They did what they could and took bloodwork that would be in the next day, but later that same day he passed on his own, which obviously was very hard on us. When Dr Seddon called the next day with the bloodwork, he explained it was very indicative that he more than likely had a tumor on his pancreas because of how low his blood sugar was and there was no way to cure that. He also said he was quite positive that he wasn't suffering during this time at all, which meant a lot! The cremation was handled so amazingly and even included a paw print. I am not typically a fan of conventional vets, but Dr Seddon is a top-notch, compassionate, exceptional conventional vet that has always been a go between for my 3 chihuahuas when something urgent comes up and I can't make it out to the holistic vet (Healing Paws). He has worked on Nico and Roxie, my other two dogs several times for issues and been super helpful! His whole staff is top-notch and compassionate! I truly love Bowie Towne Vet and am so appreciative I have such an outstanding vet practice so close to home. I wrote all of this with tears over the loss of our sweet little boy, but also mixed with tears of joy of appreciation for having such an amazing vet location that was so supportive and helpful during this hard time.

There was one afternoon I went when it was crowded and I had to wait a while to get taken care of -- never doing that again, haha, but I suspected it beforehand. It just proved my point. My sweet spot is the mornings -- no later than 10 on weekdays if my schedule allows. I used to strictly make appointments on the phone, but now it can be done through their website / text message system. It's been a seamless system thus far. In person, the staff are always professional and very transparent with what they're doing (thankfully it's been nothing serious for my cats). Usually I get my cats back and within 5-10 minutes the staff are ready for me to check out. I do wish it was instant, as my cats are itching to return home once they're back in my hands, but I understand the process. I'm not sure when they added it, but they have a water / coffee station in there, and I really appreciate that. There's always a movie or two on the TV in there, and I've always admired how dogs and cats go on opposite sides. I haven't seen the wandering cat in a while... that means she was adopted I hope! APAW is going to continue being my go-to spot for all of my pet needs, and I hope they continue to do well.

Dear APAWs Veterinary Hospital Management,…read more I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the care my dog Remy received at your facility under the care of Dr. Johnson. Remy was not just a pet; he was my companion and part of my family for nearly sixteen years. I had him since he was just 13 weeks old, and he was truly my son. Because of this, I trusted your hospital to provide compassionate and honest medical guidance during what ultimately became the final days of his life. During Remy's first visit, I brought him in due to noticeable behavioral changes, weakness, and concerns that something serious might be wrong. I specifically asked Dr. Johnson whether Remy might be nearing the end of his life based on his symptoms. I was told that he appeared to be okay, that he likely had joint issues or a possible infection, and that further diagnostics such as blood work or imaging could be considered later. At that time, no blood work was performed and the examination consisted only of a basic physical assessment. Each visit cost $119. Remy's condition continued to decline. After another episode in which he collapsed, I contacted the office again and was advised to bring him back. During this second visit blood work was finally performed, and I was told that Remy was anemic and had a low body temperature. I also informed Dr. Johnson that his breathing had changed and that he was not eating. Despite my repeated questions asking directly whether Remy was dying and my request that he not suffer unnecessarily, my concerns were not clearly addressed. Instead, I was told that additional diagnostics such as X-rays and an ultrasound would be needed to determine what was really going on. I was quoted approximately $1,000 for X-rays and $700 for an ultrasound. I explained that given Remy's age, I needed honest guidance about his prognosis before moving forward with costly procedures. I asked what his realistic life expectancy might be and whether these tests would meaningfully change the outcome. Unfortunately, I did not receive a clear answer. Throughout these visits I repeatedly requested pain management to ensure Remy would not suffer if he was indeed nearing the end of his life. Pain medication was not initially provided and I was told to continue following up. Eventually a five-day course of narcotic medication was prescribed which appeared to help him tolerate the pain temporarily, but his condition continued to decline. Remy ultimately passed away just hours before my birthday. I was not physically present at the moment he passed because I was on my way there when a sudden hailstorm made it impossible for me to arrive in time. My aunt was with him and called to tell me she believed he would not make it until I arrived. I was able to FaceTime him and speak to him. I told him that if he was tired, it was okay to rest, and that we had sixteen beautiful years together and that he would never be replaced. His eyes moved while I was speaking, and he passed away approximately thirty minutes later. I will always hope that he found comfort in hearing my voice. After Remy passed away, I contacted the hospital to inform staff and asked whether I could bring his body in or if someone would retrieve him. I was told that my aunt could drop him off and that someone would meet her outside to receive him, which unfortunately did not happen. When I later returned to pick up Remy's ashes approximately one week later, I requested to speak with Dr. Johnson but was told she had already left for the day following surgery. Later that same day I received a call from Dr. Johnson from the office phone. During that call she stated that she had just learned that Remy had passed away and that I had asked for her. This explanation was confusing, as the hospital had already been notified when his body was brought in. During that call she offered a brief apology and thanked me for being Remy's "nurse" in his final moments. I corrected her and explained that I was not his nurse, but his mother. Based on my experience, I was left with the troubling impression that the approach to Remy's care may have prioritized additional costly procedures rather than providing clear guidance about his condition and quality of life. After Remy passed, I reviewed other public reviews online and noticed several other pet owners describing similar experiences, which raised further concern for me. In my case, it felt as though continued follow-up visits and expensive diagnostic procedures were emphasized while my repeated questions about Remy's prognosis and comfort were not directly addressed. It was only after I clearly stated that I could not proceed with the additional $1,700 in diagnostic costs that pain medication was prescribed. As a grieving pet owner, this left me feeling that my vulnerability and love for my pet may have been taken advantage of during an already heartbreaking time. When families bring their pets in during serious illness, th

Bully breed & anxious dog owners -- PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING…read more I brought my 11-year-old pit bull to this hospital today for an appointment because he has a large bump near his anus that needs to be evaluated. Anyone who owns a bully breed knows that vet visits can already be stressful, and my dog is particularly anxious in veterinary environments. I made the staff aware of this. My appointment was scheduled for 3:30 PM, and I arrived at 3:15 PM. A staff member escorted us into a separate exam/patient room because my dog is very anxious and can be reactive around other people and animals. The lady brought us 2 water bottles because it's a very hot day. What happened afterward was extremely frustrating. My dog and I sat there for approximately 45 minutes with nobody checking on us. My dog was crying and whining because he was scared and anxious, and not one person came in to check on him, update me, or tell me there was a delay. There was still no communication about when we would actually be seen. Because my dog was becoming increasingly anxious, I went to the receptionist and asked if I could walk him outside. I was told yes. I left my phone in the car and took my dog for a walk. When I came back, I discovered that I had two missed calls and a voicemail saying they were calling because I was a "no-show" and asking if I wanted to reschedule. A NO-SHOW?! I WAS THERE. My dog was there. Your staff escorted us to a room. We waited for approximately 45 minutes. I specifically asked your receptionist for permission to walk my dog. Instead of someone simply coming to the room and saying, "We're running behind, are you still able to wait?" or letting me know the veterinarian was delayed, I was apparently marked as a no-show while I was literally following the instructions given to me by your own staff. For owners of bully breeds, reactive dogs, or dogs who already struggle with anxiety, please think twice before bringing your dog here. These dogs require patience, communication, and proper handling. Putting an already anxious dog in an unfamiliar environment for nearly an hour with no updates and then have the AUDACITY to call me saying I was a NO SHOW????? I ultimately left because I was not going to continue putting my senior dog through unnecessary stress after the way this appointment was handled. My dog deserved better, and so did I. I strongly recommend bully-breed parents and anyone with an anxious or reactive dog look elsewhere for veterinary care. There are other veterinary hospitals that understand that these dogs need a little more patience and communication.

I wish I would have caught it sooner for me to bypass some unneeded emotional damage. Once I finally did pick up on the signs I immediately looked for a nearby vet. But on a Sunday, there aren't many open. My choices were two emergency vets that were equal distances away. As you can see, I chose this one. On my way here, I was all in my emotions and almost bypassed the building. Luckily for me, I caught it at the last minute and whipped around. When I went in there was no hesitation about being seen. They are a digital establishment. Scan the QR code, fill in your information, and wait to be seen. I sat in the waiting room for what felt like an eternity, but we all feel that way in a time of need. Finally a vet tech came to see me and ask what was going on. I started to talk and only broke down instead. I was escorted in a room and they took my cat for a set of vitals. I was at that point where I thought she was attempting to cross that rainbow bridge. Instead, after the vitals and some talking to the vet, it was decided as to what was going on. I also want to thank them for being upfront with information. I was informed that they already know what it is and a course of treatment or I could spend a lot more money to do tests and come to the same conclusion. After a good cry I came to my senses and went with their suggested treatment. This was an emotionally exhausting day. Made a bit better by a good team at this place. My cat, upon returning home, was very lethargic because of the antibiotic and pain medication given. She was out of sorts for a bit, but back to normal within the timeframe quoted by this team.

The staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty were amazing from the moment we walked in. They were extremely thorough while showing such care and concern for Duke. They explained what was happening, were transparent about the cost, and gave an honest assessment of the prognosis for our baby. Dr. S explained our options and gave us time to process everything. She answered all our questions and reassured us that there was no right or wrong way to go. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Duke go and she supported it, agreeing it was the kindest choice given his age, prognosis, and his current state. When I asked her what she would do for her own fur baby given the circumstances, Dr. S was transparent and told us she would do the same. That gave us a small bit of comfort that we weren't rushing into it prematurely. Dr. S gave us referrals to a few vets who could come to our home to help us with Duke's final care. We chose Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, who were equally wonderful during such a horrible time. We appreciate all of the staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. There were small things that I appreciated... when they brought our baby to us, they put down a plush blanket so he could be comfortable and not laying directly on the floor. Also, right before we left, one of the nurses even came in to say goodbye to Duke and tell him he was a sweet boy. She loved on him and that small gesture will always stick with me. I thank everyone for showing such love and support during one of the most difficult times in my family's life. I would absolutely recommend Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty to anyone needing care for their fur baby.

After being a long-time customer, I now understand that the waiting room full of people meant he was willing to toss a wrench into his entire morning when a lot of vets would have turned me away. The way he handled that emergency and the priority he put on doing everything in his power to save my cat is what prompted me to begin bringing all of my pets here. This doc actually cares! Doctors here are thorough, take time with each animal, explain all the options and don't pressure you to choose more or less expensive options for their care. They advocate for what is best for the animal. I appreciate that Dr. Carman always takes whatever time it takes during each visit to ensure that I know all of my options so I can make informed decisions. I have also seen Doctor Stancliff and her gentle nature, thorough approach and the way she put my very stressed out cat at ease made me known that I was in good hands no matter which vet we saw. I also want to mention that the front office staff are the unsung heroes in this busy practice. They are absolutely fantastic! They are knowledgeable, patient and genuinely love each pet that comes into the office. They will go out of their way to answer questions and make me feel like my pets are part of their families. This is a very busy appointment-based practice so they can't work miracles but they really do come close. The curbside care necessitated by Covid flipped everything upside down for all of us but I appreciated getting pictures of my pet during their examination and I always feel involved in their care even though I am not across the exam table from the doctor. This is an excellent practice where my cats have always received excellent care. I highly recommend Lynn Animal Hospital.

I arrived just a few minutes after closing, fully understanding that the hospital had officially closed. What was incredibly disappointing was that I stood outside knocking on the door for approximately five minutes while multiple staff members walked past the front windows. Several employees looked directly at me, made eye contact, and continued walking without acknowledging me or even coming to the door. I wasn't expecting anyone to reopen the hospital or stay late to see patients. I simply hoped that someone would take 30 seconds to ask if everything was okay or point me toward an emergency clinic or another resource. Instead, I was completely ignored. As a physician, I can't imagine seeing someone visibly asking for help just minutes after closing and not even acknowledging their presence. Even if the answer is "We're closed," basic compassion and professionalism go a long way. This experience left me deeply disappointed. I hope the practice reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because feeling completely ignored when seeking urgent help is not what anyone expects from a healthcare profession.
