Jay Parker came to our home to take a look at a gigantic oak tree right next to our house that was starting to look sick. He diagnosed it as failing due to beetle infestation and said the owner needed to take a look to see if they could handle removal of a tree that large. I didn't hear from them for over two weeks. Three? NOTHING. NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL. Then one day an estimate showed up in my email with a lame apology. No thanks. If your company isn't responsible enough to at least make a follow up phone call, don't think I'll trust you with a crane and a 100+ year old oak tree. **Owner responds four months later - can you feel my eyes rolling from here? Jay never told me it was "gonna be a while" - he told me he needed his boss to check the tree out, that he would be in touch within a few days, then vanished. I never knew where we stood in the process for three weeks, after being given very grave, sad, and frightening news about our tree. Crappy, no matter how you want to spin it. Dealt with these folks in 2014. Good stuff: The job started off well but didn't end well. Once we chose this company, we had trouble getting scheduled. However, these folks did a very good cutting two of our trees and pruning back one from the house. They had a strong knowledge of tree health and proper approach. The arborist was also able to point out a dying tree issue, which was major. The company contracted with a group of stump grinders, and these guys were great. Difficult Stuff: However, I had significant issues with the pickup of the tree logs, which were substantial given the size of the very large pine tree. The log pickup handoff did not go well at all, and took multiple days beyond when they promised. When the man finally came to pick up the logs, he did so hastily, and a log ended up slamming into the neighbor's yard. He also left deep scratch marks in the concrete in front of our yard with the claw-like tool. By this time, I had been calling the office and interfacing with them much more than I would have liked, trying to find out when the log pick-up would happen. I was just so glad to have the logs gone after complaints from the neighbors and slow drive-bys from the town's code enforcement police. Too, I had trouble with billing - I had to call and then email to get info on how to remit payment. This company is on the costlier side, so, I didn't expect to have these concerns. When it came time to do work at another property, I decided not to call them again. However, they will leave your tree situation healthy. So: Pros - Great knowledge of trees and great job with cutting. Cons - Scheduling was slow, pickup of logs was slow and not well done, and billing was not smooth. read more

We hired Boutte Tree in late 2012 to fertilize/prune a weeping cheery tree and prune/remove mistletoe from 3 large water oaks in our front yard. We could not be happier with the service that we received; we were kept informed exactly what was happening when through a clearly worded contract and phone calls reminding us when the crew would be here. Donys and his crew were fantastic, handling all of the pruning and cleanup, and showing us up close the damage that mistletoe can cause a tree. I no longer live in Atlanta, but I wanted to be on site during the removal of a dead pine tree that was threatening to fall into my house, which I rent out. I had gotten four bids, and Boutte's was the lowest -- by a smidgen. One other company's representative refused to even offer a bid, saying the job would be too dangerous. Another came back with a bid that was more than double Boutte's. After deciding on Boutte, I planned my trip back to Atlanta to coincide with the date of the work. On that day, three of their workers arrived in a truck shortly after 9 a.m., and introduced themselves. The truck couldn't make it up the steep driveway, so they parked it on the street. I cautioned the crew chief that, if it was too dangerous, he should not put himself at risk. No, he said, the fact that some of the pine needles were still attached to the tree meant that it would hold his weight without snapping. He then climbed the tree while the others helped from the ground -- manipulating the ropes attached to the tree limbs and picking up the branches when they fell. After the branches had been removed, the climber -- from his perch some 60 feet up -- used his chain saw to remove the top of the tree. It fell with a thud that shook the house. For the next half hour or so, he lowered himself -- and the height of the tree trunk -- in 10-foot sections. As he approached the ground, the tree's 3-foot-wide trunk segments began to pile up at the bottom of the tree. I then began to wonder how they were going to get the wood out of the yard. I needn't have worried. A few minutes later, a second truck arrived at the house carrying a tiny bobcat loader and more crew members. One of them drove the bobcat up the hill and into the yard, collecting the wood and carrying it to the driveway. A few minutes later, as I was wondering how they were going to get it from there to the street below without bulldozing the plantings in the yard, a third truck arrived equipped with a crane. It grabbed the big pieces of tree, lifted them high and dumped them into the rear of the truck. Balanchine could not have choreographed it better. Once the tree had been reduced to a harmless stump, the workers limbed the dead wood from a couple of other trees, cleaned up meticulously and -- shortly after 5 p.m. -- departed. Boutee did a great job taking out a massive (34" diameter) oak behind my house. Tree was leaning out over the house They brought in a 40 ton crane and removed it within a matter of hours. Estimate was competitive and entire process was seamless. They did a great job communicating and scheduling. Absolutely will recommend and use again. read more

Our house had some small/medium tree limbs falling on the deck occasionally so we wanted to prune the trees before they caused any damage. Boutte Tree was awesome, they were really nice and professional (including the team members who did the actual pruning who I got to talk with for a bit). They did a fantastic job, and the trees look if anything more alive and healthy. We ran into an issue with a neighbor which was my fault for not keeping them in the loop properly, but Boutte smoothly resolved the situation to everyone's satisfaction. Boutte Tree removed a large poplar leaning toward our house and caught in another tree using their patent-pending grapple on the end of the crane that allowed them to remove the tree without allowing large limbs to free fall to the ground. They didn't disturb the azaleas or dogwood beneath the 50 plus year old tree. Four man crew was courteous, professional and all spoke fluent English. The front office was very responsive and all insurance paperwork was up to date and included our address with the date of the job with verification of workman's comp on all employees not just one employee. They emailed insurance forms and contracts promptly after giving me an estimate on the spot when they came out. They own their own crane, chipper and log truck, so their pricing was competitive with other certified arborists. Cleaned up afterwards and no surprises. Highly recommend. read more

From the sales consultant to the climbing team, everyone - every single person - showed how much they truly cared about my goals (house protection, more sun, etc) as they did about the health of the trees! A few things I wanted done they recommended against, in order to keep the trees strong and healthy. They weren't just going to hack up the tree and hope it worked. Decades of climbing and cutting made me very confident in their recommendations! And it looks gorgeous :) The consult was painless, no sales pressure or anything like that, which was a nice change... The wait time to have the trees taken down was about standard from the other companies I met. The price was several hundred below a very well known competitor and I'm just thrilled at the overall service. There wasn't a stray branch left on the property, the crew was courteous and just a real pleasure to work with. Very well done to the team at Boutte Tree. We had a positive experience with Boutte Tree to remove a large mimosa and prune and cable our pecan tree. We had great communication with the whole company - from the arborist, to the scheduler, to the on-site crew, even the contract stump grinder - everyone was courteous and responded promptly when necessary. The crew did have to make a return visit to finish a missed part of the proposal, but the situation was handled quickly (2 business days) and professionally by Jay and the crew. We contacted Boutte Tree to get an estimate to remove 4 large pine trees. The person they sent out to look at our trees, Tyler Baxter, was very knowledgeable about trees and also quite interesting. We went through the process of getting the city of Atlanta's approval. Unfortunately they only approved 2 of the trees. Tyler told us that the city likes their pine trees. I can't really understand why, but that decision could not be helped. However we were pleased with the estimate for those 2 trees, pruning of one of the pines, and pruning the large oak in our front yard. It's extremely important to me that companies communicate to me when they will be on the job and I expect them to tell me if there is a change of plans, due to things like the weather. I was happy with the level of communication we received from Boutte Tree. There is some room for improvement, but their customer service is better than most. I really like that the owner of the company works just as hard as his crew. When they came they got right to work and, although it was a big job, it took less than 6 hours. They knew what they were doing and they did a great job with the cutting and the pruning. They even left our yard cleaner than they found it it. We'd definitely use Boutte Tree again. read more

From the moment I first called to get an estimate until the last stump was ground, I received nothing but FIRST CLASS service from BOUTTE TREE. I can't say enough great things. The entire team was incredibly responsive every step of the way. Tyler came out and assessed the situation and got me a quote right away. He was very professional, knowledgeable and gave terrific suggestions. Once I signed the contract everything happened like clock work. Within 3 days, the utilities had all been marked on the property and they secured the illusive City of Atlanta arborist permits. Sal and the team (Gabriel, Alex, Jose, Martin, and Jorge) all did a tremendous job in getting the work done quickly and safely. The job was no easy task with massive pine and oak trees. Boutte Trees came, sawed, and conquered 7 massive pines in my yard. Their estimator was very friendly and incredibly responsive. They provided extremely detailed proposals with clear maps of the work and confirmed with me - several times - that the proposal was absolutely correct and in line with what I wanted. They were in constant communication, were very flexible about the scheduling, came exactly on time, and executed the work extremely well. They were very reasonable in terms of price and extremely helpful throughout the whole process. If I ever need any more work done I will not bother going to 6+ services to get quotes I will go right to this group - absolutely everything was as perfect as it could be and exceeded my very high expectations. This is my first review, but these folks really fell down on the job. If you choose to use them, the issue is scheduling, or lack thereof-- better get that in writing. To start, the arborist was very professional, but their quote was about twice as high as the next one. But, I felt comfortable with him and a big part of the job involved cutting down a tree in my neighbors yard. Arborist said this would be done first or second week of April. I signed the proposal in March. The scheduler then calls and says they can't get to it until mid-May. I was not happy, pointed out the misrepresentation but stuck with them after explaining I had been delaying replacing a fence until this got set. They then finally schedule it -- on the same day as the fence. When I explain they problem, their response is not to bump it a day or so, instead they say they will put me to the back of the line. At this point, I'd had it and said no thanks I will go with another contractor. I send a confirming email and then get a long email i feel was quite misleading aimed at trying to justify their conduct -- my response to same and their email below (without personal names). My rebuttal email-- I know you are attempting to justify your conduct but it does not work. I signed your papers in March. I have no email from you on the 12th and there is nothing on my recent calls list on my cellphone. There is a recent calls with XXX number for April 25 when I called to ask about scheduling (again). You are correct that XXX sent me the waiver to which I responded wanting to know the date- which I had not received. Plainly as a courtesy to my neighbor I needed to present a legal waiver with the scheduled date given the disruption in their lives. Your claim that the failure to respond earlier to the waiver under these circumstances is frankly ridiculous. Indeed why does that matter to the scheduled date at all? Your email claims you sought to accommodate my schedule when I spoke with you today and explained again what I said in my email - the fence is already scheduled. What you fail to report in your email is that your accommodation was to put me to the back of the line in June. When I asked why you could not move it up a day you said things were already scheduled. I then reminded you of my first discussion set out below. My perception of your response is you just did not want the hassle of rescheduling another crew. The rest of your note seeks to excuse your conduct with mention of storms and other jobs. First storms last week should not have affected you setting my date by a day or two next week. Again what seems to be really going on is you don't want to trouble yourself to schedule my job. Second you obviously have simply decided my business is not worth the trouble to you to get it scheduled. Or at the most I will, once again, suck it up and wait for when this is most convenient to you. Your email and this rebuttal will be posted with my review. Their email-- I'm sorry that you feel you have received poor customer service from Boutte Tree, Inc., and that we were unable to schedule a time that worked with both of our schedules to remove the tree. We will go ahead and cancel your appointment in our system. I called this morning to try to make the 13th work as a date to remove your tree, perhaps working around your fence installation, or pushing the fence installation to a later date. I have spoken with XXX, who schedules our tree crews, and XXX says that she has tried to reach out to you to schedule an appointment since April 12th, but was unable to reach you. The arborist you spoke with, XXX (copied here), reached out to you on the 21st to get a neighbor waiver to come on to their property to remove the tree. Unfortunately, we never received your response regarding this important component of the tree removal process. With last weekend's storms, a lot of previously scheduled tree work had to be pushed back as our teams scrambled to remove downed houses on roads and houses, further crowding our schedule for the next two weeks, which is why I was unable to offer you a different day when we spoke this morning. read more

Boutte Tree is an outstanding company with a quality work ethic, friendly and knowledgeable service, and fair pricing. We had them come out to prune a large pecan tree and a crepe myrtle. Virginia made scheduling a breeze and Donys (sp?) and his crew came and made quick and quality work. There was a bit of confusion with the order and he thought the crepe myrtle was for their next job. I wasn't bothered a bit, as I knew it would get done and it wasn't an immediate concern, but I was pleasantly surprised when they showed back up at my house after their other job to complete my order before they went home for the evening. They were so nice and did such a beautiful job. I love that it's a family business and they care so much about their clients and the environment. I would strongly recommend the services of Boutte Tree. I've received estimates from other companies and had some work done prior, and Boutte Tree is a standout in our tree filled city!
