Thieves. Glad they are finally running out of town. As a pre-teen in the 70's I often visited this store with my parents. In particular they had advertised in their window hats that would be embossed with your name. My parents eagerly purchased this item. When we came to pick up this merchandise, it was embossed alright with black magic marker that was done by the punks behind the counter by hand. They refused a refund to my parents for this rip-off. For the next 50 years we never stepped foot in this den of thieves and never failed to mention the caliber of the owner. They made their money for decades but how honestly - who cares. Staten Island's legendary "Bozo's Army Navy" has been my go to shop since I moved to New York in 1983. By the time I discovered Bozo's they had already been supplying Staten Islanders with an assortment of work clothes for a decade. Located in the New Dorp section of the Island, Bozo's sells several brands I swear by: Red Wing Shoes; Carthartt jackets, hats and gloves; Levis jeans, and; an assortment of military surplus items including Propper brand "ripstop" jackets. The last item is very useful for photojournalists - rugged but comfortable fabric and big pockets make life easier. Speaking of making life easier, it's a pleasure to go a store that has a good inventory of things like Carhartt jackets - offering a choice of colours and sizes. Bozo's is not large but it is laid out intelligently making it easy to find things. Salespeople are available to help but will allow browsing. No one follows you around as you search for the right item or fit. Whenever I need a new Carthartt coat or raincoat or a new pair of Red Wing Shoes there is only one place I go. Bozo's has a great selection of Carhartt and an entire wall of Red Wings on display. A word about Red Wing - some of the shoes are "Made in USA" (of US made materials), some are "Made in USA with Imported Materials" and some are "Assembled in the USA with Imported Components", i.e. made in China, Korea or Vietnam. All of their offerings are quality but if supporting American workers is a factor in your decision check the tags on the shoe before making a purchase. What's the bottom line? Not always just the bottom line. Bozo's is slightly pricier on some items than a store in Manhattan or purchasing on Amazon. However, it's not only important to support local small businesses, it's practical. Trying on an article of clothing, seeing all available options and being able to exchange or return an item quickly and easily are important factors that this consumer considers when making a purchase. And that's why I recommend Bozo's. That's why, as a Staten Islander, I shop at Bozo's. read more

Bozo's has been a neighborhood staple for my entire life. Not sure why they call themselves "Army and Navy"... It's really a clothing store for the working class man. They do not sell any ARMY or NAVY merchandise, let alone any tactical gear. Some issues rub me the wrong way. Their staff follows you around to the point where it is uncomfortable. Who would steal a $14 thermal any way? Also, they close their doors early. Yesterday, I needed some work boots. On Sundays, they close at 5:00... I stopped by at 4:40, and the gate was down. Who closes 20 minutes early? All in all a decent place if you need something instantly... They do have a solid collection of work boots... Otherwise find the same items on Amazon for a few dollars cheaper and avoid the headaches. read more

The person behind the counter got an attitude with me when I asked about exchanging an item if needed. Also wanted a boot in a different color and said "the company has a shortage of workers and don't make it currently" meanwhile I found the same boot I wanted online. This stores only purpose is to try Thorogood boots and get your size so you can order it online. Sad because I wanted to support a small business but I refuse to shop here again. read more

Terrible store. Went in looking to buy a couple work shirts, tried a couple on but was being intensely stared at the whole time by the owner. Felt extremely uncomfortable so I left and as I was walking out the owner said "man you're a f**** joke" Update: It was an older man. I assumed it was the owner, because many other reviewers wrote things about the store owner. If the worker did not use the f word I'm truly sorry, I was so caught off guard by his comment I might have recalled that detail inaccurately, but I would have to watch the tape again. In fact I would like to come in and watch the video with you to clear that up. However, The man who was working that day did in fact say man you are a joke as I was walking out of your store. The only interaction I had with him until that point was when I asked him if I could try on a few shirts. Did not know what I did that warranted the intense staring. The reason I kept coming out of the fitting room was because the mirror was outside of the fitting room. Every shirt I tried on was put back on the rack properly. If you really did watch the tapes, you would have seen that, as well as heard him calling me a joke and also calling me weird. This is my first review on yelp because I've never had such blatant disrespect from any worker before. The fact that you would go to the length to write a false response to my review shows what kind of person you are and what kind of business you are running. I'm absolutely appalled. New store bad as the old store - over priced clothes and shoes, army navy? My ass! Not one piece of such gear available, safe a black watch cap. The staff here makes people, or at least me, feel so uncomfortable. They hawk you as soon as you enter, it's ridiculous. Owner is a festering DB, why anyone would shop here is beside me. read more

Love this store. Always a great selection of boots and jackets for work. Their clearance section has some good finds and buys. Always very helpful staff and very convenient. I live in the neighborhood and have been buying all my work clothing from here for the last 15 years. read more

Quite awkward experience here today. Been going here for years. Walked in and the owner just looked at us (my wife and i) without even a Hello or acknowledgement that we just walked into your store. At first I wasn't even sure he was the owner or just another customer. I was looking for a jacket and walked towards the back was greeted by a young worker who was friendly and helpful. I found a jacket and asked the worker if he had another. He had to go to the basement to check and the owner asked him what are u doing and he explained. The owner then comes over and watches our every move like we are looking to steal something. It felt so uncomfortable that I didn't even want to look at anything else. I did buy the jacket and kept it moving. No not even a thank you or have a nice day. Don't think I will be going back here. read more

BOZOS IS JUST THAT. BOZOS. As a native Staten Island Islander and a frequent shopper at bozos i went to purchase clothing on Dec.7th. As usual they do have a good selection and there was a sale on levis jeans. As the woman cashier rang up my purchase she made an obvious mistake over charging me by two hundred dollars, which she caught on her own but was annoyed just the same. i guess she was annoyed that my 196.00 purchase wasn,t enough to call her from the back for. Upon my arrival home going through my purchase I realized she did not honor the sale price on the levi's, a 30.00 overcharge. Let alone her nasty attitude towards me and the salesman that waited on me she cant work a simple adding machine. I was the only customer at the time(thank goodness). I returned to the store on Dec 10th to make an exchange, which the salesman handled without any hesitation. When I explained to him about being overcharged and showing him my receipt he respectfully explained to me he would check the advertisement to ensure the sale price was in effect. He explained to me that the sale price was in effect it was a cashier error and proceeded to call the woman who had originally rang up my purchase. She looked at the receipt told me it was my fault(my fault, she cant work an adding machine, I guess I should have rang it myself). She then proceeded to tell me that I should have brought in the jeans, I explained to her I was wearing a pair of them so she yells to the salesman who was helping another customer"hey check ans see if this guy is wearing levi's". Is she kidding? I told her don't bother, you need the 30.00 store credit more than I do. If she is not the owner she must be family, what a nasty individual. I guess the current economic conditions do not effect Bozos. As I will never return here I am also lodging complaints with the B.B.B. and the S.I.District Attorney"s office. read more

I went into the store on Friday looking for a pair of boots for work. They have a great selection of red wing boots which was awesome because they are the most durable and comfortable boot I have ever worn. I even used the coupon which was offered to me when I checked in on yelp. The salesman that helped me was very informative and helpful. I went back today to pick up a couple pairs of carhartt jeans. Overall a great local business I definitely recommend shopping here. read more
