue coordinator responded rudely, saying she would "see what she could do," despite the fact that fewer than 50 plates had been used at that point. Knowing the family hosting the event and having attended other events they've planned, I know they are incredibly organized and detail-oriented. I'm confident the event timeline, guest count, staffing expectations, and responsibilities were thoroughly discussed during the planning process. Based on what I witnessed, the shortcomings were not due to poor planning by the hosts but rather the venue's lack of preparation and execution. The Fairfield is a stunning venue, and it has so much potential. However, until customer service, staffing levels, and event management improve, I would have a hard time recommending it for larger events.

Lazer X is so fun. It has the biggest laser tag arena I've ever seen or played in. Even the area where you suit up with your laser gun and watch a movie about the rules of the game is cool. I played two games back to back, and both games had at least 20 to 30 people. The arena is so huge that even that number of people seemed like a small amount. Beyond laser tag, there's also an arcade with lots of video games, skee ball, dance games and other things to do. It's very dark inside Lazer X, but your eyes quickly adjust. When it comes time to leave Lazer X, though, you're in for a rude awakening: It's hella bright outside! Agh! But assaulted pupils are a small price to pay for a good time here.
