The staff was really polite and guided us every step of the way. I love the scripts and the interactions with all "actors" and if honestly felt like we were really captaining a ship! We were decided into teams so that we could each have a role and we watched info videos about how to monitor our station- engineers, operations, tech, etc. The story line was great and honestly everyone was such a good sport. They have 2-3 hour sessions and even a 5 hour session if that is of any interest!!! 100000/10 highly recommend

Before I left, I was pretty nervous about living in an unfamilair place with a bunch of strangers, but it actually turned out to be exactly what I needed. I met lifelong friends who laughed beside me as we taught our crazy students that I still miss every single day. I also learned how to Bollywood dance which was amazing because I had just graduated from college with a degree in dance. We also got to go on some epic vacations. My favorite places that we went were the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu. Riding camels through the desert and camping under the stars was a close second though. I always felt super safe and that ILP was doing their best to make sure I was taken care of despite being literal time zones away from me. My only warning is that my group and I would get sick of the food. Especially the rice and beans. It kept us filled, but felt so repetitive that we'd lose our appetites. Luckily, our coordinators were super helpful and helped us communicate with our cooks about how we can make meals more exciting. Oh yeah, and the cold showers were a bit of a shock at first... with that being said, boring food and cold showers was totally worth it in exchange for the memories and friends that I made while I was abroad.

WARNING!! ILP is not a program you want to send your child on across the world. Do not apply to…read moreILP. My daughter was supposed to be on a program to China for 5 months volunteering/teaching. On her 3rd week she (and her fellow volunteers) were abruptly removed from her school without proper information from anyone at ILP for 4 days. They were told by the coordinator the Chinese government was doing inspections at the school. My daughter & her peers lived in fear after hearing from other volunteers in their same city that were actually detained by the Chinese police on that same day, their passports take and for 3 hours they were questioned under hostile terms. ILP and the Director Jared failed to inform the volunteers or parents and ultimately these volunteers who paid $2500.00 for this program were given 3 options. Not 1 that was feasible, 1 was not even putting the volunteers in a safe environment as it included sending them back to the school to take Chinese classes, but no longer volunteer. The girls felt unsafe returning to the school after the events they just learned about & went through. Jared is a horrible Director. He only cares about the program being promoted & when an actual emergency arises, Jared is incompetent to handle it. There were medical issues with ALL of the volunteers due to unhealthy living situations that ILP puts these volunteers up in. Jared tried to cause panic with the volunteers & parents by instilling fear of infectious disease, but then had no medical information to support his comments. He would throw something out there, but then have nothing to support it. Jared refused to offer even a partial refund to these volunteers who paid $2500.00 for this 5 month program. As a parent, you should be aware of sending your child anywhere around the world with this program and a Director as incompetent as Jared. As I type this review, my daughter is home after 5 weeks due to having the wrong Visa while in China. All the volunteers in my daughters group are home along with the other volunteers at the other school in her city that were detained by the police. Yet, ILP still has volunteers in China and I would have to assume Jared has yet to properly inform those volunteers or their parents about the situation that transpired in southern China. It's been almost 20 years since I left HS and math and I have never been friend. There is so much I couldn't remember. I was starting from scratch. But this semester, WOW! Math seemed fun now and passing a test, attainable. After all those years of feeling embarrassed and continually failing math, Ology really gives students confidence. I got a B in the class. Me!? (My friend took her math class from the college, had to find her own tutors, spend time in the math lab... wait "in line" to see a tutor and only receiving help from the tutors once or twice a visit. She barely passed with her extra credit assignments) At Ology, you get way better results, tutors with uniform but unique teaching styles and are readily available for homework help. Ology has additional workshops for test prep too. It's well worth the money and time. There are tutors there almost 24-7. Use them! You've payed for them. Time in the tutoring lab means a great test grade and an awesome final grade. Trust me. Students of all ages attend Ology. There is no shaming here. They basically have a no fail, fool proof way to get you past math and on your way to graduation. And if you don't pass, they got your back. But you will.

Ology isn't cheap and they will be the first to tell you it won't be easy. That said, here is what…read morethey will do for you. First, they will show you how how to enroll in the BYU Math 110 course (equivalent to UVU Math 1050) through the BYU Independent Study Program. Unlike UVU, No placement test is required to take this course. The course consists of 34 homework assignments, one pre-test, three mid-terms, and one final. The pretest and homework assignments are completed online. The mid-terms and final can be taken at the BYU Independent Study Office, the BYU Testing Center, or at an approved proctored testing facility. Here is the part I really liked. The pre-test and the three midterms can be retaken twice after the initial attempt. The final can be retaken once after the initial attempt. The fee to retake tests at BYU is $15. Also, there is no limit on the number of attempts to complete the homework assignments. Oh, they will show you how to sign up for the homework site too. By the way, I paid about $575 to BYU for this course, which includes the separate fee of $99 to access the homework website. Then, I paid Ology $1,000 for their services, which includes a structured class that covers the material, an Ology Text Book with chapters matching the homework assignments, access to their math lab w/computers and lab tutors, and free bottled water!!! Ology has a payment plan if paying $1000 up front isn't possible for you. I believe if you utilize the payment plan option it comes out to $1,100. Ology also offers a "pass or don't pay guarantee." This "guarantee" is a contract between you and Ology that basically states that if you put in the work they will pay for you to re-take the class and that includes both the BYU and Ology fees. You, the student, have to show up to class, don't be more than 15 minutes late, complete the homework assignments on schedule (Ology's schedule, not BYU's) - since BYU doesn't really have one) and miss no more than five days of class throughout the term. The first two missed class periods can be made up in the math lab, the next three you would have to make up through their private tutoring service which is $30/hour. UVU accepts BYU Math 110 as transfer credit meeting the UVU Math 1050 Course. To do this you must have a minimum combined total score of 150 points or higher on the three midterms and 50 points or higher on the Final. Each mid-term and the final are worth 100 points each. I believe your online pre-test score must be 50 points or higher. You also must get 100% on the homework assignments, which sounds hard but it's not, given the resources you will have available to you, such as the math lab tutors and your teacher. Also, wolframalpha.com can be very helpful. Another big help that Ology offers is they have and willingly distribute midterms and finals given to BYU Math 110 students from past semesters. Even though the questions aren't the same the concepts are and they were in the same order as the mid-terms and final I took. My teacher at Ology was AMAZING!!! Not only did she know math she also knew how to teach it, which is significant. She would give use the option to chose being taught a detailed lesson on a particular concept or just what we would need to know to pass, which I really liked. Unfortunately, there are teachers/tutors at Ology who have no business teaching but despite not being good teachers they do know math. I would ask questions very specific in nature but the answer would be far from what I was looking for. There was a point that I thought I wouldn't be able to pass math but I did. In all, I paid about $2,000 including private tutoring, but it was money well-spent in my opinion. Now, math is behind me and graduation is closer.
