We were buying our house in 2008. Our inspector noted the shingles on five year old house did not look to be wearing out well. The seller's realtor, upon our request called Brauer Roofing for expert evaluation. Brauer Roofing put it in writing that the shingles were fine. We went ahead with the purchase. The roof got worse progressively worse pretty quickly after the first year. I kept looking for any reference to the problem with no luck. I even called my insurance agent who said he had no knowledge of any issues with roofs. Finally I discovered a class action law suit that was in progress when we bought the house and was settled soon after. I found out 15 days past the time given to file claim. I am well aware of the fact that even those that filed did not get much from Certainteed, but for a matter of a principle it would have been worth. I called Brauer and asked him how he said the roof looked great when he knew that there was a class action lawsuit in St Paul involving a product that is on thousands of homes in MN. His answer, was that he "only had an obligation to inspect it visually" and did not look what product was on the house. However if you know anything about Certain teed shingle failure, they affected products made over decades and were well known in the industry at the time of the inspection. In addition, you only need to inspect it visually In fact roofers drop flyers in people's mail boxes with information about filing claims by driving by the house. So this lame excuse does not hold water. The lesson, Brauer Roofing is a sham business with no integrity, customer service or long term vision. In fact the owner was abusive and tried to bully me when I brought up his inspection and the facts on the case. Do business with such a person at your own peril. read more
