Wow, my wife and I were also on Canyon Road for Christmas Eve night. We were drawn into Brad Smith Gallery by the incredible music (bongos) coming from inside while we were walking by. I had never been in or heard of Brad Smith or his gallery. Once inside for 2 minutes listening to the fabulous music, my wife stated, "You're in trouble, that painting speaks to me!" We walked closer to the painting, obviously admiring it.
When the music stopped, Brad, he was one of the two bongo players, came over and spoke to us. He was the kindest, friendliest person you could imagine. When I told him of my wife's statement, he admitted he was the artist and gallery owner, we had no idea. I told him we would buy the painting. His quote to me was, "I am so honored and humbled by people who love my art." We collect a lot of art, I can't think of too many times the artist was so humble and kind enough to show that kind of sincere appreciation.
We received our treasured painting yesterday and will treasure it forever, but mostly we will remember the kindness and appreciation we received from its artist.
As a side note, I suggested to Brad that he should record his bongo playing as I would surely purchase his CD's. He was as humble as can be. Well, when I mentioned that to the shipper of the painting, he laughed and mentioned that Brad was a drummer for a very popular female singing artist and actually had a Platinum record. Brad had told me that he was a professional musician before becoming full time artist, but he never mentioned his fame. Again, a truly humble and kind human being. As well as being an incredibly talented artist!
