They sure aren't smooth at scheduling. I reached out to them with full pick-up drop-off locations and full inventory list on May 13. They quoted me the next day. I then asked how to move forward - no answer for three days. On the third day I asked again if someone could please reach out and tell me the next steps and the reply, the next day was that they wanted to know my destination and inventory (ummmm you were given that originally). I again gave the destination pickup/drop off and full inventory list. That was three days ago, no response. Honestly, how can you be a reputable company when you don't respond to client requests? If the job was something they didn't/couldn't do, the least they could do is tell you instead of ignoring you. If this is how they respond in the beginning then how are they going to be with managing your move? Danger, danger Will Robinson. read more

I used Smooth Moving Pros to offload a small truck in 2017 and it went fine. Just emailed them for a quote on a new move. Started out OK... Nate sent me numbers and said everything had to be packed up and ready to go for his team. I asked if they could do one thing - wrap my furniture in blankets - and he answered "no, it's our policy not to wrap the furniture with pads prior to putting them in the truck, as it makes it very difficult to carry the items. I apologize that we won't be able to meet your specific needs and we will not be able to move you." I emailed him back, said I'd be OK with that (even though it wasn't ideal for me), and I haven't heard back. This was 4 days ago. Being a business owner myself, this is not how you treat a repeat customer. Based on this poor experience I would not recommend Smooth Moving Pros. read more

Unfortunately, I will never have an opportunity to rate their work but I can rate their customer service, which is just as important. I contacted SMP via their contact form and was in conversations with their owner, Nate, regarding a move, only to have the rug pulled out from under me when he very carelessly stated that they were "now all booked up" after JUST confirming availability for TWO separate dates less than 12 hours earlier. At no point did Nate ever indicate dates were filling up rapidly, etc. I am now left with little to no options left to move my family out of our home on a very tight deadline. What kind of customer service is that?! Bottom line: MOVERS BEWARE and take your business elsewhere; this company doesn't deserve your time and energy, especially if you need reliable information to make decisions regarding your move. read more

The TL;DR version: SMP is simply AMAZING! I never imagined my long-distance move could be this quick, smooth, and stress-free!! The detailed version: I was super stressed out about the move before booking: I had a lot on my plate, and reading about scary moving experiences online didn't help at all. So I did my homework carefully: (a) Check Yelp: get a shortlist of movers with good reviews (I read the negative reviews on purpose and see whether what was mentioned was really a problem with the movers, or just things beyond anyone's control, or sheer ranting...). (b) Check each and every candidate mover in the FMCSA database (https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/select-mover): see if they are legit and have zero customer complaints (NOT all of those on my shortlist was authorized to do the job - scary!) (c) Getting a quote: I submitted quote requests for three finalists. One of them took almost a week to get back to me. The other asked so many questions online that I almost gave up filling out the form. SMP's online form was very brief - that's just another benefit of flat-rate prices. For my move from Philly to Chapel Hill, SMP also has the best listing price (the flat-rate one listed on their website), AND the peace of mind knowing there's not going to be any hidden fees is invaluable, too! So that's how I decided to try to work with SMP. (***I "try" because I am well aware of the fact that (a) this is peak moving season and (b) my intended move date was only TWO WEEKS away!) I communicated with Nate via email throughout the entire process - the responses were always nice and clear, and definitely as prompt as one could expect from an owner of a busy moving company at this time of the year (and often really swift by any other standards)! Then comes the loading day! We scheduled for 12:30 pm, and Nate and his crew showed up 20 minutes early with a magnificent truck. The guys were super professional, and I was left with an empty studio within 25 minutes!!! (Tip: having everything packed up and ready to go beforehand really helps. Yes, packing is painful and chaotic, but that gives one all the more reason NOT to do that with people waiting...) The original plan was to load on the afternoon of Day 1, the unload on the morning of Day 3. But Nate told me after loading whether they might be able to unload early on Day 2 because the preceding moving project seems nice and small. Of course I happily accepted - and they did arrive at 7pm on Day 2!! This time it's just Nate and Tony, but they still had the job done in UNDER AN HOUR!!! (And they accept Venmo as a form of payment - so convenient!) I'm 90% done with unpacking and everything (including my guitar, my two giant and heavy boxes of electronics, and that cheap little shoe shelf that I carelessly half-wrapped in a padded plastic bag) is in perfect condition! Nate and Tony were also extra careful when placing boxes on the floor at my brand new apartment. If someone told me I could be this happy and thrilled after a long-distance move on a hot and humid summer day, I would never believed him/her. But Nate and his team at SMP truly lived up to their name and offered a SMOOTH and PROFESSIONAL moving experience! I would highly recommend them to everyone I know! read more

So many great things to say about SMP. I'll start this story from the beginning. I was in a bit of a pickle. I needed movers on less than a week's notice (I didn't get confirmation that my apartment application was approved until 6 days before my move in date) to move from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. The other thing was that Pittsburgh doesn't allow unloading of any kind to occur during rush hour. So many stipulations! But Nate and his team made it work! Nate's team arrived with smiles on a balmy morning ready to go. Each guy introduced themselves and couldn't have been more enthusiastic about the move. They moved everything out of my apartment in Philadelphia and in to my new place in Pittsburgh quickly and treated my stuff delicately. I've heard many stories about people moving and finding their stuff broken. Everything I brought with me is in the same condition I packed it in. Kurt and Tony were the guys in charge of unloading in Pittsburgh and had the task of helping me figure out how to fit my huge bedroom set in to a smaller bedroom. They were super patient and willing to try out a few different things to see how everything would fit. They were also somehow still upbeat despite a 6 hour drive in this heat. In the end I'm happy with how my furniture fit in the new place. Finally, of all the movers I contacted, SMP was the most reasonably priced. Cherry on top! Okay. I LOVE these guys. They are absolutely professional, friendly, and reliable. I was scramming to find a moving company for my move from Philly to DC and called every place around the area. Every company wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for the long distance move even though I did not have much to move with me. This company was the only moving company I trusted after talking to many. Nate, the owner of Smooth Moving Pros, was very prompt with answering any questions I had and even offered me a discount for my move since I did not have much stuff! They came on time and even brought along coverings for all my mattresses, mirrors, and paintings which they took the time to put on for me. Needless to say, this has been the quickest and most efficient move ever! Everything was packed into the van in less than an hour, they drove to DC quickly, and unloaded everything within less than an hour. These guys get a ton of repeat customers. I am one of them. I used them to move from Philly to Delaware in 2015 and then again today to move from Delaware to Virginia. They are super friendly and professional - like everyone already said. But I'm a big guy and I left weights. These guys put me to shame. They are ridiculously fast when stripping your apartment of all its wares. For instance - I have a 2br with a legit gym made of 700 lbs of free weights. These maniacs cleared my apt in about 45 mins. I packed for 3 days and they cleared it in 45 mins. The guys cracked jokes and had terrific attitudes even after a 2 hour drive on empty stomachs. They had my new place set up in about an hour. They were careful, honest, hard working guys. I would use them to move from one floor to another because you know it will always be a very pleasant experience. Ten stars! read more

I used SMP a few weeks ago when I relocated from Philly to Boston, and I was so impressed by Nate and his team! They charge flat rate pricing, which I loved because I knew there wouldn't be any hidden or last-minute costs, and they were on time, professional and friendly at both ends of the trip. They also did the move in one day, which was impressive considering I moved Labor Day weekend and the Philly/Boston trip is brutal on a good day (i.e. when there isn't traffic up and down the east coast). I used these folks for my move from Center City, Philadelphia to Silver Spring, MD. It was a wonderful experience and the least stressful part of my move. I was given an accurate, flat-rate quote, the movers showed up on time and I was even called and notified when they were going to be a little late the morning of the move (like 10 minutes) because of traffic. After exchanging emails and sending a detailed inventory to receive a quote for a 560-mile move, there was no further communication. However, I do know that they were courteous, friendly and professional and they got the job done better than I would have for a very reasonable price. We requested a quote for a labor-only move through email, and almost immediately we received a complete and clear response from Nate. It is super refreshing to get prompt responses over email that actually answer the questions that you ask (trust me, it was like pulling teeth with other companies, and even then I wasn't convinced I was getting accurate information). The quote we received was very reasonable (some other companies wanted to charge for more than just labor despite the move being in the same building). I can't say I've ever written a Yelp review, but Nate and his team at Smooth Moving Pros did an amazing job with my move. I was moving out of state and had never used a moving service before. I also needed to find a moving service to trust to move my items out of my storage unit (independently, without me there!) and drive my stuff to another state, before even meeting the movers. After much research, I found Smooth Moving Pros to have not only provided the best, no nonsense quote, but to also be the most friendly company to interact with. I really enjoyed working with a small business, not some large moving company where I was just another move in their book. Nate was incredibly responsive, attentive and professional as we discussed the logistics of the move over email and over the phone on multiple occasions. Nate and his team successfully moved everything out of my storage unit with no issues (in the pouring rain!) and arrive perfectly on time for unloading at my new apartment. We hired Nate and his amazing crew for a move from our very full one bedroom apartment + storage unit in Philadelphia to Michigan. Nate made everything very easy from the start of the process - quick response for a quote, reasonable prices (price compared to the national moving companies I looked at), very fast to respond to any questions or concerns we had, and he even came out on a Saturday to do a walk through to look at our many large and irregular shaped items. Nate was in close contact with us as the move approached to make sure we didn't have any additional questions or concerns prior to the move. The day of the move itself, we were amazed. He showed up right on time with at least 7-10 crew members, all dressed in a uniform and very courteous and careful with our items. The team leaders introduced themselves right away and then they got to work loading the van. There was not a moment wasted between the time they showed up and the time the van pulled away. The driver from Nate's team showed up at our house in Michigan right on time and got to work unloading everything right away. All of our items were received in perfect shape with the exception of a rickety old table that the leg fell off of - not the movers' faults at all (the leg had been dangling on by a thread all along)- but they were very forthright to point our any damage that had possibly occurred and it was obvious that Nate's team inspected every item as it came off the truck to make sure it was OK. We were VERY HAPPY with how the move went, how Nate managed his team, the level of professionalism, and the care that was taken with our items. I could not have asked for a better experience. I cannot rate Smooth Moving Pros more highly. I wish there were a sixth star. read more
