All in all, Hotel das Tigra is a nice hotel- great location, a 12 minute walk to the university, and near plenty of good cafes, restaurants, and sights. (Just a quick walk to the famous and historic Cafe Central- definitely try to get some classic Viennese apple strudel or Sacher Torte during your stay!)
The room is a decent size for Europe, and the bathroom amenities are surprisingly good quality (and smell great!) The breakfast buffet is fresh, regularly replenished, and offers a good selection. I have to note- the breakfast area staff is especially very friendly, courteous, cheerful, and warm- it's great to see them every morning, and my one-year old son especially loved them, as they were always so kind to him.
The hotel is also clean and well-kept. The decor is a bit too orange/green and old-fashioned for my taste, and the elevator is very small in typical European fashion, but that's just my personal taste.
I have an academic conference at the University of Vienna this week and booked this hotel due to the positive reviews and proximity to the university. My husband and son accompanied me on this trip for some family time and sightseeing around Vienna in between sessions. I would recommend this hotel both for work and family purposes. The room offers enough workspace for me to comfortably work, and the staff was kind enough to provide a crib for our little one (even with a chocolate on the pillow- a nice touch!)
I have to also personally mention one of the exceptional front desk staff- Martin. He went above and beyond to recommend good restaurants and cafes for our stay, was always courteous, professional, and knowledgeable, and when I had to spontaneously host a few academic colleagues at the hotel, Martin was ready to help with whatever we needed. I was really impressed with his respectfulness and customer service. In general, Hotel das Tigra has a fantastic staff, and this is the main thing I will remember from this great hotel. read more
