I came up here on a very humid and hazy day. The visibility was a little low, but we could still see pretty far out. The steps were steep, but not too terrible. At the top of the tower the staircase gets even more windy and narrow. I do feel as though $7 was on the higher end to just climb the stairs and come down. Though, if I had the chance I would come back in the fall, as I imagine the view is spectacular during that season. read more

I've been here during the summer and during the Fall, it's always a beautiful view! I haven't been back in a while but both times the elevator was broken. (And even when it is working there's still steep steps to walk up just fyi). You can buy tickets there and they do a combo with the wildflower preserve too. It's a pretty drive up there as well. Here's another reviewer complaining about the price. I wasn't born yesterday, I understand that all things need upkeep, and upkeep means money. That being said, this tower is far smaller than your average lighthouse; and most lighthouses that are less than 2 hours from this location are either donation based or far cheaper than the $7 they charge here. That probably doesn't seem like too much when you read it, but when you get there and see it in person you'll see why that's steep. In addition I would strongly suggest against going on a rainy day or after some rainfall. The floor was soaking wet and slippery! There are some seriously scary parts of the steps up that you don't want to deal with when soaking wet. Also a note to claustrophobes that there is a very cramped part near the top that everyone has to pass through to get to the roof so bring your anxiety meds. But guess what? The top is pretty cool. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and it's a great thing that this historic building has been preserved. Don't take this review wrong, I'm grateful that the tower is open to the public. I just wish certain things about it were different. read more

Bowman's Hill Tower is built where part of Washington's army is thought to have camped to keep lookout on the land and river below that fateful winter in 1776 before crossing the Delaware. As we looked out at the vast views from the tower, including land dotted with farms and houses, we thought of how our nation was set in motion a couple of centuries ago by those brave men. A couple of whom are thought to be buried on this site, and there is a marker for their graves. The Tower was built as a monument in the 1930's as part of the work programs of the FDR administration during the Depression. Getting to the top required climbing a narrow, turning stairway. In the 1980's an elevator was installed and today one rides it to a landing (with small windows) just below the Tower's top then climbs the narrow stairway a couple of dozen steps to the top. You'll need to buy a ticket to ride the elevator, but it is good for entry into several other of the historic attractions on the Washington Crossing tour. A note: for those with mobility problems, you'll have access as far as the landing level with views from the windows there. Since people with disabilities who use aids can't get to the top, the park policy is not to charge those visitors for the ride ticket. Another note: this Tower is also on the route of the Covered Bridge Tour in Buck's County. We highly recommend driving that tour route to see the twelve remaining bridges that are lovingly maintained and used by vehicles today. Also, the Bowman's Preserve is nearby and like the Tower area it is a wonderful place for bird watching. Both at the visitor center there (which unlike the Tower has running water bathrooms...hooray) and also on the many trails. read more

Pretty! I visited here for the first time yesterday with the boyfriend and almost got lost trying to find it. The GPS also left us in between places so we asked someone on the side of the road and had to pay close attention to every sign on the side. The sign in the front says they close at 4, we got there at 3:30 so I was worried we wouldn't get to walk around. No worries though! When you get to the top, you go in the tower for $6, look around and leave. You can either walk up or take the elevator up but there is still a very narrow few steps you'll need to walk up. Make sure you announce you're going up or down before you start walking because you might get stuck in the middle if other people are going the other way. The guy in the visitor center was kind of rude. He was fine at first but when we went to talk to him after we were done, he was clearly looking at me when I started asking him a question but looked away twice. Then the third time didn't bother looking at me when answering my question. He did recommend some places for us to hike when we asked that though. Oh and there are lots of ladybugs on the tower! read more

So to be clear, this tower was not used by general Washington, it's a monument to him during the revolutionary war as a lookout place to watching the Red coats before the famous crossing of the Delaware. It's 125' tall with a narrow spiral staircase that gets very narrow towards the top so if you're not in at least some kind shape or get dizzy easily the trek to the top may be a real challenge especially since there's only 1 small landing before the top. The views are incredible however. The full 360 view is unmatched, looking out over the river, the rolling hills, you really get a chilly feel of the history of the area, it's really neat. There are walkers all over the area as the hill is a great workout so when you're driving up please pay attention and don't forget your 6$ to take the walk up the tower. read more

Bowman's Hill Tower is a 125-foot-tall stone tower located in beautiful, historic Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County. It was constructed in 1930 to commemorate the men who camped and protected high on these hills. It was also built to help provide men in the area with jobs after The Great Depression. It is 124 stairs each way including a VERY narrow spiral staircase at the top. We have climbed our fair share of lighthouses and such and this was the by far the smallest spiral stair case I've ever seen. Watch out if you're claustrophobic! There is an elevator, but it was broken the day we were visiting and the man in the visitors center we purchased our tickets from said it had been for three weeks prior. Expect that it may be, be pleasantly surprised if it's not. You can drive directly up the winding road to the tower and park up there or you can certainly hike it. I would recommend hiking up the down slope as it seemed a wider allowing for both cars and hikers to travel side by side more safely. There are very clean Porta-Potties by the towers also. The cleanest ones I've ever seen! Smelled good too! Crazy. From the top of the tower you can see views of Lambertville and New Hope, Trenton and Morrisville, as well as a American Revolutionary War cemetery containing the graves of 23 Continental Army soldiers, 22 of them are unknown. It is pretty stunning up there. I imagine more so with foliage. Perhaps we'll bring hubs back in the fall! $6 Admission for ages 5 to adult. Kiddos 4 and under are FREE! Your kiddos may just think this is Raunzel's Tower so let them scream "Let Down Your Hair!" It's a hoot. It's located next to Bowman's Wildlife Preserve where they often do nature walks and story-time with the little ones. If you have kiddos, I say make a day of it and do both! You can buy a pass for $11 instead of just $6 to do so! Fab Philly Mom says: absolutely bring those kiddos! Be prepared to maybe help the really wee ones out on the steps however or perhaps give a call first to check on the elevator status that day! read more

Bowman's Hill Tower sits in Washington Crossing Historic Park at a high point along the Delaware River where a most important part of the American Revolution was played out. Construction was part of the Civilian Conservation Corp that put Americans to work during the Depression, and was completed in 1931. The view from the deck 320 feet above river level is awesome. Especially on a clear fall day, it is possible to see more than 12 miles up and down river, as far as Trenton to the south. The flowing river and changing foliage make for a strong memory. Certainly, Washington would have appreciated having such a tower to use to observe British activities approaching this location. But, it was not just patriots occupying these fields after the Continental Army was defeated by the British in New York, and Washington beat a hasty retreat through New Jersey into Bucks County to save his remaining troops. Not everyone believed in the cause, and many of the locals actually supported England and did its bidding, including spying and behind the lines mayhem. The infamous Moses Doan was in this vicinity as the plan for the Christmas raid on Trenton was put into operation. He is believed to have crossed the Delaware just ahead of his hunters, and rode to Trenton to warn the Hessians of the coming attack. But, for the fact that the German commander Rahl did not bother to listen to Doan, we might still be speaking with British accents. So, Bowman's Tower is worth a visit, and while you are at it, spend a few hours searching the old homes and cemeteries in the Park. From New Hope to Morrisville there is plenty of history to be seen. The ride along Rt. 32 is worth the price of admission alone. read more

Had the day off with the hubby and we decided to go to New Hope. On the way there, I expressed a desire to drive up to Bowman's tower since I had never been in the 6 years that I've lived here. We drove up, it was a pretty sunny day. We parked and walked over to the tower. All I wanted was to see the view! Wow, $6? Just to take an elevator up to see a view?! Yes, I understand it's a historic landmark and must be preserved, but really? $12 for the two of us to go up for 5 minutes, take a couple of photographs, and go? There wasn't even anything else to do up there! Unless you're in the mood to go cross country hiking through the woods, this is a waste of time. You have more to see at Washington Crossing park by the canal and river for FREE!! I was really disappointed I didn't get to see the view from the tower but I refuse to spend that much and wouldn't even let my husband pay for us. $6 for both of us? Sure. But not per person. Suggestion: make it donation based and you'll get more business. Plus it'll look like you're actually reaching out to the community to provide education. That will prompt people to support their historic surroundings! read more

There's an elevator to get almost to the top and then about 20 stairs to the actual top. You can also take stairs the whole way up if you want. The tower itself is NOT dog friendly but you can walk around the bottom with your dogs and there's a couple of benches. So if you come with more than one person you can take turns going up the tower. Visited Washington's Crossing today with my grandkids. Beautiful day for some outdoor historic activity. We decided to extend our day by visiting the Bowman's Hill tower. A landmark built at the site of Washington's men's look out for the British. Whilst an impressive structure it is poorly run by 2 disinterested attendants. They Had no interest in the comings and going's of the guests, no history at all is posted near, in or on the structure or common area. What a great place! This historic tower has a nature preserve and wildflower tours for kids and parents. A great place for bird watching, too. Went in early November on crystal clear day. The elevator was broken but didn't mind climbing the stairs. The last 25 steps were challenging and if you are claustrophobic it could be difficult. If the elevator was working, you'd still have to climb these last 25 challenging steps. There were seniors that needed to stop and rest along the way but the stairs are wide enough 3/4 of the way up to be able to let someone through. The view was gorgeous! Take your time, look around at every angle and get your money's worth. I wish there were signs telling what you can see from up there. Bring a camera and/or binoculars! Im sorry but I used to go there as a kid and it was great but now it sounds like they are sell outs. The stairs to the top were perfectly fine they didn't need an elevator(really healthy you guys) and if running water bathrooms deserves a "hooray" instead of the wildlife itself the quality of the people who go there has gone down. read more
