I was lucky enough to score tickets for one of the final Rocky Horror shows starring Frankie Grande, and what an experience! This was my first time at this theater, and I loved the intimate setting. Every seat felt like a great seat. The set design and scene transitions were fantastic, and the talent on stage was absolutely shining. The audience participation was everything you'd hope for. People were shouting the classic one-liners, plus a few fun modern twists that had everyone laughing. The goodie bag with rice, a newspaper, and cards was such a fun touch! The best part came at the end when every attendee was invited on stage to "do the Time Warp" with the cast. It was organized, energetic, and so much fun! Frankie Grande was incredibly gracious, he met every fan outside afterward for photos and autographs, taking his time with each person. He was warm, sincere, and clearly grateful for everyone who came. I also want to give a huge shout-out to the theater staff. During "The Time Warp," a guest had a medical emergency. The house lights came on immediately, clear instructions were given, and within seconds, two doctors in the audience stepped in to help. The situation was handled with incredible professionalism and compassion. After a brief intermission, the show resumed, and we were later told that the guest was going to be OK, which was such a relief to hear. Thank you to the cast, crew, and staff for creating such a memorable and heartfelt night. I'll never forget it! read more

Went today to see the show, She Loves Me. Very entertaining and laughs. Can't beat the beautiful location of this playhouse, in Bucks County, New Hope, Pa. Surrounded by water and a very nice restaurant attached to the theatre. The restaurant, The Playhouse Deck was conveniently located with the theatre. The food was a preset menu due to the fact that we were 45 people. We had a spring salad, surf and turf and a mousse dessert. Service was excellent and food, in my opinion, was fair. But, the day was sunny and the show was very good. A cute town to visit, with colorful stores and food choices. Great time of year to visit. read more

We saw "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' on May 5th and the Bucks County Playhouse experience was as always, very enjoyable. Area has plenty of restaurants in walking distance, valet parking and a very friendly smaller attentive playhouse. What stood out for us on this performance was more of a directorial issue in my mind. A lead who played Margaret presented her southern accent in such a heavy-handed way through the opening Act (which essentially was a 40-minute - 60 mile an hour paced monologue, while her lead who played Brick - stood and listened. The entire first Act was lost on us as we couldn't dilute the heaviest acted southern accent I've experienced on stage. That coupled with the speed-reading presentation of the script (pacing far too fast, manically fast) made the dialogue undiscernible to us. I understand the play is set in the south, but the Lead who played Margaret should have been directed to go lighter on the accent as it was a THICK drawl through a rapid monologue of entire Act. We made the difficult decision to leave the Theater after the first Act at break, as we understood very little of the dialogue. Maybe 16 words? I'm sure there were lines set to make audience laugh or be given insight, but I do NOT think we were the only one's lost in the heavy-handed accent of Margaret. We felt we couldn't change our outcome and didn't want to listen to dialogue that was undiscernible for another two hours. I can't believe the Director sat through the final rehearsals and understood the dialogue without a script. I'm sure the actress would have skillfully modified the heavy-handed RAPID southern drawl, with some New Hope PA dialect that we all could all relax with and UNDERSTAND. We just couldn't and we wouldn't continue, given the flawed approach toward southern dialect and manic pacing of dialogue. We wondered if things "got better" (accent and manic pacing wise), but we just didn't think it could rebound as much as it NEEDED TO for us to regret leaving. We didn't and I still have Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on my bucket list to see. read more

Our lodge group of 10 senior citizens attended the performance of Starstruck on March 21, 2026. We chose this show based on the description from the playhouse's website. It was described as "a luminous new musical that sparkles with heart". Much to our surprise and disclosed nowhere on the playhouse website, there were two lesbian scenes that very much took us all by surprise. Had we known the hidden agenda of this show, we would have chosen a different show. We totally believe this theme was intentionally left out of the description of this show. There could have been, at the very least, a mature disclosue alert in the website description. Had there been such a disclosure, we would have called the playhouse to ask about the mature content before we purchased the tickets. We wrote a letter of complaint to the playhouse on 3/22 and have received no reply to date. We will not return for any future performances as the playhouse has lost credibility with our group. read more

Came here last Tuesday night to see the play, "Tommy and Me". I believe this was the second time I have visited the theater even though it has been a staple in the New Hope community for decades. Several years ago, some generous donors funneled millions of dollars to restore the place into working condition. The playhouse is very old but has a lot of old-world charm to me and they have an outside bar in the summertime. Now if you have never been to New Hope, well, you really need to come out this way as they have many, many bars and shoppes. Lot of history and great walking, shopping, and dining. Time once again for another brief update: The old lady and I like to meander down to New Hope every so often so see a show here because it brings back a lot of memories from this place's squirrely days 15-20 years ago. Totally different world back then in terms of the types of shows offered, the quality of the sets and the most definitely the ticket prices. Fast forward to today and everything is a million times more professional. We came down for the Saturday night performance of Always...Patsy Cline. Completely not my type of show but it makes the old lady happy, so whatever. The show is only two characters which in this case were Sally Struthers, of All in the Family fame, and Carter Calvert. Struthers narrates the true story of how early in Cline's (played by Calvert) career she runs into a superfan (played by Struthers) at a show in Houston and through a chance encounter spends the night at the fan's house and they remain friends until Cline died a few years later in a plane crash. The story is kept light and fluffy by Struthers who did her best to inject a fair amount of physical comedy and corny puns into it which is good because you could interpret a lot of Cline's life to be less than ideal and the show could be very sad if things were played differently. Calvert pops out in several costume changes and sings 25+ songs during the show. The songs mostly bear little meaning to what's going on in the show but her voice is very impressive as is the six piece live band on stage with them. Just to expound a bit about the band. To me they are actually the stars of the show. Most of the songs fall into the same rhythm, tempo and key but they are well played and they sound fantastic. The two main criticisms about the show would be that during several songs Calvert and Struthers get the crowd to clap along with the song. The problem with that is the band and the clapping is so loud that you can't hear Calvert's vocals. Whether that's an issue with the guy mixing the sound or if she had a sore throat and couldn't go any louder I don't know, but either way she was inaudible at times. The other issue is of course the ticket prices. While I certainly understand that this place has come a long way from the prior owner and his $20 el cheapo shows, $75 a ticket for this one I think is a bit much. While I have no idea how the shows for this run are selling, the one we saw was maybe 3/4 full and we scored 2nd row seats day of without issue. If you go: Don't forget that parking in town especially on weekends is a disaster. Their website does let you purchase valet in advance or you can pay the $20? to park in the theatre's lot if you can get there early enough or you can do the smart thing and park five minutes away in the huge lot at the Union Square shopping area for $4 for the entire night. The seats are comfortable but quarters are definitely on the tighter side. There really are no bad seats in terms of sight lines unless you are maybe in the first two rows on the sides up against the wall. The restrooms were mercifully updated when the theatre reopened but there are still lines before the show and during intermission due to the lack of capacity (i.e. one tiny stall on the men's side with an institutional latrine handling the rest.) read more

I am a many-year subscriber of at BCP and believe "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas" may be the best one presented! The book by Susan Ecker, Harrison David Rivers, and Lloyd Ecker takes place between 1906 - 1913 and concerns Sophie Tucker's beginnings in vaudeville. The cast was wonderful! DeWItt Fleming, Jr (Bojangles) and Ryann Redmond (Sophie) were OUTSTANDING! I don't remember seeing Bojangles perform, but Sammy Davis, Jr. was a favorite, who I was lucky enough to see in person a number of times. I was wondering if Mr. Fleming's style in the performance emulated Sammy, Savion Glover, or the Hines Brothers - or was it a blend of all? In any event, he's talented and very easy on the eyes! Ryann Redmond's voice is big and beautiful, and I enjoyed the others' voices as well. The story was an interesting insight into popular entertainment in the US in the early 1900s. I liked the cast's diversity - especially in body type! This performance provided a subtle reminder that "one size" must not fit all. One particularly fun experience was due to the show's creators' presence in the theater! It was fun watching Harrison David Rivers in his "show" tee shirts he walked around, listening to the audience, and seeing him and the other co-writers receiving congratulations as the audience left the theater (after an enthusiastic standing O) read more

This review is not based on the actual playhouse, but rather their valet parking. I've never been here before, but according to my friend, parking used to be free pre-pandemic. Now they charge $30 for valet parking. Yes, that is expensive but worth it for ease of mind since parking in that neighborhood is very challenging. We saw a play recently, which was good. After, we went outside and proceeded to wait for our car. We were told it would take 10 minutes. Ten minutes passed. Fifteen minutes passed. Thirty minutes passed. Mind you, this is in December and we were freezing waiting outside. After all this, a man approached us and asked if we were waiting for our car. When we told him a resounding YES!, he told us he'll check on it. FORTY-FIVE minutes passed! He never came back to us BTW. I finally complained to one of their employees who could care less and showed it. Finally after nearly an hour, the car arrived, but how do you charge $30, LIE about how long it'll take and take almost an hour to deliver the car?!??!!! I could have parked my car outside on the street for free and walked to it faster than waiting for it. Never again!!!!!!!!! Horrible business! read more

So disappointing! Came here for a few drinks and the bartender was nothing less than terrible. On a Friday night with no one there, we seemed as if we were bothering her by being there. As a restaurant business owner, I can only assume this was her last night behind the bar. Very unprofessional. I experienced my first play here at age 13, when I was just a sullen kid who would rather do anything other than see the production of Footloose I was dragged to. Though the past fourteen years have made my memories from that trip a bit foggy, there are certain things I remember. I remember that I actually enjoyed the performance, which was more than I expected from the trip. However, I also remember the playhouse being small and a bit run down. Back in those days it seemed most of their patrons were kids on field trips, myself included. It was small, it was kitschy, but it was also in need of renovations and revitalization. Back then it was just kind of there, a place for tourists to check off their list. After all these years I finally made my return, this time to see a musical I actually enjoy, Rocky Horror. I know that it's been running at the playhouse for quite some time and had always wanted to catch a show. This production was an interesting take on the source material - the set and costumes look more like they come out of Bioshock or Fallout than it's more glam rock roots. Personally I really liked this year's production and thought the performances were great. Some of the actors had truly incredible vocal range. If you're considering going, I would say you won't be disappointed. But how has the actual playhouse aged, you ask? After the renovations this is finally the venue it was supposed to be. The chairs are all newly upholstered and it seems like the floors have been re-done as well. The beauty of the smaller theater is that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Even if you're way in the back you'll still get a great view of the show. You can also purchase a variety of booze at the newly installed bars, but beware, the drinks are ridiculously expensive. Worse than theme park prices. This is mostly because they come in sealed containers for an additional one time fee, which isn't immediately obvious when you order. That being said, this theater is now actual competition for the theaters in Center City. It's just as nice as many of the theaters in the city I've been to, and it seems they are stepping up their game. I would definitely see another show here, and I'm, hoping they might do some more experimental productions in the future. read more

Beautiful modern theater with comfortable seats and great sound. I was thoroughly impressed. Like a previous review said..."I don't think there is a bad seat in the house." We saw the show "Once" and I loved it. Standing ovation was well deserved. I was impressed with the clever way they changed scenes. All of the Actors and Actresses were excellent. Bathrooms are very clean and also modern. Valet parking for the 2pm show was $20. We parked on the street with parking paid at the kiosk. (75 cents an hour). Make sure you leave time to walk around New Hope. I highly recommend this theater, and the show "Once". In fact I can't wait to go back for more shows. read more

Evidently BCP believes its new "tiered" single ticket pricing scheme will improve more affordable accessibility for patrons with limited means and result in filling more seats. When I was selecting seats for an upcoming show we plan to attend with another couple I was not at all pleased to find that our 2 seats were twice the price of the next 2 seats in the same premium center row. Why should one seat be $32 and the next one be $65? How does this unfair scenario really benefit anyone when the premium "cheap seats" will likely sell out faster and create a genuine inequity and resentment among all patrons? This is not a good system and will result in patrons like myself being turned off by being stuck with a huge price discrepancy. read more

I've seen a bunch of performances here over the years and any has yet to underwhelm. The house itself is beautiful. Exactly what you'd hope it would be complete with comfortable tiered seating, beautiful rustic decor, a bar and not nearly enough bathrooms. Ticket prices are reasonable, especially given the quality of entertainment. Of the shows I've seen here, Rocky Horror was the most memorable. I really wanted to turn this into an annual October event but they haven't had it for the past couple of years and I have to tell you, it's been missed. Look, all theater is great but kitschy, fun, interactive theater takes the experience to an entirely different level. I really hope that someone in management reads this and understands how great this performance can be on an annual basis. No matter, Bucks County Playhouse is a top notch venue and I highly recommend seeing whatever is playing there on your next trip to New Hope. For me, it's SOP as it should be for you. Love it! Excellent playhouse and you don't even need to get on New Jersey Transit to get here! :-) BCPH really has great shows and actors to come through. I most recently saw Guys & Dolls which was such an amazing production. I like how they even had drinks themed for the show we were seeing. I think I had the Adelade's Lament :-) I've heard the complaint from someone that they won't come here because the lack of restrooms. They do have some, but not many. BUT GOOD NEWS! They are expanding and to include restrooms. I don't know when they are planning on having it done but good that it's in the plans. Parking can also be tough, but they do have valet. read more

I was thrilled to see Mama Mia! on 7/20 at the matinee. The cast was absolutely phenomenal. I literally could not have found a moment to improve upon! My dear friend and I went and laughed and smiled through the entire performance. The cast gave us 120%. The young woman that plays Sophie is SUPERB! I loved her voice from the first song through the last. The man that played Bill was absolutely hysterical! the ensemble cast were 'on' every minute. so, the reason I gave 4 stars is for the quality of the performances I have been there for in the past couple of seasons. The theater itself, could definitely pay some closer attention to patrons comfort. Yesterday was a heat warning day in Pa, and it was a scorcher. I was concerned going there that it night be warm in the theater. It was too warm. The seats are extremely close together, and the very last thing you want when you are sandwiched together is to not have adequate cooling. It felt as though the temps fluctuated through the show. I was comfortable as the show began, then, warmed up to the level of perspiration multiple times throughout both halves. For the price Paid per ticket, I want to be comfortable for the entire performance. Any time spent being uncomfortable or overheated detracts from the ability to enjoy the show. Also, I really hope you invest in upgraded seating at some point. At least a couple of inches wider, even if you lose one seat per row. read more

There are no good seats in this entire theater, you can't pay for good seats, because they don't exist. They pack you in like sardines and have no shame about it. Was this theater designed for Oompa Loompas? I'm 6'4" and lost circulation in my legs about 4 times before the first intermission. We left after that and I had to drag my now half lifeless body through the lobby and down the steps on my stomach and wait for the valet. He didn't see me on the ground at first so it was a long wait. While crawling through lobby I did grab a cocktail, which was excellent! I later checked myself into the nearest rehab center so I could slowly learn to use my legs again. It's so ironic because now that I am confined to a wheelchair I am entitled to reserve the only seat in the house WITH leg room, the handicap seat! read more

What a fun production of Momma Mia at the eclectic Bucks County Playhouse rich with history and located in the center of the charmingly quaint town of New Hope. This was last evening August 2, 2029, it was New Hope Celebrates LGBT night. This show just broke the record for the highest-grossing show ever at this theatre. It's easy to see why it is perfectly cast. Every cast member owns their character. The show was executed with perfection. Danielle Lee Greaves brought the role of Rosie to life in a way that brightened the stage with robust humor and warmth that captured my heart. My love of this show and it's music and of Abba, in general, was challenged with the song Take A Chance On Me, I think a high school production years ago that didn't capture the tone on the repetitive chorus section soured my ear for it but tonight Danielle's powerful rendition created my appreciation for it even finding me pleasantly smiling while working out to it at 5 am. Sophie was captured by Sara Masterson with a bubbly flare of naivety and spunk with vocals that knocked your socks off Her cohorts Ali and Lisa played by Taylor Broadard and Sy Chounchaisit had excellent devilish facial expressions able to tell the story even if you didn't have the audio. Michelle Dawson portrayed Donna with a convincing burdensome flare that made me want to get out of my seat run up on stage and give her a hug, then igniting into a fun-loving ball of fire all while reliving her memories of Harry, Bill, and Sam played by Michael Dean Morgan, Peter Saide and Michael Hunsaker who charmed her and the audience each with their individually distinct flair and charisma. A perfectly chiseled Pepper played by Julius Williams flexed the audiences hormones and libido with a fun-loving lust bouncing off his biceps, glutes, and quads. The entire cast had vocals that were piercing and energetic dance moves both resulting in the audience dancing in their seats and by the end in the isles and having a difficult time to not belt out the songs. Music under the direction of Maestro William Shuler was exquisite. Choreography by Shannon Lewis was also remarkable. One number using body paint illuminated by black lights had the audience mesmerized. Theatre staff was friendly hospitable and attentive to every detail. There are just a few performances remaining in this run. This was a perfect evening. Don't wait to get your tickets while you still can! read more

Great shows with great prices. Don't look for broadway show level - you're not going to get that but what you get is better! Small venue with great performers. Great views from all seats and next summer they plan on having an outside veranda overlooking the river for intermission. Just came from their Scrooge. They add a little local humor and updates to a classic. Amazing performance by only four actors !! The Playhouse location is also wonderful. Plenty of restaurants nearby and shopping in Main Street stores during the holiday season can't be beat. read more

BEWARE Selling Tickets Under FALSE PRETENSES! After you purchase tickets, BCP instructs you to "print out tickets" and " bring tickets with you!" After we paid and printed our tickets. We called their office immediately for a refund-it's been two days and we have not heard back. Their recorded message states that they are Closed and also tells you Not to leave messages. They sure have no problems taking your money watch out for False Advertising and Bait and Switch practices. read more

The Bucks County Playhouse is a wonderful place to spend an evening. As mentioned before, parking can be challenging, but if you arrive early and plan ahead, it is not a real problem. I have seen three plays here this summer. I saw the Rocky Horror Show last October, and I am looking forward to seeing it again this year!! They actually had the audience come up on stage and participate in dancing "The Time Warp" with the actors at the end. Deathtrap with Marsha Mason was completely entertaining, and seeing "Misery", the Stephen King story, was quite intense. Alcohol and snacks are available, bars set up inside and out, with lovely lighting and tables, both out front and in back, facing the canal. The whole renovation has made the Playhouse a totally enjoyable experience, and each time I go it is better and better! read more

I was in highschool, my best friend was interning and I came to volunteer as usher and cleaning, folding playbills, etc. I was dealing with a lot of drama at home and the drama here was the perfect escape for me, and saved me in a lot of ways. Big Eric, little Eric, Grey, Louis...I saw Phantom, Godspell, Joseph, Chorus Line, Camelot, Footloose,Jekyll and Hyde, the list goes on, anywhere from 5-15 times each and loved them each and every time! I heard it closed and reopened, and wish it much success. I also wish something could be done about the parking situation!! read more

I have seen 5 shows over the last 2 years. Each one was amazing in a different way. Most recently I enjoyed 42nd street and the incredible talent that came together in the production of Millionaire Quartet. There hasn't been a better performance of Jerry Lee Lewis since... Jerry Lee Lewis. The talent easily rivaled what I have seen in Philadelphia. Everything is fantastic. The playhouse is easy to get to, has plenty of parking, and is located in a small town with great stores and restaurants to make a full weekend out of the experience. The playhouse is newly renovated with a great outside bar area with beautiful scenery. The seating has an intimate feel while still giving plenty of room for your legs, and to dance if the mood strikes you. (Which in my case it often has). I'm already making plans to return in December. read more
