piece of Eggnog fudge, at Litchfield Candy Company.

Stopped into see if this shop sold Chocolate covered Gummy Bears -- and they did ! My wife loved the Gummy Bears I bought for her here, they were high quality. Haven't been able to find a place which sold those gummy bears since our local candy shop shut down a few years ago, so I was ecstatic when I came across The Litchfield Candy Company. The shop was loaded with a wide assortment of candies, I bought a piece of eggnog fudge for myself (it was excellent). Owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about the candy business, we had a good conversation which was very educational for me. An Easy 5 Star rating, looking forward to many return visits.

Litchfield Candy is such a cute store ! It's small but packed with virtually every kind of candy you could imagine. They also have several different kinds of fudge along with other chocolate candies. They decorated the store for Valentines Day - really nicely done. I bought some fresh chocolate dipped strawberries and walnut fudge for myself. I had a nice talk with the woman working there, very helpful and kind. Very relaxed atmosphere. I couldn't believe they managed to fit all that stuff into a one room store. Whoever owns it, clearly has a passion for candy and sweets. Very well done ! If I'm ever back in the area, will definitely return.

When you walk in, the smell hits you - chocolate, candy, sugar... It's positively delicious. It is a small store, and never fear, they have multiple reserved parking spots in the back. They have all sorts of candy available - some brand names, loose pieces, bagged. For the holidays, they have premade platters and boxes available. You can also make your own box of truffles, which are enticingly displayed in two cases. It is pricer than say, a generic box at CVS, but the chocolate is rich and all so much more original, it's definitely worth it. They also have so much variety, you'll find something for everyone in your party. There is a fee passed forward for paying with a credit card, so bring cash!

A wonderful candy shop with so many great choices to choose from. They also sell Vermont nut-free chocolate. Second time here in the past month and happy to see heart hot cocoa bombs. So yummy and easy to make. Love all the chocolate covered candy choices. A must visit place if you love sweets.

This is a really nice candy shop - it reminds me of the ones you see all over the place in Western New York. They have piles of candy and chocolate everywhere. At the time we visited, it was during the run up to Easter, so there was stuff all over the place. The guy behind the counter was really friendly and helpful. I asked if they had sponge candy (a WNY staple) and they did! I got a couple of pieces along with some caramels, and Lee picked up some buckeyes and some ice cubes. They had a bunch of those old-school obscure candy brands as well. I was a little bit disappointed in the sponge candy (it had gotten moisture into it at some point, so it was more chewy than crispy) but the other candy we picked up was perfectly fine. Really nice shop run by nice people!

It's like a place where grand mother welcomes and gives you candies. It's a lovely and adorable candy shop in Litchfield. I was trying to go to a restaurant and saw this place. When I entered, it was full of sweets and it smelled so good!! I couldn't just pass so I got some home made chocolate. The almond caramel chocolate was pretty good. The truffles chocolate was just okay. Even if you don't buy anything here, you can just stop by and check this out if you are in this area. It's a cute place!

And unlike their incredibly high-priced restaurant across the street, al Tavolo, you might actually afford to eat here. The owners have done an admirable creating an environment that's comfortable and low-key without sacrificing their commitment to quality. After all, the phrase "a mano" translates to "by hand," reflecting how the vast majority of items here are made from scratch on site. I come here often for their coffee, which I love for its balance and low acidity compared to Starbucks, etc. But the real star of the show here are the pastries, such as a layered s'more bar the size of a small brick; a variety of gourmet doughnuts (my favorite is the lemon-filled); and "cruffins," a combination of croissant and muffin with a delicious cream filling. My usual go-to are their bagels: slightly crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside. There's also a full sandwich and salad menu with breakfast and lunch options including salads, sandwiches, a quiche of the day, and other specials. Their breakfast egg sandwiches -- seemingly modeled on the now-famous one at Sagaponack General Store in the Hamptons -- are especially popular. While $13 for a basic egg sandwich is a bit ridiculous even for a gourmet one, you'll have little complaint once you have a taste. While you're perusing the menu and pastries, don't forget to check out the well-stocked selection of farm-fresh cheeses and other Arethusa Farm products. And, if you've got room aftewards, don't forget to stop at the Arethusa Farm Dairy Store for some ice cream -- it's also across the street, next to Arethusa al Tavolo. (Disclaimer: I grew up in the area, though I don't know any former or current employees of Arethusa.)

So we packed up the car and took my 89 y/o mom there, got her out of the car, got her seated, waited in the line for ten minutes ordered my oatmeal and was told " we don't have oatmeal." I suggested to the lovely young blond lady that "they should update their menu." She did not say sorry or even acknowledge what I was saying, and just smiled at me. We left disappointed. But nothing was more disappointing than Jackie's down the road. Don't ever go there. We love Arethusa, but this experience was a real miss. Hope they update their menu.

So, when we visited the Dutch Epicure Shop, we had some high expectations. Epicure Shop is a righteous title, because they sell quite a bit of high-end epicure foods -groceries, soups, a huge deli, and a bakery with breads and pastries. They've developed a big reputation for their European pastries, breads, cookies and cakes. Yup, they make everything on the premises. As you walk around their store, you'll see German meats and sausages, Dutch and European cheeses, teas, jams, chocolates from all across Europe, and a selection of Dutch food and Dutch groceries. I was perplexed by the large selection of Indonesian foods here, but when I fired up the old Google Machine for an explanation, I learned that the Dutch ruled Indonesia from 1815 to 1920! Anyway, back to the food. We zeroed in on the bakery choices and picked up three items for $15. Our Blueberry Lemon Scone was pretty large and was topped with a delicate layer of vanilla icing. It tasted more of blueberry than lemon but was super fresh and delicious. The Almond Triangles were sold as a pair for $6. They were fantastic. Hidden between the sliced almond topping and a graham cracker-like crust was a sweet fruit layer that reminded me of apricot jam. These are addictive. The Raspberry Almond Fruit Tart was another layered treat with an almond glazed topping and a thin raspberry jam layer inside the tart. Our bakery treats were excellent and pretty reasonably priced for their home-baked quality.
