My husband doesn't like it when I take photos of food. Which I find hilarious, and of course to do to annoy him. So when, after one bite of our entrees, he says "this is amazing. You need to take a picture of this" it's got to be something really special.
I'm a little in love with l'Entrecote. I love the idea - a handful of entrees and desserts, a signature steak, and one alternate main choice, with everything done perfectly. No following trends, no extraneous choices, just classic, elegant meals with great ingredients and fantastic technique. The customer service is PHENOMENAL - from the little complimentary bowl of nuts to accompany your drinks to the impromptu French lesson from our awesome waitress and all the charm and care shown by the lovely maitre'd /co-owner. There's a real art to making every table feel like long-awaited, treasured guests and these guys have it absolutely down pat.
We tried the soufflé and quail (too good not to photograph), signature sirloin (perfectly cooked with a decadently good 'secret' sauce) and lamb shoulder (melt-in-the mouth soft and unctuously good). The only tiny dull point was the frites which appeared to be frozen rather than hand-cut - but still pretty great dipped in the sauce!
Now. The desserts. Oh my god, the desserts. Because we're extremely health conscious and big fans of self-restraint we ordered three, which was a damn good thing as I almost took my husband's hand off when he came near my macaron. Freaking amazing. I'm still dreaming about it a little now.
We'll be there again on Valentine's Day, and I can't wait. Nor should you. Go now, try the steak. And anything from the entrees. And definitely the macaron. See if they'll do a few to take away while you're at it. read more
