We have moved 6 times in the last 10 years all across the country. This is the first move that happened without any hiccups. I cannot recommend Reggie and his crew highly enough. We hired them for both packing and moving. There was not a single thing that I had asked for that was denied, from moving things off the wall like TVs to replacing them on walls. Other companies were very shy about touching anything that was mounted. He is a man of his word and will honor the quote and even came back to help with a TV mounting that they were not able to do that same day. This move was amazing! As we were downsizing, there wasn't a huge amount of furniture to go to the new place but a lot left over. Every piece of furniture that we didn't want to keep, along with some appliances, tvs, dishes, and tools were all taken as well to be, depending on the condition, resold - for which we were paid for, donated - which we were planning to do and so it saved us a trip or two, or dumped if in poor condition. There is a charge for that but so, so worth! I don't know what we would have done if we had to get rid of it on our own. And the service couldn't have been any better! Reggie (and, I'm so sorry, I've forgotten the other man's name but I'm pretty sure it started with a J) were incredible - super friendly, very professional, moved at a good pace, were very patient and went above and beyond, such as asking for the vacuum to clean up after themselves! I would most definitely use this company again and recommend to everyone I know (and don't know, like those of you reading this). Once we had explained the dates and locations what the move would entail, Reggie was able to quote me a very competitive price and he quickly booked our move with a small deposit up front. On the day of, him and his one assistant were onsite and quick to start packing. The service isn't per hour and rather by the job, so though the team was efficient, we weren't in a time crunch. They moved all of our items with ease and packed them up nicely so that nothing would break during the drive over. The move on the other end of the trip was great as well. Reggie and his assistant worked effectively and moved all our items to the areas that we wanted them placed. I have now used Box and Barter twice and both times I was throughly impressed by the efficiency, quickness and phenomenal customer service! The owner Reggie and his team did NOT come to disappoint! Not only are they polite but they came in and got to work immediately! They didn't break, scratch or ruin a thing as they handled everything with care and my second time I had much more to move than the first time and much heavier items as well! So many of these moving companies are lackadaisical, overpriced and rude but the Box an Barter team are setting the tone for what working with movers should be. I'm giving this business 5 stars for 3 reasons: 1. The efficiency: Reggie and his team were organized, determined, and relentless. As soon as they arrived, and the walkthrough was completed, they got to work moving all of my items. They did not stop moving, planning, and organizing all my items and furniture until the job was complete. Reggie had a full team and was able to complete the job within 4 hours. 2. The quality of the service: Reggie and his team were extremely polite and were always professional. They ensured all items and furniture were in the right locations and were willing to go out of their way to relocate items if needed. They were careful with all of my items and made sure everything was packed in a manner that would minimize any possible damage to my furniture. They were accountable with all of my items and created such a strong level of trust between us during the move. 3. The business model/affordability: Box and Barter is one of the only moving companies I know that is willing to buy furniture you do not want (as long as it is in good condition) and take it off of the final move price. This is an incredible idea and benefits both the customer and the company. I have moved multiple times throughout the past 3 years and have utilized a moving company on every move. The Good: I was a mess. This was my second move in the year, I had moved across country in August and had to quickly schedule a move out of my building Old City due to a mold issue within six months of my arrival in Philly. My last movers were total scammers and I was super stressed at having to go through it again in only six months. I chose these guys because of the reviews, because my last move had put me in so much debt and I was hoping to sell some of my things in trade. I had started a new job, I was sick from mold poisoning, and not at my best. I don't have a car here so Reggie was super generous about having one of his helpers drive me in his car. I had limited time and I was up all night packing. When I ran out of packing material there was still glass wear in my kitchen. The guys could have left my stuff, but the put it in bags and didn't break anything. We also had to stop at a storage unit because not all my stuff would fit in my new apartment. These aren't bad guys, I just don't think I got the same service other reviewers did. The Not So Good: Apparently I was quoted for two people and there were four people, but they were not professional movers. Despite the extra hands it took four people longer to move my belongings than it took two people every other move I have ever done (and I have moved a lot), four times during the pandemic alone. This move took four hours, most folks I have worked with loaded my things in a truck in one hour and unloaded in one. Granted, I am usually completely packed, but I was so tired from being up all night and being sick from my moldy building. So, I will give some grace here. Also, they did have to take my bed and a few other items (planters and stools and two boxes, nothing more) to a storage facility. But my entire move was within a 2 mile radius. It was definitely a newer operation and the guys were not as trained as movers I have had in the past. The Kind of Shady: I was moved from a 600 sq ft one bedroom into a 400 sq ft studio. I was quoted $600 which seemed OK, but I was told that some of my stuff would be taken in trade. I had and the lack of travel time between buildings, storage unit, and that there were elevators in all buildings. I offered it to him because I felt so bad for not being ready for the move. However, it was only my kitchen I hadn't finished and all my furniture was broken down, my rugs were rolled up and wrapped, my boxes were labeled and stacked. I had to move my sofa frame out myself as it couldn't be done by the movers. In hindsight I could have gone back and finished packing up the kitchen myself and rented a car to bring it to my new place. They did not have packing material with them, so there was nothing I could do in the moment other than help them put my left over kitchen items in my grocery bags. Unlike other customers I got no money taken off for any of the items Reggie took and I was encouraged to leave a tip, which after donating usable items like steal shelving, an extension ladder, not to mention left over moving supplies and a very nice bike, seemed pretty uncool. I ended up tipping $75, so $675 for a move with two stops in a 2 mile radius but furniture that didn't fill up 600 sq ft. Everything is getting so expensive now, I don't even know what to think. I don't feel like this was a deal for me. I feel like people are consistently taking advantage and that I should become more suspicious, which just isn't my nature. I appreciated the grace they showed me in a stressful time, but I also don't know that they were the right movers for me at that time. I do have a lot of remorse for giving my bike away, I thought it would show my gratitude, I was hoping it would have made up for a tip, but no, not only was I not offered money for any of the things they agreed to take, they took my bike and still pushed me for a tip when they knew I was financially stressed already. After this and my previous experience with movers, I will likely never hire movers again and instead rent my own truck and hire folks off Task Rabbit to help me. Even if I go across country again, I will drive the truck myself. I would highly recommend any single person do the same. I have lost thousands and thousands of dollars in the last year due to movers. I wouldn't say they were bad, I just did not get the 5 star experience the other folks on here did. read more

He quotes based on the size of your move, not by the hour. In my case, that was a lifesaver because the elevator in the building we were moving into took forever and would have cost me a lot of money with other movers who charge by the hour. I moved on a holiday weekend, and there was no up charge for that.
