A most impressive French Restaurant! The style, the furnishings, the music, the food and the service was excellent. I love walking into a place and know this will be a lovely night for my work colleagues or downstairs in the more intimate areas this is ideal for the first date. I can tell you I have had too many to count. The food was incredible. Every mouthful melted in my mouth. The duck easily came off the bone and the side dishes were very tasty. Plenty of wine to wash everything down.... but not cheap. Then again who wants cheap wine with fantastic food. Parking is a problem if you don't know the area. There is a local council car park behind the shops. Or come by train, and stagger home with a full belly and a lite head! read more

Great food and great service. Had the special entree witlof, proscuitto, baby artichokes, croquettes and some kind of nage thingy - it was sensational. I would have had the special main (veal) but they were all gone by six thirty. Keeno had duck confit, only because there weren't any scallops. I had Barramundi done very well and with a french name that meant nothing to me. You will need to book for a Friday or Saturday, it gets regularly sold out. The number #1 restaurant according to TripAdvisor in Linfield so thought I better check it out. It was a Wednesday night and it was packed, so that is a good sign - so make sure you book early. I ordered the 3 courses, which was a very reasonable $68. I had the trout for entree which I gotta say was pretty special - a great balance of flavours. My "plat principal" (the main course, for those not up on their French) was the Salmon - it was good, but not overly memorable. The service was ok, but not great - we were served the wrong wine and the waiter forgot our dessert order and we had to remind him. We've gone to Cafe Lyon a couple of times now. Yesterday was a nice evening, so we decided to book for dinner at 7pm. It was super busy so we could only get on the footpath, which turned out to be fine. We ordered the special, pate entry to share with champagne, two mains of venison and followed by a lemon tart and a medley of 3 little deserts, a chocolate mousse, lemon tart and creme brulee. The pate was a little cold and too firm, on my pate scale I'd give it 2/5. I like my pate more flavoursome and spreadable, this was not. The venison was cooked on the rare side (the proper way to do it) and was great, lots of flavour and well presented, 4.5/5. My medley of desserts was terrific (5/5). My wife's lemon tart was ok but the filling was a little too runny and not quite tart enough, not by a huge amount, but should have been set a little more (3.5/5). Service was pretty good (4/5) my only complaint was the coffee and the dessert did not arrive close enough together, we had finished dessert before the coffee arrived. Cafe Lyon is a great place, the food is very good overall, it is busy on the weekend though, lots of people and lots of noise, so don't expect a quiet intimate dinner. I've had better experiences at this place. It took forever to get our order taken. Then we waited a long time for the entree to arrive. I ordered pork belly as had loved it in the past but this time it was dry, overcooked and unpleasant. So disappointing. Rest of the meal was great until the bill arrived and we were slapped with an $11 surcharge to use AMEX which ate into the tip we had already planned to give. Once the waitress realised this she made it clear she was NOT happy so started abruptly clearing up the table by pulling at the menus from under us even when leaning on them and acting in a very pissed off way that made us all look at each other gobsmacked. Ate here last week with a couple of friends, really lovely food but wow they were keen to get us out of there! Being with a couple of girlfriends we like to linger, but they were ready to serve us desserts around half an hour after arriving. My friend had to ask to have a break between main and dessert, at which point they got the message and we chatted for another half hour before deciding to get dessert. Otherwise the food was great, the dessert a particular standout - I had the chocolate fondant with cherries and ice cream. Totally delish but really rich. Nice touch was the sample prawn entree from the chef. Sadly not BYO and the wine menu was extremely pricey - didn't get past the Cloudy Bay for $80, can't imagine what the French wines would have cost! read more

Delicious food and ok service. I will come back here. However I have a few quibbles. The 'pavlova' is not a pavlova. Pavlova is, in order, meringue with a crisp outside and soft light interior, cream and fruit. This dessert is fruit, sorbet (sorbet???), crisp meringue and a teaspoon of cream. France is very protective of its food heritage and I respect that. In Australia we don't have many dishes that are uniquely ours. I wish this restaurant would respect our food heritage. I don't like the pricing. Set prices for 2 or 3 courses means I feel there is less choice in choosing from the menu. Eg, I often prefer 2 entrees but this would not be worth it with this pricing system. Entrees were very different sizes. My entree of seafood was tiny but my husband's entree of pork belly was quite large. I guess this is a result of the pricing system. I would prefer more consistent sizes with different prices. Service was too quick. We had eaten 3 courses and paid our bill in 45 minutes read more

Great to have a really good restaurant in Lindfield. 6 of us went on a Saturday night. . Faultless service, great food, pleasant atmosphere. . Not cheap but pretty good value. . Will definitely go again BYO except Friday and Saturday. read more

We recently visited cafe Lyon for Valentines day. The food I have to say was delicious. HOWEVER the service was VERY VERY poor. We were one of the first to arrive and be seated, yet customers who turned up later were served before us. My wife was knocked three times by the waiter with no apology. We were served our main before our entree. I also noticed this happen on two other tables. I can only assume due to valentines day they over stretched themselves & brought in extra staff who didn't understand the way things worked. There saving grace was the food. We will try again on a not so busy night and see if it makes a difference as good food is hard to find. read more

I would give a five star rating but for the problem of not being able to hear the person sitting opposite me at the table very clearly. This may well be a problem related to my twilight years rather than the restaurant and I didn't let it worry me. The food was as good as any I have enjoyed anywhere in my limited travels around the world. The staff were alert, very capable and with a good sense of humour - a rarity these days. Upon reflection, the noise factor is more my problem than that of the restaurant so let's go for 4.5 stars. It is a superb restaurant and worth visiting, again and again. Peter Lightfoot read more

It's six years since I was last there. The menu is imaginative, not too large and well balanced. Food preparation and presentation were excellent. Service of top quality. Delicious French food, reasonable sized serves and not that expensive. If you live on the north shore it is a rare opportunity to eat up market without the long drive. Great thu and fri lunch meals as well, with awesome desserts. On a Saturday night we fed a family of four excluding alcohol for about $250. read more
