Seasonal dish with mushrooms, potatoes and bacon
    Lauriane B.

We went to Brauhaus Joh. Albrecht with four other guests for their last night in Hamburg and we wanted them to taste German dishes. We booked a table for 9pm. They took a while to take our order but the dishes went pretty fast. The dishes were what we expected and quite good. Then, we waited 30 minutes to order some desserts but they never came to ask, so we had to get up and ask them. After taking our order, they came back to tell us that the kitchen was closing so they couldn't serve us desserts. Hopefully, after repplied them that we waited 30 minutes for them to come and take our order, they agreed on doing it. The dishes were quite expensive regarding the service and the only thing they asked, was if we wanted to let a tip...

This place is well worth a visit if you are in Hamburg and fancy some nice beer, in a lovely setting along with really good food too. We visited in December and the decorations on the brewing kit (yes they brew their own beer here!) and the rest of the restaurant was lovely. Menus are also in English and the food is typical German fayre done very well. Definitely try this place out.

They were super busy when we arrived but managed to give us a table. We ordered quickly and the food came out surprisingly fast as well! I had the salmon, it's was so tasty! Definitely going back next time I'm in Hamburg.

If you want authentic and well cooked german cuisine and a delicious in house brewed beer, look no further. This is the place. Classical german brew house ambiance that at least we love when we are in Germany. Classical dishes that everyone who has been to Germany recognize. The pumpkin and ginger soup with sesame seeds was real comfort food and would have been even better a cold and rainy autumn evening but was still great this sunny day. Creamy texture and wonderful balance between the pumpkin and ginger. Since it was chantarelle season (pfifferlinge) they had some nice dishes that highlighted that ingredient. The "Flammkuche" wich is sort of a thin crust bread with cheese, bacon, creme fraiche and chantarelles was also supertasty. Big enough to share and a great deal at 10 €. The veal wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes was amazing and came (as usual) with a fresh side salad. It was all really really good. My wifes pork knuckle (schweinehaxe) was equally good and she was very happy with it. This is my new no 1 spot for good german food in Hamburg and i have been there +15 times and tried a lot af restaurants.

I enjoyed a lunch here with some coworkers. The environment is really nice, it looks like a typical German restaurant. The location is really good, basically in the city center, you can easily reach it from the U-Bahn. The quality of food was good, I took a "Jägerschnitzel". Unfortunately, the service was a bit low. They took more than 30 mins to deliver the dishes...

Great place for German food close to everything in Hamburg. We had two people get the pork shank for dinner and it was excellent (a little fatty). The beer was good and the prices were good. Great value for the money. I would definitely recommend if you are spending any time in Hamburg.

Really good wholesome meal. Plenty of home grown German options to choose from. Always feel slightly uncomfortable with the staff- may be my issue since I don't speak fluent German. Sit where you want which is nice. Nice spacious restaurant and they have their own beer selection.

Please go here to sample some excellent food and beer. A hidden gem in the centre of Hamburg.

The atmosphere is cozy traditional. It's down a few steps from the street level and you enter a somewhat dark, candle lit dining area. The tables and seating seem to be an eclectic collection that work well together. My server was prompt and I ordered a "Jever" pilsner beer to start. She brought over an English menu and made some suggestions. I took her suggestion for "Pork medallions with button mushrooms ala creme and fried potatoes". This was three thick slices of pork tenderloin. This and the potatoes were delicious and a very generous portion. Enough for two meals, but I ate it all anyway. :) I wanted a somewhat traditional German-style meal and I believe that I got it. :) Cheers.

The bowl portion came with an entire smoked sausage and was a large portion. The rump steak was as good as it can be. The beef remoulade was not rolled but thin sliced cold beef served with some onions and a mild horse radish sauce. My companion enjoyed the herring plate. Four types of herring. All served with fried potatoes family style.

We were only in town for a few hours, but when we found out they had them we decided we would devote day's visit to Franziskaner. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They helped us work through ordering, as finding these delights on the menu can be tricky for an English speaker. Our server was an absolute delight, though, and he helped us find them and place an order with the amount we wanted (can we order 100 please?). We also ordered a sample of sausages featuring 4 different kinds. And, of course, BEER! Giant liters full. We were able to try two different kinds and they were delish. Our server was also great conversation and gave us info about other things in the area that were worth seeing, too. Let me tell you about that sausage though! We make our own at home, and we make it a point to order sausages everywhere we go. We're fans. Every single one of their sausages was drop dead delicious. Perfect textures, no graininess, delicate, with snap where it should have snap. All the flavors of each were perfection. And the Nurnbergs tasted just like the ones we'd had in Nuremberg 7 years ago. It was such a delight. P.S. their sauerkraut was the best I've had IN. MY. LIFE. The interior was perfect, too. Traditional Bavarian style, cozy wooden booths with pillows, beautiful checkered blue and white curtains. And CLEAN beautiful bathrooms!! When we visited the toilets we realized there was a whole dining area above where we'd dined, so they can accommodate some crowds for sure! I am so glad we made the effort and spent all our time that day there. They took care of us completely and I would return 100% the next time we're in Hamburg. Definitely worth it!
