Candice arranged for my son to be embalmed in Albuquerque, then personally drove all the way there, picked him up, and brought him home. She gave us the chance to have a short, meaningful viewing with him before cremation. She handled every single detail, start to finish, with compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. What amazed me even more is that she charged us the same amount as if we had done everything in Albuquerque -- no extra fees, no surprises, just kindness. My wife was very concerned about these being mailed, but the funeral home "assured" us the package would be carefully tracked and require a signature when it reached us. We found the cremains tossed on our front porch with no signature required. Research through the post office revealed that Lighthouse had "waived" the requirement for a signature -- precisely the opposite of what they promised. If I ever had an opportunity to do business with a funeral home in Amarillo, it would not be Lighthouse. Very poor service!

It's a memory that's lasted over 70 years. Also, we suspect that my grandfather may have visited the cemetery on his last day, to revisit memories of my grandmother and deceased friends. He disappeared in a three-day blizzard. His car was found near the cemetery. We didn't realize that he was still visiting the cemetery, long after the children grew up and left Amarillo. I'm so sorry for families who share their negative reports here. I hope they are anomalous and that the cemetery is respectfully maintained. Death is daunting. Review a Funeral Home for my 400th review? Well, why not? This was definitely our "hour of need"…read moreand this place came through for my family. It was actually the third time in 4 years their services have been needed and because my sister-in-law was very satisfied with their service after her mother passed away, she turned to them again when her little brother died unexpectedly a year ago. On January 25th my big brother had a massive heart attack, totally unexpected since he had no previous heart conditions. They made it to the hospital but in spite of heroic efforts by the doctors, they were unable to save him. He was only 65. Our family is heartbroken to lose him. Again, Rector Funeral Home was contacted to assist in planning the services. When I got to town I went there for a viewing. No one else was there at the time I went . When I broke down, it was the receptionist who put her arms around me and comforted me, almost as if she was family. I really appreciated that. My brother had so many family, friends and acquaintances and was so well-thought of that they predicted more people would attend services than their chapel could hold. The director stepped forward and offered the church he attends for the services. They were right, the church was full. It was very heartwarming to see the outpouring of affection from all those who knew my brother and were sorry to lose him. The church ladies even prepared a lovely lunch for about 50 of the family and close friends following the services. We all hope we won't lose the ones we love. But we will, eventually, and it's comforting to know there is a place like this who will help you take care of your needs and provide you with as meaningful an experience as possible.
