Hoooooooooooo boy where to start. THIS IS THE PLACE!!!…read more Man this place is super cute AND reasonably priced. We got a room pretty late last night because a friend and I took a last minute road trip. We did not think it would be hard to get a room here, but every pace we called was sold out. I called at 930pm and she came downstairs and met me at the desk to give us her last cabin. We had the school house cabin which is one queen bed but hey, beggars can't be choosers. The cabin is really cute and they al have their own air conditioner and I presume a fan. According to google, this place was built in 1929 and I don't know if she bought it or was passed down through the years. Because she isn't serving breakfast, we got a goody bag filled with items for 2 people which is above and beyond in my book. She gave me a bunch of info about the town as I checked in. If we had gotten here earlier and it wasn't down pouring, we probably would have made use of the fire pits. The shower....... sweet baby jeebus there is water pressure. If you've ever seen the Seinfeld episode where Kramer buys the black market high pressure shower head, that's how it comes out. I mean my god did it spray. Even my clothes on the floor were damp. Word to the wise, start with the cold water and the. The hot water. I am going to come back here at some point with my family and I'm going to stay right here. It's a shame there aren't more reviews because this place is underrated on Yelp.

I would really recommend this place to anyone that is staying in this small town.

Bring water shoes and a picnic and let the kids explore the creek. As a child, I spent hours walking up and down a similar creek with my cousins. This is a great place to make memories. It was just my hubby and I, so we walked along the river about a mile to the small waterfall and fresh springs and the cute downtown area (several food and drink options here). There is a mammoth park (we did not go) and the awesome Wind Cave National Park nearby. We enjoyed the frozen margaritas and great Mexican food at Jalapenos Grill. The motel needs bigger towels but was clean. It's not the Ritz, but the creek makes it a great stay if you don't mind a motel). I waded in the creek on the way back and we sat on a bench and watched a momma deer and her two fawns eating on the far bank. A nice Ammish family invited us to share dessert, but we were too full to accept. What a lovely spot.

We were there in the off season, so it was pretty quiet in the hotel. I think there was one other room rented out. No hotel staff, it's run like an Airbnb and you're given the entry code by text. We did not mind this at all, it felt secluded and romantic! The spa rooms were really cool! I LOVED the sand room! I wish we'd known they do massages; I would have booked some for us, but maybe they don't offer those in the off-season. The downtown location is awesome, it's so close to restaurants, bars, and Moccasin Springs. We will absolutely stay here again!!

Stayed here for 4 wonderful nights (checked in on Sunday of Memorial weekend)…read more Booked this location 3 months in advance because: * We wanted to park our motorcycles outside of our room on the first level (room 118) * Picked a newly remodeled room * Location in Southern Black Hills * Location in Hot Springs itself Phil (the owner) is a former Southern Californian resident & his kindness is truly amazing. Yes, there is construction going on at the property- which operates during usual Mondo- Friday business hours. There's a total of 35 rooms & I can't remember how many rooms have been remodeled. We absolutely love the overhead shower. Hot water is quick and the pressure is amazing. Beds are super cozy. No cooler pots in the room- bit Springs Coffee has great hours. If need be- there's a Keurig in the laundry mat w/ some vending machines. You can even get a roll of quarters charged to your room. Hot Springs is such a nice pace away from city life. You can step out from your room & just watch the river flow by. You can spot deer casually roaming the streets or even the nearby hills. Since no closets are available, it'd be nice to have some coat hooks on the walls.

As of May 2023 the motel is under NEW OWNERSHIP, which is why they are undergoing construction. I stayed in one of their 3 cabins. The cabin is immediately next to the motel, right on the main thoroughfare. I was very surprised at how adorable the cabin looked on first viewing. There is a cute porch complete with Adirondack chairs. There is a screen door to allow for fresh air. Three windows in the front room and a ceiling fan ensure that those sleeping in the front bunk beds stay cool. The little sofa has a chaise lounge. A section out to make the couch turn into a larger bed area. There is also a TV on a high shelf. On the other side of the front room there is a table with two benches. The little kitchenette includes the smallest bar sink, a decent sized miniature refrigerator, microwave, and a few plates. There was a portable heater. There is a bedroom door with the old-fashioned lock system. Inside is a queen bed, bathroom vanity and sink with hair dryer, a small dresser, a nightstand, and a TV on a bracket. There was also an air conditioner! Then I noticed some less than desirable traits. The cabins are not handicap accessible. Each one has steps. The shower had a somewhat permanent leak leading to some small spots of black mold. The1 in drawer in the kitchen requires you to first open the refrigerator door, only then can you open it. The a.c. filter needed to be changed. The unit spit small dust particles out onto the one bed pillow. The bed had a worn side and a side that felt new.

When I arrived I informed the front desk again that I had a service dog and he tried to tell me that the room I booked was not pet friendly. When I showed him how I booked through expedia and had the pet friendly option chosen, he told me that it was my responsibility to call the hotel after the booking to confirm the room was pet friendly. He asked me what services my dog performed at which point I disclosed to him and I told him that either way, since my dog was a service animal it was not relegated to a pet friendly room, at which point he told me that I was a liar that it was not a service dog and that service dogs are, in fact, required to be in pet friendly rooms. He also demanded that I was required to have certification papers for him. Both of these are in fact incorrect.

First, the hospitality and management are down to earth. Very friendly and were able to answer all our questions. They have a small store with some basics.. mustard, ketchup, and beer to name a few items. Very friendly. Second, the campsite was very reasonable considering full hookups and pull through. The campsites do share water, meaning one main water faucet that is split between two campsites. The pressure isn't a problem at all. Our problem was that my camper's water was on the front left of the camper. Given the sharing, my original 20 or so foot water hose couldn't reach. Our fault for not having an extension, but we ended up having to park the other way with the camper to hook up the water. Bottom line: we are newbie campers, so just make sure you have an extension. Lesson learned. They do have a cool little lake/pond that offers fishing and swimming as well as boat rentals. Water is clear and they have it sectioned off to prevent swimming too deep. Finally, you are within 5 or so minutes of Cold Brook Reservoir, an Army Corp of Engineers recreation area. They have a super nice beach, and facilities there. You are also within minutes of the cool little town of Hot Springs. If you are looking for a cool and out of the way campground with all the amenities, check this place out!

After calling through the hotels list on yelp, we hit this one that actually had a room, and for an unbelievably reasonable rate, given that all the other hotels in town were full because of the Miss SD Pageant. Our hostess was lovely and walked us through two units so we could decide which one we wanted. She made personally sure we had everything we wanted and that we had people to contact if we needed things later on. She gave us an extremely flexible checkout time, so we were able to sleep in considerably after the crazy night we had at the reception! My partner and I both love kitsch, and he and I were not disappointed here. It was delightfully cozy and cute, and while not modern, it reminds you a little of your grandma's house. The sulfur smell of the hot springs permeates the living spaces, but that's really just the town in general. The beds were a little rough on my back, but I have arthritis issues, so this is pretty typical of hotels in general for me. Would have preferred a queen bed, but wasn't a huge deal at all. We didn't use the shower, so no information on that, but the bathroom itself was very clean like the rest of the space. Would absolutely stay here again.
