As soon as I walked in, they got us right into the examination room which I appreciated so much. This prevented a lot of extra stress on my cat because she didn't have to see a bunch of other animals in a waiting room. Every single person who works here is so kind, empathetic and friendly. I also loved that this is a "no fear" establishment. This means that they didn't scruff my cat during the appointment and they were super gentle with her the whole time. They also brought her in a nice cardboard box to hide in to help calm her down and created a hiding spot with towels for her. My last vet didn't think to do any of this for my cat and they were so aggressive with her which is why we never went back. The people who work here were just very considerate and made me and my pet feel comfortable and well cared for. They were upfront about all costs which I appreciated as well. An added bonus, they have an outdoor patio area right outside the examination room (awesome if you have a dog) and it also allowed you to be able to walk right out to the parking lot instead of having to walk through the lobby which typically stresses animals out because they see other animals coming in. I can't recommend this place enough. You can definitely trust them with your fur babies and know in full confidence they are in good hands at River Oaks Animal Hospital. Thank you guys!

I am extremely disappointed by my recent experience at this veterinary office…read more My husband previously spoke to the office and received permission for me to conduct a quiet virtual service-dog training session in the parking lot as long as my dog remained leashed. My dog is also a patient/client of this office, and the purpose of the session was to help desensitize him to the veterinary environment in a calm and controlled way with the guidance of our trainer over a live video call. We stayed in an outer grassy area away from other clients, animals, and vehicles. We had no interactions with anyone during the session and caused no disruption whatsoever. At the end of the session, while sitting at the back of my vehicle finishing the video call with my trainer and reviewing the session, a staff member approached us accusing us of "recording outside." I immediately clarified that I was not recording anything and showed her the live virtual training session on my phone. Despite this, the interaction quickly escalated and we were told we were no longer allowed to train there and were threatened with police involvement and trespassing. The staff member demanded my information in order to "remove my file". This interaction sent me into a medical episode and when the front desk staff were notified, they laughed instead of seeking medical assistance like a professional would be expected to. Instead, the staff called the Horry County Police Department and threatened with trespassing me unless I was making an appointment. Training for the mental well-being of my animal for future appointments but business and $ I fully understand a business's right to change or revoke permission regarding use of their property. However, the way this situation was handled felt unnecessarily confrontational and intimidating, especially considering we had prior permission, were not recording, and were simply working on training for a dog who is already a patient there. I hope this office reflects on how situations like this are approached in the future, particularly when dealing with clients involved in service-dog training and behavioral desensitization work. Aside from this incident, I will add that the previous times that my dogs (3) have been to this facility they have had hands-on contact with a vet for less than 5 minutes. I live nearby and thought convenience was worth it... it's not. Do yourself and your pet a favor, find a place that can see your pet when they're sick sooner than an appointment 2 weeks away.

Coastal Veterinary Care is fantastic. There aren't enough superlatives for Dr. Black and her team,…read moreincluding veterinary tech Erika. We visited this practice for the second time last week in Myrtle Beach from our vacation spot in Sunset Beach. Our first experience was a few years ago when Dr. Black saw our miniature schnauzer Katie, who was an ailing senior citizen. Dr. Black took all the time in the world to examine Katie and to educate my husband on what was going on with her health. She even called my husband after he had returned to Sunset Beach to suggest another medication that might be helpful, and had one of her technicians drop it off at the Food Lion parking lot on her way home! That is how considerate and compassionate she is. We returned last week with our newest mini schnauzer Josie, who had two sets of stitches from an unfortunate encounter with a fox, and our local vet wanted them removed before we returned from vacation. We were so happy to once again call on Dr. Black and enjoyed our experience even more. Her assistant Erika was so nice, and made us feel at home as we waited for Dr. Black. She gave us updates while we were waiting and was very gentle with Josie in getting her ready for her appointment. Dr. Black was as terrific as we remembered her, extremely caring, knowledgeable and gentle with Josie. She removed Josie's stitches and reported that Josie was a perfect patient, and was healing well from her injuries. She is not only a skilled medical professional, but also a very kind and relatable person. If you live in Myrtle Beach with your pet, you are very fortunate to have Dr. Black in your midst! Susan W
