This place is a few notches up from a road side stand and is about a 40 minute drive from the KCI area, so for me, no big deal to get here. In the summer, they are a huge fireworks stand and veggie and fruit market. In the fall, they still offer late season veggies and have an amazing selection of pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, hay bales, etc for far better prices than in KC. I brought my friend here with me last week on our pumpkin run and she was amazed to get a cart load of pumpkins at the price she paid. Let's just say she found a huge white and green striped gourd weighing about 40 pounds...for $5.99. Yes, it's that amazing. Now, I happen to be a pumpkin freak and I love fall (I loooooooove pumpkins!) so digging through bins and bins overloaded with every pumpkin variety imaginable is a perfect morning for me! My haul included two HUGE mums (2 for $20), and 8 pumpkins!! (Cinderella, huge white, green, yellow/green stripe, peanut, etc in all shapes and sizes) for $48..total was a little over $73 for a literal trunk full. If you are a fellow pumpkin freak, you won't be disappointed.

There is a reason things are marked down so cheap; preparing a dinner for that evening - go for it. Stocking up for the week - think twice. My favorite bargains are when avocados are 4 / $1 or flats of bananas are $3. A great way to overindulge on some tasty guacamole (get the seasoning next door) or a cheap healthy treat for the office staff. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd visit daily and knock down my grocery bill by 75%.

Now, nessled on about 4 acres, they grow a variety of vegetables and flowers with no irrigation, using sustainable methods (live mulch (i.e., weeds) to shade the crops and renew the soil). They also use built environmental methods to extend the growing season of certain non-native plants, and have even applied for and received grants from the USDA (the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program) to experiment growing ginger in the midwest (local ginger!!!) and to experiment growing bitter melon indoors. The Huns already have an incredible assortment of herbs and vegetables. On last count at the KC Farmer's Market, I saw 3 varieties of basil, 2 types of parsley, bitter melon, of which the leaves and stems you can make green tea (don't give the tea to children or people prone to low blood sugar blackouts), perslin (misspelled), and onions. At other times, there were flowers, heirloom tomatoes, zuchinni, potatoes, and green (and purple) beans. The best part is, everything is extremely cheap, bunches are mostly $1 each. Go there, say hi, and enjoy the stir fry. UPDATE: Last weekend, early August 2008, the Huns had an early batch of ginger--kansas grown ginger? you ask. Yep, it's for real. As far as I know, it's the only midwest-grown ginger being grown around.

Most shops are accessible through indoor hallway, so it's manageable to walk in winter. There are several different types of shops, restaurants, grocery stores are available. There's also a steam boat museum with a gift shop. Among restaurants they had Arabian, Brazilian, Indian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Ethiopian, Filipino and a Pizza place. All these places were small shops with limited seating area. There was one boba tea store and a Dutch flower shop as well. We spent over an hour exploring different shops. We bought some souvenir goods from here. All the staff members and associates were friendly and helpful. I wish there was better heating in the passage way, especially the restaurant and grocery stores wing.
