I have been coming to this dentist for maybe 10 years (when I started, they were located in…read moresugarhouse). Just getting around to expressing my gratitude for 10 years of no issues and great hygienists. I've never had an appointment rescheduled (except for when Salt Lake went on lockdown), and they've always worked around my oddball schedule for my regular cleanings. I've never been "upsold", never had to pay for anything outside of my cleanings and (knock on wood) they've never found anything outside of what my insurance would cover. I decided to write this review now because of my recent experience, now that Covid guidelines are in full effect. Upon arrival, I walked to their front door and saw a sign that said to return to my car and call to let them know I was waiting. I got back in my car, called and let them know my car details, and just sat and waited for a few minutes. During that time, I saw one of the hygienists step out and wipe down the interior and exterior door handles, before she went back inside. Then a different staff member opened the door again and flagged me to come in. I walked in with my mask on and went straight back. They had me rinse with a peroxide solution before starting the normal cleaning schematics. I just wanted to show my appreciation and let them know that their new and additional acts of safety and precaution did not go unnoticed. As someone that is meticulous about cleaning and mask-wearing, I felt very safe. They have always had great communication and now their teamwork skills are thoroughly evident. I'd highly recommend this office.

TL;DR: Bad experience with Dr. Bradford Bowen…read more In June 2024 I received some fillings at my gum line from Dr. Bradford Bowen. A week later I was experiencing increasing discomfort in one of the filled teeth. I returned to the clinic and Dr. Bowen explained that when composite is applied to the tooth it can sometimes cause discomfort as it expands and contracts in response to temperature, but eventually it will calm down. This was the only explanation that I was given at the time. I was out of state for the next month and a half. My pain persisted, but based on what I had been told, I continued to hope that it would simply subside. In mid-July I called Garden View Dental and spoke with a receptionist. I told her that I was medicating for pain around the clock. She told me that she would speak with Dr. Bowen and call me back. She did, reassuring me that did not need to seek attention locally. The weekend after I returned to Utah in August, I experienced searing nerve pain that radiated through my jaw and skull and did not respond to painkillers. When I returned to Garden View the following week I explained what had happened. I was emotional, due to the amount of uncertainty and pain I had experienced. I began to recount what Dr. Bowen had told me in June, having been offered no other explanation for what was happening. Dr. Bowen replied, "Let's take a look before we start fabricating things." I replied that I was actually repeating back to him what he had told me at my last visit, and he said, "There's no reason to get huffy." I acknowledged that I was indeed upset, given the pain that I had been experiencing for 2 months. He said, "Well, I have been here every day." I replied that I had been out of state for a month and half. He said, "Well, that's on you." I was floored by his lack of professionalism and personal courtesy. After an x-ray, he informed me that my pain over the weekend was likely the nerve in my tooth dying. He explained that when decay is cleared away and a filling applied, it can lead to an infection in the nerve. Interestingly, he never actually articulated what should have been obvious at that point: Bacteria is left on the porous surface or directly on the nerve, and then it is sealed in with a filling, a clear recipe for infection. He told me that I needed a root canal. I returned home and scheduled a root canal for the next day with Dr. Carter at Salt Lake Dental. There I learned that a filling placed so close to the nerve is always at risk of causing infection. At Salt Lake Dental, a prophylactic antibacterial preparation is applied in these cases, and the patient is warned that a root canal may be necessary. If an antibacterial preparation was applied to my tooth by Dr. Bowen, I was not informed. Moreover, as I have already stated, I was never informed that infection was a risk at all. Even when I called the clinic more than a month after the filling was completed and explained the persistent pain I was experiencing, no red flags were raised. Of course it was my own choice to leave Utah for a month and a half. However, the fact that I continued with my life without any notion that something serious was happening in my tooth is "on" Dr. Bradford Bowen. I have no recourse to hold him to account for never informing me of the risk of infection, nor for dismissing my pain as normal. Suffice it to say, though, that my family will no longer be patronizing Garden View Dental.

The only things I find more frightening and detestable than a trip to the dentist are large spiders and man-eating sharks. Consequently, I have a history of forgoing my dental cleanings. However, a good friend of mine recently recommended Dr. Cho and I am ecstatic that he did. I had a great experience with Dr. Cho and his staff which has instilled a fresh, new perspective. I was forced to schedule a dental appointment due to a painful cavity which was well on its way into turning into an abscessed tooth. I was able to schedule an emergency appointment with Dr. Cho, they were very accommodating in this regard. His assistant and office manager Daphne were extremely helpful in bumping my appointment forward due to the discomfort and pain I was experiencing. Luckily, the cavity wasn't deep and the tooth only needed a filling - no root canal or extraction (Thank Goodness) Dr. Cho's Novocain injections were PAINLESS. I had no idea he had even injected me until after the fact - a true sign of a skillful dentist. Once my mouth was numbed he was able to get in there and clean out the tooth and complete the filling quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed at the lack of pain. The office is clean, tastefully decorated (with a more modern flavor), and well-lit with a ton of natural light through huge bay windows which fill an entire wall. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Dr. Cho and his staff go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. Upon arrival I was offered tea or coffee - and I was delighted when I was brought out a mug of steaming green tea with sweetener. Overall an impeccable experience and I have promised myself to actually adhere to my 6 month cleanings and preventive care. I believe it should be much easier now that I have discovered Dr. Cho.

This is the first Yelp review that I have ever written, but I feel it is important to let people…read moreknow what my experience at Smile Dental Studio entailed. I am new to the area and booked an appointment at Smile Dental because it was covered under my health insurance plan. I was appalled by how unprofessional and "scammy" the entire experience felt. I was at the office for 1.5 hours and did not get a cleaning or a dental exam, yet my insurance was billed $325. When I arrived, the front desk employee had me brush my own teeth with hydrogen peroxide. Then, Dr. Cho proceeded to give me an hour long lecture on COVID and how the virus acts on the mucus membrane. I am not irritated that he provided a lesson on COVID- in fact, I do think it is important for medical professionals to spread awareness about the virus. However, I am irritated that it took the entire appointment and that I was charged for it. After lecturing me on COVID, Dr. Cho told me that I should be spraying hydrogen peroxide up my nose, and handed me a spray bottle of a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution to do so. After my appointment, I called my primary care physician, who informed me to NEVER spray hydrogen peroxide up your nose. Needless to say, I threw the spray bottle out immediately. After an hour of COVID talk, Dr. Cho informed me that there was no time left for my cleaning, and that I would have to come back to do that. He also never gave a full dental exam. He took X-rays, and then looked at a single tooth, and that was the extent of his "exam". However, despite not getting a cleaning OR a dental exam, I left with a $325 bill to my insurance, and a $30 in-office charge to me. I was told that this $30 was a copay, but then my insurance company later told me that Smile Dental has charged me for their PPE. I understand that COVID will change the way medical visits go, but I feel that Smile Dental Studio used it as an excuse to make money off patients, without providing any real dental care. I felt scammed. For the record, when I called Smile Dental after the appointment to cancel my next appointment and request a refund for the $30 that I should not have been charged, they immediately refunded me and tried to brush it under the rug. I suspect this is not the first time they have been busted charging every single patient $30 for the mask that Dr. Cho wore, which as a dentist, he would be wearing whether or not COVID was a thing. While I am relieved and appreciative that the refund was granted, I am unfortunately unable to go to another dentist for my cleaning and exam (that I never got at Smile Dental Studio) because my insurance only allows for one free cleaning and exam a year. I will now have to pay $150 elsewhere for what I intended to get out of a dentist appointment in the first place.
