Come in the morning for pancakes or come later for cupcakes and pie. The menu has lots of vegan options for those avoiding butter, eggs, and that kind of stuff. Charming interior that has a coziness about it. It's just as much of a bakery as it is a cafe, with display cases full of goodies and sweets. There's a good amount of indoor dining too. A lot come in here to pick up baked items at the counter. If dining in, have a seat. The menu is actually kind of big with tons of things. It's about $7 for a large latte. Kind of pricy, as far as coffee goes but it's good though. Has some non dairy milks. It's about $11 for the Vegan Waffles. Hearty and filling. Waited to sit down to type this up. Went here to eat at around 2pm because we were going to go to Mary Lou's but they close at 2. Instead decided to try the Branch Cafe even though when we ate there a year ago we had a hour wait so we hadn't been back since. Ordered two breakfast meals and coffee and soup. It was around 2:40 ish when the waitress offered to get us a dessert because of our wait. Mind you we got there a few minutes after 2 because I looked at my phone right before we pulled in to park. We ate dessert and were still waiting so we asked the waitress if our order was being cooked because if not, we were going to pay for our coffees and go elsewhere. Almost a one hour wait. The whole back room was empty so it wasn't busy. So the owner proceeds to come up and started to argue about when we got there. The waitress says things like "when you go to fine dining, you expect a wait" as if we've never been in a sit down restaurant in our life. The whole experience was horrible. My food was cold. The owner and waitress were extremely rude, combative and condescending. I don't know if the waitress forget to turn our order in or what, but it was almost right at an hour wait for some soup and few breakfast items. Will NEVER be back. Fun cafe with celiac safe- gluten free items on the menu. Attentive server and excellent conversation. The gluten free waffle was tasty along with the southwestern special. They have a whole pastry case of gluten free and vegan items. The back room store was fun to poke around in after our brunch. read more

Waited nearly three hours for the food. Our server kept saying food would come out soon and the kitchen was backed up. When our table complained about the wait, he had hardly delivered any expression as he repeated the same rehearsed line. Some plates came out cold, showing they had waited in the back of the house. A charming restaurant with a great ambiance. Located in the heart of town, about a block from the main road, it was very easy to find. A corner location with a main room upon entry, back room, which was more spacious, and an outdoor side patio. A couple visits from 2 different times in town, and both provided delicious and healthy meals. The avocado toast was delightful! Perfect portion size. I've lived here for 11 years and have heard about this place from time to time. I just got a wild hair and went for lunch today after craving a salad and looking at their menu online. When you first walk in, the ambience is just so welcoming. There's so many things to look at. I ordered the Caesar salad with salmon cakes, and it was great! I spoke with a host and she said after 26 years of being a vegetarian restaurant, they just added meat to the menu. Fun little boutique shopping set up for specialty snacks and local delicacies. We could tell they were a little short-staffed, but they were all working so hard to keep up! What I ordered: I got a black coffee and avocado toast. I ordered the veggie harvest which was brown rice, veggies, and tofu in an asian sauce. the cafe had indoor seating but that was closed and only outdoor seating was available - inside was only to order sad for pickup. while picking up my good the pastries looked good so i ordered the nutella cupcake - both that plus my food were good. good portion size and good flavor, not overpowering but just enough to be tasty. overall a great option to get healthy and veggie friendly food read more

Even though it says coffee house, I wouldn't describe this place as one. They specialize in coffee, drinks, and desserts, but they have a separate menu with meals that you would see at any small cafe. I was hesistant to try this place because it was vegetarian, but I heard a lot of good things about this place so I wanted to try it out. We ordered the hummus, chips, and salsa. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. The hummus was bland, but the worse part was that the salsa and chips were store bought. How do I know? I buy Tostitos Medium Salsa all the time. I knew from the first bite. Why don't they make their own salsa? Buffalo Wild Wings does. My fiance told me the Chinese noodles were the best and they were really good. The only thing is I wouldn't cosider them Chinese. The noodles were Italian fettuccine noodles. The sauce resembles that of Thai food. The first few bites were really good, but as I continued, the flavor built up in my mouth. After a while, it became too much to eat. I stopped because the flavor was too overwhelming. The service was better than most people have said. The waiter was on top of it. He checked in on us regularly and everything came out promptly. I didn't get a chance to try the drinks or desserts. I myself am not a big coffee drinker, but even if I was, I think their drink prices are pretty pricey. More expensive than Starbucks. I love desserts, but they didn't have any cupcakes that day. First off, I am basing my three stars on the fact that I am writing this from a vegan perspective. I've been to Longbranch a few times, and I enjoyed the service and atmosphere. The food that I did get was very tasty, the cheeseless calzone tasted AMAZING. My big complaint is the fact that for an all vegetarian cafe, the vegan pickings are slim. A casual glance over the menu might make you think otherwise, but when you look at the items that aren't marked as 'can be made vegan', you kind of wonder, why not? What about this tofu and noodle dish is vegetarian but not vegan that can't be easily changed? Why are none of the breakfast items marked as vegan friendly, why isn't there even tofu scramble? I wish I could reference menu items, but it appears that the link to their online menu is currently not working. Two times I went during the day and saw no vegan items in the bakery case (insert sad face here). Then I went again at night with some friends, and they had one vegan cupcake (which I ate, and it was pretty good). So I don't know the rhyme or reason for when vegan baked goods are available, but if you're specifically looking for vegan baked goods your first best shot would be the co-op. Overall, I wish that the menu would default to vegan items unless eggs or dairy are part of the actual dish. Like, have the veggie burger and bun be vegan but if someone wants cheese on it, fine. Have the desserts be vegan unless it's a kind that specifically needs eggs (like angelfood cake) or dairy (like "real" cheesecake). It would also be great to see some use of seitan or tempeh on the menu! read more

It's great that there's a fully vegetarian restaurant but by no means do I think it's great. It should be noted that I live in STL so I'm spoiled with the food there. I have been here twice. First time, I ordered the Nashville scramble. Salsa was too hot for me and the amount of pepper was unbearable. It was a decent portion. Today, I ordered the Vegetarian Harvest (pictured). Sauce was full of salt. Tofu was still soggy. Veggies were good but not hearty....some sweet potato or mushrooms would've helped the dish out. I am still super hungry after spending $9 (with tax) on a meal. Also, on weekends you can't order to go on the phone so I had to awkwardly sit and wait for my food. Such a treat to have in Southern Illinois! This place has an extensive menu offering local, organic vegetarian fare. Longbranch is a staple in the Carbondale community. Service is quick, friendly, and sassy (the good kind of sassy). I love the coffee here, and their espresso is wonderful (toasty, rich, and NOT BURNT! That's a big bonus for me). All the baked items I've sampled have been excellent and not too sugary/buttery for my tastes--just the perfect balance. I particularly enjoy the breakfast menu, I always order the ninja (biscuit, soysage gravy, eggs, roasted veggies) with a side of beans. It's the most delicious combination of foods. Anyway, go here. The food is nothing special. Mostly microwaved with no imagination and terribly priced considering the ingredients they use aren't actually local, they're "regional." A total waste of money. As far as the establishment itself goes: Deplorable working conditions, including forcing their employees to work in a 130 degree kitchen. Management intimidates employees on a regular basis including firing employees when they disagree with higher ups. They also don't take the health and safety of their employees into consideration. Also I've heard stories from LGBTQA+ people that they disproves the safe space facade they've been capitalizing from. Do NOT frequent this establishment.
