I bought a car from someone who was a regular customer of Unique and now an having tons of problems…read morewith the car due to sloppy and simply incorrect work done on the car. I never had direct experience with the shop, again just inherited a car that they worked on. First of all, the car, a Subaru needed to have a new front axle replaced. Unique installed an aftermarket model that did not seat correctly and was missing the correct ring to secure it to the car. So I drove the car 400 miles after buying and it leaked differential fluid all the way home. I am lucky that it did not go dry and ruin the whole transmission. My local shop pulled out the axle and put in a new OEM axle from Subaru that did have the correct attachment hardware. They pointed out that the old axle was literally popping out of the differential and had nothing holding it in. The difference was that my local shop researched the car and problem and found that in newer Subarus you need to use OEM axles or at least install a special bracket to hold it in. Unique just put in the axle and hoped for the best. $400 for me. Then, problem #2 - the clutch - it was a manual car . Unique had replaced the clutch on this car 1500 miles before I bought it. Engagement was terrible and it shuddered badly when engaging first gear. Unfortunately, since I had driven from out of state I was unable to test the car fully before buying it. And further the problem was intermittent. So I got fed up with the clutch and decided to get it replaced. My local transmission shop replaced all the parts and I asked them to leave out the old parts so I could look at them myself. They showed me that the flywheel (a dual mass which is a more specialized kind) was machined. Anybody who knows transmissions, Subaru or not, knows that a dual mass flywheel cannot be machined - it must be replaced. The flywheel had all sorts of grooves on it and scratches hence the poor performance. Also other clutch parts did not look new so it is possible they never did a full clutch job as they billed the former owner $1100 for. This time it cost me $1200. So again I never used Unique but still feel that the public should be informed that they do not do good work based on the car that I inherited.

They replaced my timing belt for a much lower price than what Rohrman's wanted. Friendly employees and family owned is a major plus as well to the reliable service! Update: multiple car repairs later to tune up my car have came and gone and this is still the only shop in Lafayette I want touching my car. Honest owners. Educated mechanics. Best place in town.
