Huge store with all types of used and new books. I only had time to look in the children's section…read morewhich was huge and decently organized by categories such as (sensory/cause and effect, holidays, popular authors, language, potty training, family). You could spend a good chunk of time browsing through the bins and shelves. It is great that they have a train table in the kids area so they kids can play while you browse the books. I was searching for Lunar New Year books, but couldn't find any. They had a bin for the big holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Easter and a general holiday bin for smaller holidays. The employees were nice and can system search by author/title, but they couldn't do a search by general topic/genre.

The Used Book Superstore in Burlington is my personal money pit -- and honestly, I'm fine with it…read more I've never managed to leave with fewer than ten books, and at this point, I don't even pretend I will. The selection feels endless. Every genre, every niche, and then, just when you think you've seen it all, there's a wall of Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, board games, and random bits of memorabilia you didn't know you wanted until they're already in your basket. The prices are almost insulting to other stores. Seriously, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I have for some of the books here. You'd almost feel guilty... except you don't, because you're too busy carrying out a stack taller than your torso. The staff is excellent -- actually helpful, not the fake "let me know if you need anything" kind. They've tracked down what I came in looking for, and then somehow convinced me to walk out with three more titles I didn't even know existed. My shelves at home are groaning under the weight of their recommendations, but sure, suggest me another series. Why not. I've been a regular for about a year now, and as long as I live in Massachusetts, this will be one of the few places I actually look forward to throwing money at. You never know what you'll find here, which is exactly why I keep coming back.

Annie's Box Stop is a charming little shop in Amherst. There's an extensive classics section, with…read morebooks like Henri Troyat's bio of Tolstoy to Phyllis Rose's "Parallel Lives" about famous Victorian relationships such as George Eliot&her married lover George Lewes, to Charles Dickens&Catherine Hogarth. Most of the books are cheap paperback thrillers. The cookbook section is quite small, tho the religion/spirituality section is surprisingly large. It also has an enormous romance novels section- http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2012/12/25-most-ridiculous-romance-novel-covers/ And not the high quality kind. If you want cheap thrills, this is the place to go.

I go…read morethrough about a book a week and any way to save a penny and also support local businesses is very exciting to me. I drove almost half an hour to get to Annie's Book Stop, with my baby in tow. As I walked in, I was greeted with a "Kids books are in the back". Not even a hello. I said thank you and proceeded through the store. My baby then informed me that she needed to use the bathroom. As a potty training child prone to accidents, that's a general emergency for me. I asked the woman at the counter if there was a restroom my baby could use, I was answered with "Not a public one. You'll have to go to Wendy's". After a moment, realizing my child couldn't hold it, we left. As someone who works in a locally owned business, I know the importance of customer service. I can't say I'll ever return to this shop, which is probably a bigger disappointment for me than it will be for them.

Annie's Book Stop is a fantastic local book store providing both used & new books. If the owner,…read moreAndrea, doesn't have what you are looking for she will order it. It usually comes in within a couple days. The prices are good, never full list price (new books are usually 20% off, used are 50% off list price), and the condition of the used books is usually very good. I've gotten children's books, young adult novels, books for required reading in college lit classes, sci fi, horror, noir, chick lit, graphic novels, etc. at Annie's. Pretty much any genre you're looking for, she has. There are even out of print titles, so check here if you can't find something at one of the big chains. Ask for help finding your book & Andrea will always know exactly where what your looking for is. I think she uses the force. Where do all the used books come from? The customers. You can bring in any paper back books & get credit to use on your purchase. The credit never expires, but you have to keep track of your slip because there's no way to look it up. If you're anything like me, you might want to use your credit right on the spot to prevent losing out on savings. One more thing: if you bring in a truck load of books don't expect the store to take all of them at once. Apparently there's a limit (not a set in stone one, but whatever) to how many trades they'll take a day. This protects the bottom line, I guess. And if that's what it takes to have a cool little bookstore in Beverly, it's worth it. Still 5 stars. Almost forgot: it's right across from the North Beverly T stop & Nick's Roast Beef (yum). Parking is out back and there is a 2nd entrance back there. Go get some books!

I purchased the book, "Ballet" by Cecil Beaton and it just arrived (extremely quickly I must add -…read moreand FREE shipping) and I have to say that it is in even better condition than listed. Though no picture was included with the ad the book and jacket were both listed as "Very Good" (though I think "Excellent" for both would be more accurate) so I took a chance and purchased it and I must say I am more than pleased. I have been searching for this book as a gift for a friend's birthday and most of the copies for sale either on ebay or at other booksellers were in much worse condition and the prices were exorbitant and much more than I was willing to spend. This copy is BEAUTIFUL and near pristine and the price was extremely fair and reasonable. I would recommend anyone looking for a new or especially an out of print book to first check with MANCHESTER BY THE BOOK because if they have what you are looking for you will not be disappointed. I am only sorry I am not closer to their store so that I can spend time browsing their aisles/shelves, but I will be sure to follow them on Facebook and whenever I need an out of print book in the future they will be the first store/website that I will check out.

Never coming back to this place again…read more My husband and I purchased six books totaling over $100. While checking out, my husband politely asked the owner if he would consider selling one extremely worn, old book for $5 instead of $15. To our surprise, the owner refused to lower the price at all. What made this especially frustrating was that the book looked like it had been sitting in a pile near the bathroom, wasn't a classic, bestseller, or even a well-known title, and appeared to be something that may have originally come from a free library box. Meanwhile, we overheard the owner complaining to another customer that he has too many books and not enough space, even saying he had donated many books to clear room. The whole interaction felt hypocritical and left a very bad impression. We are passionate book buyers and regularly spend a lot on books, but after this experience, this is a store we will never return to.
