We had a really fun time at Brauhaus Georgbräu. We originally had two other reservations at very popular Berlin resturants for dinner, at went rogue here. We'd been out exploring all day long and I was running a marathon in the morning, it was raining and I just wanted dinner closer to our hotel. I love the area Brauhaus Georgbräu is located in. It's so romantic (the area, I guess the resturanat too but that wouldn't be my first description of it). We'd stumbled upon the area earlier in the afternoon and wanted to spend more time walking around here so it made sense to come back for dinner. We walked around and then selected Brauhaus Georgbräu after looking at many menus nearby. Brauhaus Georgbräu looked very lively, hearty portions (which I was looking for before a race) and an all around warm, cozy, fun, pub feel. We wandered in out of the rain and were seated immediately in a nice dining space in front of a window with a great view. My boyfriend and I both ordered the same dish, the pork schnitzel with boiled potatoes and veggies. After spending all day out sight seeing, this dish was the perfect warm meal on a rainy evening! We also shared a really tasty meatball'ish type appetizer that we both really enjoyed. We ordered the 12 beers, thinking they were a tasting flight and were asked if we wanted light or dark, and said both. The funny thing is, this wasn't a tasting it was just literally 12 beers! We couldn't finish all of them, and asked our server if a large group in the room wanted them. She translated for us and they did! They sang a whole little chant and cheer for us as a thank you which was really fun! We skipped dessert because we were so full but I definitely would be up for some if we return again. All in all I feel it was the perfect pre race marathon carb load and I'm happy to have dined here after foregoing our other two a bit fancier dining options. Brauhaus Georgbräu is a really warm, friendly and fun place with substantial food. I felt it was a very fitting meal to enjoy while in Germany and would happily recommend it to you. You'll also really enjoy walking around nearby, it's a very pretty area. read more

Needed a bier after a day at German History Museum and this came up via Yelp. I think it's a biergarten operated by a smaller / less known brewery. Not sure, however I did like the bier here quite a lot. Although we didn't eat here, there was a large group of older locals. One fellow ordered the pork knee which looked quite good. This brewery/drinking/eating hall has an envious location on the river Spree. (See photo below) The inside is pretty nice too, smells of brewing! The food here is a little bit expensive to my mind, but having partaken, I can assure you of its quality. Here take a look. (See photo below) There were a few beers available. As you can see above, I opted for a small glass of their dunkel and a small glass of their hell. The dark beer was definitely interesting, but I preferred the light, refreshing hell. Would probably have been worth a 5 if it had been a little less expensive. read more

Backstory: I've decided German beer is not interesting. Out of the good amount of German beer I had on my one week trip I thought these guys' was the most interesting. Still not American microbrew or anything, but it had more flavor than many other German brews. The schnitzel was tasty. The goulash was good but the meat was a little over cooked. Plenty of food. We almost didn't get a table cause the whole place was booked for some party, but the waitress squeezed us in - so two thumbs up to her! Great spot to Stop for lunch when you're near museum island that doesn't feel overly touristy. It was clean, had nice shaded areas and wasn't covered in cigarette smoke like most local places. Our server was hilarious and gave great service. I had the sausage and my husband had the salted ribs. Definitely felt like a German brew house. It is a bit overpriced, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. A big bottle of water was 6€! And there's a lady trying to collect money for tips at the bathroom... but at least the bathrooms were clean. read more

This is the restaurant that I take all our visitors. The location is beautiful. I've always had reasonable service, sometimes a little german: cold at first then warms up... I like their beer, it's better than average. I also like that you see their brewing set up in the dining area and the open fermentors downstairs. There is a lot of outdoor seating and indoors in comfortable (even with a stroller). But the reason I go there is the food. I like the potato soup with wurst. The schnitzel is nice. But the gulasch is fantastic. read more

I just got back a week ago from a trip to Europe, and my favorite beer on the trip was from Brauhaus Georgbraeu! We later went to Augustiner Keller and Hofbrauhaus in Munich, but I still prefer the Georgbraeu beer. When we first arrived, it took us a few minutes to find a waiter and get seated. It wasn't too packed when we arrived and in fact, the atmosphere was not at all what I expected. We were seated at a booth inside and it had a cozy/homey feeling to it. We ordered a traditional German dish-- the pork knuckle that came with stewed peas, sauerkraut, and potatoes. All for 9.99 Euros and it included one 0.2 liter glass of beer. It was plenty to feed the both of us! We also ordered another 0.2 liter glass of beer so we tried both the pale and the dark beer. How I wish I could have more now! I really enjoyed the beer, but I was too full at the time to drink more. I'll definitely go back if I'm ever back in Berlin and see if it's as great as I remember. =) read more

Brauhaus is a great little find on the banks of the river Spree and between the Spittlmarkt U bahn (10 mins walk) and Alexanderplatz stop. A giant beer hall, multi roomed casual dining restaurant and a micro brewery on site, Brauhaus is the first place I visit when I arrive as it really gets you in the mood for a weekend in Germany with giant pitches of beers, amazing traditional hearty German fodder and staff that although always look a bit annoyed at serving us Brits always turn out to be quite jolly in the end. The pitches of beer are great value at €18 each and they'll even split it half and half between their in house brewed blonde and dark beers! If you make it to Brauhaus then you're in a lovely little "chocolate boxey" area of Berlin with loads of great dining options, quaint little shops and traditional Germanic architecture - a million miles from the commercial and chainy centre of Alexanderplatz down the road. Just one tip about Brauhaus and Berlin as a whole - they really don't like big groups of Brits on holiday. There was 25 of us and although a lot of places were empty and our group was the least threatening bunch of people you could find it still was a struggle to get good places that wanted us in. I had a taste for beer on my last afternoon in Berlin and so headed to Brauhaus Georgrau after reading the recommendation in the Rough Guide book. The Brauhaus is in a great location on the banks of the Spree and close to Spittlemarkt U Bahn station. It was busy but we managed to get a table so that we could eat too. I had the pork schnitzel with vegetables which was tasty. I had one of their brews which was good but not the best I tasted in Berlin. Very close to St. Nicholas' Church and a mandatory stop to me. They are a brewery too. The pitcher is so cheap you have to try. Very nice menu with lots of traditional local food. The service is veeeery quick, so quick that I thought if everything was cooked enough haha It was! The food was delicious and they served us loads of food. I regret to ordered a starter that was too big so I couldn't finish my goulash. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Great place! They make their own perfect beer and offer big eisbein with sour cabbage and small beer only for 10 euro.

Haven't tried any dishes but their beer is great and the place is all right. Privileged location by the river in the Nikolaiviertel. Big tables, plants, beach umbrellas, you get the picture. The dark beer (which is actually red; it's not a stout or anything) is just delicious and you could be having one right after the other. Which you effectively can, thanks to all the staff going around. The inside of the place looks great too: wooden, with the typical smell of a German brewery. A fantastic haven just two blocks away off the beaten path. Would definitely recommend. read more

I simply loved this brewery-bar along the banks of the river Spree in Berlin. We just found it by accident walking around Alexanderplatz one day, looking to get out of the heat of the day. Their locally produced pilsner is one of the best beers you can get in Berlin. The only problem, is that it's a bit tricky to find, unless you happen by it, like we did, by accident. read more

Sometimes (often ??) hard to find a place to sit, as it seems very popular. Definitely a somewhat noisy and a bit crowded gasthaus along the Spree River, as opposed to a more formal restaurant, so take the ambiance that you get. Some interesting things on the menu (see pic). The Kassler Braten vom Nacken was a wonderful marinated baby back-rib chunk with a *lot* of meat on it. There are also a host of other gasthaus staples on the menu to choose from, and we did not find a single disappointment. Prices are on the low(er) side for Berlin, especially along the river. read more

Awesome location in the Nikolaiviertel right on the Spree river. Consistently good food and decent beer. I noticed that many reviews speak so highly of the beer here, but I'm not that impressed as it is a bit too sweet for me. It's good as in how bad can german beer really be, but I'm not a fan. So have a few smaller beers to wash down the great food and go drinking elsewhere. My favorite here to eat is the Schweinehaxe. You have to "love animals" as in "they taste good" to enjoy a Schweinehaxe as it's a bit of a caveman meal. Better here than many I've devoured in Deutschland over the past 30+ years as it comes with a nice sauce and some potatoes and kraut. read more

This restaurant has a great view of the river nearby but the outdoor seating fills up fast and closes early by Berlin standards - around 9pm. This is a menu with a lot of heavy food. The schnitzel I had was top notch and the bratwurst just about put my friend into a food coma. Germany is a lot heavy food. You were warned. Lastly, their own brewed beer is very good. I usually have a dark beer, a dunkel, if available, and this one was very good. If you can get an outdoor seat I really recommend this place but you'll have to be patient as this is Berlin time. read more

For fine local beer and authentic German cuisine you could do a lot worse that this place. The beer is brewed in-house and essentially you have a choice of dark or light wheat beer - both are excellent but the light wins the day. The food is hearty rustic German fare which means little by way or refinement, but bold flavours and plenty of it. The speciality is the Eisbin, an excellent pig's knuckle simply teaming with lovely meat, served with schnapps and more of that lovel beer. read more
