Why did it take us so long to visit? I suppose their limited hours (Tuesday to Friday) had a lot to do with it, but we did visit today and I'm very glad we did. Why? Well, here ya go... 1) Thompson Chocolates goes way back to 1879 and has been in Meriden since Day One. They are one of the first chocolate companies in America. 2) The store is gorgeous and beautifully organized with colorful displays of chocolate bars, pops, bark, gift boxes, chocolate coins and cigars, and jellybeans. 3) We met the owner Jackie, who was one of the very nicest, friendliest, and generous business owners we've ever seen. 4) We walked into a BOGO sale of leftover Easter candies and scored a nice bag of Dark Easter Eggs and an Easter Goodie Bag for zippo 5) Jackie was super generous and tossed four gift bags of assorted chocolate into our shopping bag as freebies. 6) You get a 10% discount with your Yelp check in. 7) They have a 10% Senior Citizen discount on Wednesday and a military discount every day. 8) They have a mail order business through an on-line store. 9) We paid under $22 for a box of dark chocolate raspberry jellies, two Easter Goodie Bags, two bags of Easter Dark Chocolate Eggs, and four small mesh gift bags of assorted chocolates. One was white chocolate which will be a perfect treat for my granddaughter who won't eat milk or dark chocolate. I sure hope that gives you an idea of how great our visit to Thompson was.

Both Tulmeadow and Lacroix's made @cticecreamtour's Top 15 CT Creameries. My original reviews for both Tulmeadow and Lacroix's were both good btw. I just didn't initially connect with the flavors I tried in the way that I did with my other CT favorites. Since those initial reviews, everything I tried at each has been a banger. At Lacroix's, I've now had Banana ice cream, Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, Biscoff ice cream and a Sundae with coconut caramel ice cream and a S'mores flavor. The sundae with hot fudge, peanut butter sauce, whipped cream and maybe the best cherry I've ever had in a sundae (don't know what they did) was great, but it's harder to pick out the flavors of the ice cream with all the delicious toppings. The ice cream seemed very good though. The Peanut Butter Cup flavor was outstanding. Very rich with big gobs of cups. The banana flavor was amazingly realistic. And the Biscoff was very good too. For me, the last time i saw a real emu was yesterday. The emu's name was Frosty, and he/she(?) happens to be a resident of Robb's Farm Ice Cream in Glastonbury. We also saw a donkey and half a dozen goats in fenced in fields, so Robbs sure gives you some value added to their sensational ice cream. Robbs has many of the traditional flavors, but some cryptic flavors that will send you scurrying to their posted cheat sheets to decipher the ingredients. Some of yesterday's flavors were Cow Pies, Dirty Barn Shoes, Donkey Tails, Llama Delight, Purple Calf, Tractor Grease, and Udderly Ridiculous, Not only is their ice cream terrific, but its reasonably priced. A 2-scoop cup is just $4 with tax included. I couldn't resist some of their crazily named flavors, so my two scoops were Purple Calf (black raspberry with cookie dough and chocolate chips) and Tractor Grease (chocolate with fudge and chocolate chip cookie dough). There is no fee to enter. The owners renovated a 1976 ice cream truck and brings it to events like weddings, corporate events, Anniversaries, etc. They have a fleet of vehicles that serves ice cream; some of these can be rented for events too, for example, a party trailer. They offer cups, cones, and ice cream sandwiches called Chillwiches. I had the Cookie Monstah Chillwich; this was huge! Vanilla ice cream with cookie dough, chocolate drizzle, in between two large chocolate chunk cookies. It was amazing and I couldn't finish it because it was so large. They have a variety of flavors to choose from. Overall, a very delicious ice cream and I highly recommend.

I'd highly recommend incorporating this ice cream stop into your visit to the Connecticut Science Center. Pick this over a grinder/sub next store.
