When it came time to pick out my glasses I was a little overwhelmed but the woman there was amazing at helping me pick out the perfect pair. I ended up getting 3. I have always had a wonderful experience with him & his team at that location. I called the 280 store trying to order new contacts & to get a sample pair. I was told he's at the Galleria location on Saturdays, so I went the following Saturday. I was then told that he wasn't there, & I should come back the next Saturday. I came back the NEXT Saturday, he wasn't there & they told me I would have to contact his new office. Mind you, I was going out of town that weekend & expecting to get new contacts this day. I get the Tuscaloosa store information, & they tell me to call on Tuesday when Dr.Cook will be there. I call on Tuesday, the desk woman tells me they don't have my information, but says Dr.Cook will email me my prescription. I let it be known that I have been trying to get this done for weeks & I am going out of town that Thursday. I even offered to drive from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa if it meant I could get some contacts that day (Tuesday). I was told that couldn't happen. After I express NICELY I need these sample contacts TODAY after jumping from place to place for WEEKS, the front desk woman hangs up on me. I did not once raise my voice or have a nasty tone, all I did was express that this has been extremely difficult & I would like for this to be solved today. I have absolutely no problems with Dr.Cook himself & have always had a great experience, none of this review is directed at him or the great quality of work he does. As a person who's been in customer service for over 8 years, when someone representing a business hangs up a phone on a customer for no reason other than not wanting to fix an obvious mistake, they should not be in customer service. Anyway, I was told Wednesday my prescription would be sent to the Galleria location, it wasn't. After ALL THIS, on THURSDAY, the day I leave for my trip, I get a call saying the Galleria has received my prescription, but it's expired (by a few months) & I would have to get another eye exam before getting contacts. I don't think I've ever experienced such horrible misinformation in my life. Weeks of trying to simply order contacts for NOTHING. Don't waste your time here, they have zero clue what they are doing. I'm leaving this review for both the Tuscaloosa & Galleria location, because they really joined forces to make sure that I had the worst experience possible.

I had the unfortunate experience of meeting Dr Gretchen Langkawel at Homeless Connect this past Saturday because I also volunteered with them. Because of the room set up we did not necessarily know when our guest were done with their exam, and instead of simply speaking to us in a normal calm manner and letting us know our guest was done we were yelled at and berated for talking as if we're not there to talk with and get to know our guests and share our stories with each other. While obviously nothing can really be done I would like for Dr Langkawel to think about what come out of her mouth before she's just starts yelling at someone. This is not high school we are all grown and personally I don't yell at a group full of strangers trying to get to know one another to "stop talking" it's a bit rude.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses…read more Before scheduling my appointment, I specifically called to verify my insurance because another provider had already told me I was out of network. The representative assured me I was in network and even confirmed my copay would only be $10. Based on that information, I scheduled an appointment two weeks out. When I finally arrived, I was told by the store associates that I don't have insurance at all. No explanation, no accountability--just a complete contradiction of what I had already been told. To make matters worse, management handed me a piece of paper and told me to call an automated system myself to verify benefits. I did exactly that, but when the system couldn't directly communicate with the associate, they refused to help any further. So essentially, I was stuck in the middle doing their job for them--and still got nowhere. This place clearly has major communication issues and lacks even basic customer service. Verifying insurance should not be this difficult, and customers shouldn't be left to figure it out on their own after being given incorrect information. Total waste of time. I would not recommend.
