What a beautiful gift to the community -- this amazingly well groomed park tucked into the wooded estate with small lakes and trails. The Welcome Center doubles as the main Nature Center where classes and educational activities are hosted. The playground is over the top -- very well designed & executed (obviously well funded by corporate sponsors and supporters) -- the concept fits in nicely with the heavily wooded campus. There are three to four parking areas to accommodate your visit. Located in the heart of Fairview just off Highway 100 about four miles from I-840.

This place is amazing. I started visiting the park about 6 years ago. Many people have found it. Fairview has done an amazing job at it continuous improvements. Love love love. Visit it....you will love it too.

Opportunities abound in this multi-faceted outdoor attraction located just over 30 miles Southwest of Nashville and about 20 miles West of Franklin. Bowie Nature Park's web page has an opening statement that succinctly sets the stage for a fantastic, fun-filled frolic or just a simple, stroll in this sylvan sanctuary. Read the statement and then go to discover over 700 acres of forest, paths, and trails where you can walk alongside a beautiful lake (partially paved), or hike over 17 miles of unpaved trails, or bike, or run-jog, or horseback ride, or just watch while your little ones play in the Treehouse Playground. Wanna learn a lot more? Stop in the informatively decorated Visitor Center and check out the beautiful displays - both static and live. There is no fee for just walking and wandering the trails or using the playground. But a nominal fee of $2 is charged for biking or horseback riding. By the way, some trails are marked for foot traffic only so have no fear of getting trampled or run over. Be sure to keep track of signs and/or use one of the free maps available on line and/or at the Visitor Center. Some areas of the park (picnic pavilions, etc) are available for large group gatherings and for that a nominal fee is charged - check the website for details. A particularly poignant aspect of one the features at Bowie is the trail to "Joann's Classroom" (a multi-purpose facility named in memory of Joann Tiesler). It is frequently used by school teachers when they bring their students for nature classes). The path is a "memorial walkway" with footprints embedded in it and with engraved bricks next to them. "The bricks have been placed there in memory of children who have died while the footprints represent the endearing spirit of the children entering the classroom," is the description given by the park. Another unique event is an annual Memory Tree placed and decorated mid-December when a Christmas tree is placed inside Joann's Outdoor Classroom and the public is invited to come and bring an ornament for someone to be remembered this year in a special way and in a special place. No registration required. Nostalgia and memories aside, this park is a quiet, calming place to get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives and soak up some of the beauty of the Tennessee wilds,

It's a nice place to walk the dog. Plenty of parking and it's so peaceful. There's a child's playground and restrooms.

Absolutely beautiful park, especially in the fall. Wide trails and an excellent example of ecological restoration

The land itself was purchased by the Metro Board of Education in the 1960s. They tried to sell it in 1976, but couldn't find a buyer. However, it was at this same time, in the 1970s and 1980s, that the neighborhood began to really develop. This part of Nashville isn't even on maps until the 1960s. The name of the park derives from the fact that it is, in fact, a grassy knoll. There's a small playground, a beautiful art installation bench commemorating the 2010 flood, and a very depressing looking baseball area. It's definitely not big enough for Little League or anything regulation. But this park exists in 10 acres, approximately 80% of which is just a field of grass, unencumbered by shade. We walked about half a mile around the perimeter, and enjoyed the sunshine. There was little to no paved section, so our walk was in the grass.

In times like these, we could all use some peace. Take some time to take a walk and reconnect with nature. Leave the cell phone at home, chart a course and remember what it was like to walk on green grass -- barefoot, even. It's important. Harpeth Knoll isn't my favorite park of the metro system but it has its charms. First of which (for me) was the drive out to it from the east side of town. Nashville's a pretty green city but the southwestern edge of the metro takes things to a whole 'nother level. HK is a small(er) park in the middle of an old(er) neighborhood and stuck between the past and present. The overgrown baseball diamond and boundary of mature evergreens tell the tale of an older park. The new playground, park benches and art piece seating, however, imply that some new life and attention's been given to this old girl. What I think is the standout feature of the park, though, are the views. The spaces are wide and open and the mature trees dot the perimeter of the space, not the center. That means, in addition to being a perfect set up for kick ball, if you stand in the middle of the park, you can look out at gorgeous green hills (or, 'mountains' as little kids may call them). Harpeth Knoll isn't a destination park. It's a neighborhood/local focal point, perfect for letting the kids burn off some steam, reading a book as the sun massages your shoulders and walking barefoot in the green grass as you look out at new hills to climb. On days like today, any of those are good reasons to visit. It shouldn't, though, take days like today to do so.

It's clean, scenic and mostly flat, great for walking, running or biking! It hugs the Harpeth River (no surprise given the name), so lots of water views. If you live in west Nashville this is a great spot to add to your normal hiking/biking rotation. Also: love the super easy and huge parking situation at the Golf Center.

Why are there so few reviews of this greenway? Probably because there are two unconnected segments…read more One is northwest near I-40 and mostly within Bellevue Park, pinned in the Yelp map. The other is a much longer segment that starts in Edwin Warner Park near Ensworth School and continues along the Harpeth River until a dead end in a field just across train tracks from Bellevue Park and 2,000 feet short of the other segment. I recommend the much longer segment for most uses. The best places to park are within Edwin Warner Park off Highway 100 or in a dedicated parking lot near Edwin Warner Park Picnic Shelters 9 and 11, off Vaughn Road. The trail is long and on a beautiful Saturday, I it to be unexpectedly empty. Most of the trail is flat except a big hill along Morton Mill Road on the north end of the greenway. There is a mix of fields and new growth woods along most of the greenway, which is almost entirely in the Harpeth River's floodplain. Because it sits in the floodplain and is between fields and the river bank, there were many places where the paved path was covered by mud. There are scenic bridges over the Harpeth and a few overlooks, especially north of Highway 100. Some bridges are narrow enough that I had to stop my bike to wait for people to cross. Compared to other greenways in the area, there were few facilities - portable toilets in Edwin Warner Park and water stations at a couple of the trailheads. Benches are scarce except one in the middle and a few with some loose or missing planks on the overlooks near the northern end.
