This is everyday normal & just the beginning of a messy classroom
    Yerdi V.

It was a terrible idea to have enrolled my son here. After paying tuition and extra fees, they handed a paper of supply list that said, "mandatory" and it included permanent marker packs, tissue box, treasury items..... and the list goes on. On orientation day, this teacher told us we had to take this envelope that said, "important information" and upon opening it, it was a coupon book!!!! Wtf! So I told them that I just bought one and didn't need it, & the teacher shoved it in my arms and told me to take it and think about buying another one. So I took it home. The first two weeks, this is what I've witnessed. Crowded room filled with kids. Even though they say the ratio is 12 kids per teacher and two assistants but there was never more than 2 adults in the room. The room was not big enough for these kids. There is constantly toys all over the floor and nobody is teaching the kids on how to clean up or wash up. My husband recorded my son playing with play doh and a kid behind him strait up took my snacks out of my son's lunch bag and no teachers were around to monitor. They are suppose to have a strict no sharing policy. You could say, it's the survival of the fittest. But we pay a lot of money for our kids to be taken care of and to learn. I witnessed a teacher with a book in her hand and a CD was playing for the kids and the teacher was just flipping through the pages. I witnessed no hand washing When the kids came from outside play to inside. They made my son wear his hat and shoes for naps. I hated this school for my two year old who couldn't speak for himself. My kid was not learning anything other than fighting to survive until I returned for him. I took him out and we are at Arista preschool now which is a totally different atmosphere and we love it. Don't waste your money and time here with your kids. I've heard great things about this school in grade school + however, the preschool program is unprofessional and unsafe environment. I would NOT recommend. Your kids are better off elsewhere that they can learn basic skills and positive interactions and reinforcement.

I wouldn't recommend any child who is unique and different in their way to be sent to this school because without a DOUBT they will have extreme problems. The principals and staff members fail miserably to do their jobs correctly unless a physical altercation has occurred or a threat has to be taken seriously by law. Most of the teachers are awesome and deserve so much better and we all know who they are. The kids were the main problem, not being able to be yourself and people slandering your FAMILY in group chats, Throwing dirt on your name, Making the majority of kids not like you caused by their lying, and overall massive groups of people that are insecure within themselves deflecting on kids who don't know how to defend themselves, . The amount of Racial Clowning, Insecurity, and Lack of control of students is insane and disappointing. Many parents and children have problems with Smedberg but no one cannot get a clear solution because they only tell you bullto make you go away. The bathroom, Sucks, The Energy Sucks, and the office staff SUCK. Just don't send your kids there, it will save you your time and grief.

SHS Huskies Class of 2004…read more Since the other alumni reviews shouted out to the music, choir, art and animation teachers, I will also chime in. My main program, which I still actively support today as a mentor and guest speaker, was the Biotech Academy. This was one of the pathways you could choose (others were focused on visual and performing arts, engineering and building trades, or social sciences), which had specialized classes you took over the 4 years. Now they've even added one more focused on agriculture (FFA). In BTA I was able to be exposed to hands-on microbiology, molecular biology (pipetting, running gels), and learn about ethics and technology in biotech careers on top of the regularly required biology, chemistry, physics and math. They also had field trips, community service, senior capstone project, internship opportunities, Blood Drive, and the Science Olympiad competitive team. Being in this academy really gave me an edge when I went on to UC Davis and inspired me to continue to pursue STEM professionally. I recently got to see their 2022 Open House showcasing seniors' projects (my 2021 mentee's was on CRISPR/Cas9) and demos such as streaking petri plates, chromatography, fluorescent proteins, extracting DNA from strawberries, and 3-D printing. Shout out to Mrs. Kosney, Ms. Laurison, Mr. Cecil, Mrs. Ziegenhirt, Mr. Fendall and Mrs. O'Bear. The science department also has other electives such as Physiology, Ecology, Criminalistics, Programming, and Lab Tech. I will also echo that Ms. George was the most amazing art teacher who I had for Art 1 and Commercial Art Graphics (didn't get to take AP Art Studio but she taught that too). That's where I got to learn how to airbrush acrylics, mixed media (pencil, ink, pastel, charcoal, acrylic) and opportunities to enter pieces in the State Fair or local/regional contests (Native Daughters of the Golden West, Duck Stamp). Shinozaki-sensei was also the sweetest Japanese teacher (now retired). At that time we didn't have honors or AP Japanese but it was so neat to even have it offered as a foreign language option alongside Spanish, French, German and ASL. I participated in the summer exchange program with students from Osaka, Japan where we were a host family and matched with one student every other summer. In the alternating summers, Sheldon and Laguna Creek students would be hosted by Osaka families. We also had an exchange student from Sapporo all year. It was the newest high school in the area at the time, before Pleasant Grove, Monterey Trails, Cosumnes Oaks and Franklin all popped up. For a public school in the suburbs, I would say I had a pretty well-rounded experience. Other: - "Every Day is a Great Day to be a Husky" - Flight of the Bumblebees playing during passing period before bells rang - Mazz's Alma mater/fight song "...cheer at the might of the teal, black & white" - Arts Alive (VAPA) -DeMarcus Nelson (basketball) before he went on to Duke - Japan Club taiko drummers at Multicultural Assembly - American Idol Season 2 Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken visited - commencement at Arco Arena

They were not handicap accessible enough as I have chronic pain and asthma and could not get to classes quick enough without having an asthma attack. I had to get an IEP/504 plan and that didn't even help most of the time. I also have AuDHD and I don't learn at the pace of other students and the teachers weren't as accommodating as they should've been in that area. I got detention once because I couldn't get to my class fast enough in my wheelchair and I ended up having a panic attack because they were yelling at us, we couldn't have beanies or hoodies on, we couldn't have any electronics out, and we had to be working on something. I wouldn't have a problem with it if they weren't screaming at us. I also couldn't get a lot of my school work done if I was stuck at home due to chronic pain flare ups or being sick. I feel like they could've been more accommodating with having work online in case something happened and a student couldn't get to school. I have since transferred to Visions In Education. It's an online learning program and I strongly recommend it if you have problems getting around campus normally or have learning differences.

I understand teenagers make mistakes, but the way this school handles situations is extremely frustrating. I constantly receive calls, emails, TalkingPoints messages, and notifications for every little thing my daughter supposedly does -- not looking forward in class, she can't look down, she's put in a group for a group project but can't talk or use her computer for references, being late, being on her phone, etc. One teacher allows music, but then my daughter gets in trouble for being on her phone at the same time. The communication is inconsistent and overwhelming. What's even more frustrating is the attendance issues. I receive notifications about tardies and absences, and when I call to clarify or correct them, the office acts like it's a simple attendance correction. Later I find out there were even more absences or tardies I was never notified about in the first place. The school is very quick to point out every flaw or mistake students make, but never acknowledges anything positive they do or explains what THEY are doing to help students improve. I made sure to hear both sides from the teachers and from my daughter and honestly, the teachers never admitted what they may have done wrong. My daughter was more honest about the situation than the adults were. Once I started holding staff accountable and speaking up as a parent, attitudes suddenly changed and they started treating her differently. The administration has also been disappointing. I spoke directly with the principal looking for support, and instead of helping, I was told he had "more important priorities" and would call me back. He never did. That says a lot about how concerns from parents and students are handled. I could go on and on. This environment is not supportive. Students need accountability, but they also need support, fairness, and communication from adults who are supposed to help them succeed. Even though this is a newer school, I had much higher hopes for my daughter's freshman year experience. Unfortunately, it has been nothing but stressful and disappointing. Before enrolling your child into this school, I strongly recommend reading reviews and speaking with other parents first. Communication from staff feels more focused on punishment and constant criticism rather than support or helping students succeed. Parents deserve honesty, follow-through, and staff who are willing to work with families instead of making them feel ignored.

We unexpectedly moved to the area and had three weeks to look for a school before the year started. We started with another school which didn't work out at all. After we found SPLS, I wished so much that we had found them a lot sooner. First and foremost, the school fosters a faith-filled nurturing environment. You feel this in the core of the school community among the teachers, the office staff, and the administration. They genuinely care about our students and are so kind and wonderful. The academics are top-notch and are taught in a fun and engaging way. Our teachers are not only very credentialed but have amazing backgrounds in homeschooling and years of experience in many other school settings. My daughter came home with math homework once which looked like something I didn't see until I was older. I was prepared to relearn the lesson and teach it to her when she said, "Don't worry. My teacher taught me again when I didn't understand it the first time. I got it. It's actually easy!" This spoke volumes that my daughter would feel encouraged and confident even as learning gets challenging. The families here are diverse. It is a beautiful community where my child shares things about her culture and learns about others. During the summer, my daughter can't wait to start school as she misses her teachers and friends. Fortunately, the school has a summer enrichment program that runs through July. We feel blessed that our daughter was able to get into this school. I have toured 3 private schools and our local public school. Hands down I cannot even compare. They checked off all of my boxes and then some. There is no other school as special as this place has been for us. It makes me feel confident as a parent that my child is getting a solid foundation. Thank you SPLS for welcoming us with open arms.
