Poor communication. They got the dates wrong on the reservation. We go try and check in. No answer left message. Never got a confirmation so we could verify dates first problem. Next day got a text room is ready. Immediately told them dates were wrong and we had to find someplace else to stay. She acknowledged the receipt of text. I thought it was resolved the next day I get a charge for both nights. At very least we should get the second night since they knew over 24 hours that we're not coming. The other night because we were there- we were trying to fulfill reservation we made. Joe was rude. He initially said right dates the took it back when I was getting upset. We decided to do a little staycation and pop down to Hot Springs for the weekend. My husband found this place and I'm so glad he did! We were there in the off season, so it was pretty quiet in the hotel. I think there was one other room rented out. No hotel staff, it's run like an Airbnb and you're given the entry code by text. We did not mind this at all, it felt secluded and romantic! The spa rooms were really cool! I LOVED the sand room! I wish we'd known they do massages; I would have booked some for us, but maybe they don't offer those in the off-season. The downtown location is awesome, it's so close to restaurants, bars, and Moccasin Springs. We will absolutely stay here again!! read more

The customer service at this place is pathetic. I tried to switch dates of a reservation I made a mistake on there website page. Note there was still 6-7 rooms available. It's not like I reserved the last one or something. Guy said no you made it your stuck with it! Then had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to make another reservation on the correct date I said I'm not gona stay here after you not even trying to help me out. So I lost $209 and they bought themselves some true negative reviews. Stay away from this place. They don't deserve your biz. Pathetic excuse of a hotel. read more

My husband and I booked room 209 at Red Rock River Resort. As soon as we got to our room my husband started feeling like he couldn't take a deep breath and developed a cough. We thought it could have been due to the heat and how heavy the air felt on the second floor, where the rooms are located. The sauna rooms are on the same floor as the rooms and the whole second floor was extremely warm. Soon after my husband started having symptoms I started having trouble taking a deep breath and my chest felt tight. We ended up leaving the hotel after an hour of being there and had to book another hotel. The owners were unwilling to give us our money back. My husband and I both travel a lot for work and kids sports and we have never had to change hotels. I would highly recommend staying away from this hotel! read more

We had a great time here. Room was great. It's not exactly like a hotel. Check in is AFTER 2 pm, and they will text you when your room is ready. We spent 2 days exploring the area. All rooms are are the second floor, no elevator. The second floor has a big common area with large fridge, microwave, and other amenities. Lage couches and chairs for just relaxing and reading if you want. Second floor has a spa area with heated rooms, sauna and a hot tub. read more

This is a beautiful and quirky hotel. If you're looking for a regular hotel vibe, book a room at a chain hotel but if you're looking for something quaint and casual... this is your place. The building itself is a labor of love. It's a bit rundown but that's what gives its charm. The room we stayed in had character. The bed was very comfortable. Our stay was everything we wanted. Joe and Julie were our hosts and they were very nice and accommodating. We didn't use any of the spa features this time around but we look forward to staying there again. read more

We stayed here just one night passing thru the area. This is a $175 a night room. The A/C is a very small window unit and could not cool the room. It continually formed ice and made a terrible racket. As you can see from the photos the room is dated, worn and dirty. I would never stay again or recommend. read more

Red Rock River Resort has a restaurant called: The Steak House & Bistro. I went there last night and had their buffalo steak. It was one of the best steaks I've had. It was truly tender and well prepared. The asparagus and potatoes accompanying my steak were both prepared and seasoned to perfection. They have recently opened back up since Covid and are not easily to find on yelp so that's why I'm writing this to help get the word out. We called and they said yes are open. We went there for dinner and the food and service was awesome! We did not stay there but I have stayed there before and the rooms are older but very nice. I am at Stay USA this weekend but I would much prefer to stay at this hotel ! Next time for sure! I think it is new management and they are sure trying hard to build the business back up again. We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights during our time in the black hills. We enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and had comfortable furniture. We slept well and thought the beds were comfortable. I usually hate the towels in hotels because they are so thin. In this hotel, the towels were thick and plush which made me happy. no ac on second floor common area. this is where a refrigerator is and a coffee maker. the room has a small window ac that does not cool the room. we went down to lobby at 2 am to see if we could get ac to blow cold or change rooms. not a sole around, no one answers phone. at 8am the next morning after sleeping in a hot room there was still no one around. went for coffee across street and still no one at hotel around 9 am. we left and checked in to another hotel. stay away from red rock river resort they will not credit us for the 3 nights that we did not stay there. they commented back on google and said "we did not have ac set correctly". pretty sure we know what an ac set at 60 degrees should feel like, no apologie no refund. stay away from this hotel. read more

We stayed here at the Red Rock River Resort for two nights in April of 2019, we had hors d'oeuvres the first night with cocktails in the bistro and the service was terrific and the company was even better. The second night we had dinner with hors d'oeuvres, we had artichoke spinach dip that was to die for delicious! We each had a hamburger for dinner which were two different ones off the menu that offered many many varying options to choose from of Black Angus beef that was absolutely to die for! I almost went a star lower because Red Rock operates far below its potential. The enclosed restaurant is only open two days a week. They don't even bother turning on the lights in the reception area. Yes, when business isn't bustling, I understand cutting back, but don't cut away a client's sense of a relaxing, invigorating spa experience. I received an hour-long massage that included for free what had been advertised as $10 add-ons, such as aromatherapy and tuning forks. (Yeah, I'm not totally sold on them, but they're still fun.) They also didn't charge for access to the sand room or the heated tile room. I loved the sand room, but wouldn't have paid extra money to sit in it for five minutes. Overall, the amenities are high quality and the providers are professionals. At first, I didn't like paying before I received services, but that meant when I got something extra, they weren't going to charge me any more money. I'd love to read more reviews of this spa from clients who go during the busy season. read more

We visited this resort on our honeymoon and it was pretty fantastic. After a few long days of driving across the country we were really happy to relax in our huge room and king size bed. Some of my favorite things: Friendly and helpful staff Double shower Spa w/ massage, hot tub, sauna etc.. Blue Vervain Restaurant - really awesome food but we heard the chef is leaving and heading to another state Huge comfy king size bed Free wireless internet Great location The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 was the actual massage. I didn't really feel like the therapist was that great but that may be coming from my spoiled Portland side. Echoing someone else, I'm a pretty relaxed person, but this hotel is NOT newly remodeled. Newer TVs, but everything else is old - mattresses, furniture, bedding, etc. The extra spa part was a ripoff for me. Message chairs are not included, hot tub had bubble wrap on top, and heated sand & stone rooms didn't work. Don't waste an extra $10. And yes, no one works the desk from 8 pm to 8 am. Like? Really? Besides the spa pissing me off, the Wi-Fi did not work in the hotel rooms, just the front desk area. Like. It's 2016 everyone. Get it fixed. Don't tell me it's the sandstone. Don't advertise then. The town is basically a veterans' service town. There is little to do in town besides the dig site and things look rundown in general. And yes, it was the nicest place in town. I would of rather stayed in my car at rest stop instead of wasting $120. read more

Unfortunately there is not one positive comment I can leave. It was in the high 80's when we arrived and our room must have been 90. We turned on the little air conditioning unit, which was too small for the room and held in the window by two pieces of foam and never cooled down the room. They advertise having down pillows and comforters and WIFI, none of which are true. Common sense dictates that if there are only 2 rooms booked that you put your guests in the rooms without the sun beating in heating the rooms to sauna temps, maybe this is where spa part comes in. Too expensive for the extremely lackluster experience. When I booked the room, the amenities included internet and breakfast. Those were both lies. Check-in was ridiculously old school, with a man sitting at a hostess stand, searching for my reservation printed out. No information about anything other than to point out a key on the ring for the front door of the hotel. In the morning there wasn't a soul to be found for information on food or coffee. You know, I really feel that this "Resort", is a 3.5, but in the interest of keeping their ratings up, I'm giving it a 4 star. So, Mr. Astrid S. and I had been on the road for about a month, camping mostly, and had done about 7K miles, all told, and needed some R&R. There we were, driving through Nebraska, and pulled out the Yelp phone app, hoping to find someplace decent to sleep, indoors, in Hot Springs. Well, lo and behold, here it was, Red Rock River Resort. Wow!! This is amazing. I click on the website, while I had the 3G, and took a look. They claimed they had a day-use spa, akin to the Korean spas I have used many times, beautifully appointed rooms, massage and they had a cute little Espresso bar. It also said on the map, that they had a restaurant, but it didn't mention this on the website. All this for $135 a night? Deal. Well, it's $115 per couple, but they add a "$10 Spa use fee" per day per couple. So I thought, "this will do nicely." We pull up in this rundown town- most every store front was empty, the lone stray dog running the street, a river running through town, and I believe a few tumble weeds. OK, need to find this "resort". We round the corner, and there it was- with this freakishly weird (think silence of the lambs, where you see the heads and other objects in the storage site part) in the store front window, with a mannequin staring out, wearing a dusty robe with the "resort" logo on it. We enter the old 1970's doors, and see the "resort". Now, let's say that you can tell they are trying, but really? It seems that they were in the middle of remodeling or modeling the place, and they either ran out of money, or just quit caring. On first glance, a trained eye like I believe I have, saw dust, old furniture, holes where they needed to be filled on walls and door jambs, etc. We were greeted promptly by a perfectly nice woman (perhaps the daughter of the owners?) and given the sales pitch, and we signed up for two nights, because we were just that exhausted. She takes us up the stairs, mentioning that they have no elevator (which is so 1988 isn't it? ADA anyone?), and shows us our room which on first glance was really nice for what we needed. King sized bed, lounge sitting area, and an old tube TV. But the room is quite large, and that was nice. She then takes us to the "spa" area. Well, ok...it's also lacking in finesse and finishing details. The "spa" was literally that- a spa, like you would have in your backyard, a dry sauna, a sand room and a granite room. I mean, after being on the road as long as we had, it all looked inviting, but also a bit of an afterthought. She showed us where the morning coffee would be waiting for us, the common eating area (although no food was offered, nor was the food in this town edible, really), and when I asked about the restaurant on the map on-line, she said they didn't have that anymore. She then took us downstairs, showed us the espresso "bar" which was an long bar, empty of anything but a register, none of the usual espresso or coffee type amenities, and a lot of dust. I do have to say they brew some good coffee from Seattle, which we had several times. They also do tea, but yea, it's just Numi, which you know is decent bagged tea. For a "spa?" Anyway, as I get wordy about this review, here's why I rated it what I did. I would really have given a 3 or 3.5 stars based on the lack of attention, lack of customer service, lack of attendance, lack of finishing details. Oh yea, and we both had massages, and the woman who worked on me told me I got leukemia because it was "God's plan". Yea, great thing to add to the relaxation package. Anyway, it gave us good space to have a good two nights sleep and a room to ourselves. If I was intentionally coming here, I would have been very, very disappointed, but as a pass-through? It was fine. Don't go out of your way to come here, but it's not the worst thing either. Just don't get the massage, unless you want some Jesus preaching and judgement, which sucked. read more

Nice old historical hotel. Rooms are viewable online, good. My room was clean, had sofa, table, tv & wireless. Probably the longest tub in town, I'm 6' and could reach end to end! Friendly staff. Had very good massage in spa section. Improvements: mattress was old and lumpy, pillows were cheap foam, should upgrade linen quality. Also, all the windows were sealed shut, so no fresh air option. My husband and I stayed here for the night as we headed south toward home. The rooms and spa are all on the second floor. We stayed in the Moonlit Springs, which came with a king size bed, micro fridge, couch, TV, and a walk-in shower. The room was clean, comfortable, and nice. We also both got half-hour massages in the spa, which were very relaxing. We used the spa after dinner, which included a heated granite room, a heated sand room, a hot tub, and sauna. Getting spa services isn't something we normally do, so it was a unique and fun experience overall. There is a dining room area and a spacious living room with a large television. You can tell the owners have put a lot of love and time into the place, and the process is an ongoing one for them. read more

We enjoyed watching the third game of the World Series in the common living space on leather couches. Felt like home. I hope to return and will recommend this quaint and comfortable hotel. Stayed 3 nights with 2 teenagers who's first preference was to stay at a larger chain with a pool. Luckily, the chain option did not work out and we all agreed that this hotel made for a better vacation. This place would be a nice choice no matter what city it was in. Even when full, the hotel is quiet and relaxing. The resort is under new ownership as of April. The owners are doing really well with it and are very nice and accommodating. The rooms are very clean with high ceilings and lots of character. The pictures here do not do it justice. We took the spa option and used the hot tub, sand room and granite floor room. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms offer lots of space. The main floor has renovation plans underway and, when done, this will be a beautiful reception/banquet spot. First off, let me start with that I used and trusted lonely planet's USA travel book to help plan out trip to SD. My boyfriend and I are from NY and we are accustomed to a certain lifestyle and type of accommodations, (me more than him). After booking this hotel and reading the reviews I was panicked that I made a huge mistake! My boyfriend reassured me that it would be fine and it was only one night. So we were expecting subpar accommodations due to the majority of the reviews. Our experience was mixed but I would say more on the positive vs the negative. We arrived at 6pm there was a scaffolding in the front of the hotel appearing that work was being done. We walked in and there was a note to ring the bell. We rang it and waited as my boyfriend looked around. The lobby is underwhelming and there was more "construction" around every corner. Honestly I feel like there wasn't any progress just that as a statement/excuse to the appearance. Finally after ringing the bell a second time (~10 minutes later) a man walked down the main stairwell and greeted us. We were charged for the room at this time which is a little odd but it's an individual place so whatever. He got a little overzealous and overcharged us and then reimbursed us right away and apologized for the mistake and was very honest about it (which we appreciated). We added the 10/pp for the spa and he gave us a tour of our room and of the spa. Then he explained that he was the owner that he is not on the property from 8pm until 8/9am but he provided us with his and wife's phone number and there is a night manager as well who checks on things at 10pm. For those reviews that rant and rave about them not being on the property- get over it. You rarely need a hotel person that late at night and if the situation is dire you can call. The spa is modest and there are multiple rooms (sauna-dry, sand room, granite room and a hot tub). The tub is covered with "bubble wrap" but not really it's a thermal blanket to maintain the heat... you are provided with robes in your room for the spa which was nice and there are towels in the spa for use as well. The room was okay, kinda reminded me of a frat/sorority house set up. Could it use updating yeah, the floors are worn and the blinds are old. The TV is a large tube TV but honestly for the price you are getting what you paid for. Our room had the large bathtub which was okay, we didn't. End up using it and it was difficult for someone with my short stature to get in and out but what can you do. There was only one other room booked so the place was very quiet. The town goes dark after 8 so don't expect to find food or entertainment after that which is part of its charm I suppose. We actually spent time together and laughed and talked which was nice vs the usual life distractions. The next morning we left our key on the counter and headed on our way. The bed was comfortable and we slept the best we have in a few days. I'm often grossed out by places like this but I dropped my guard and allowed myself to embrace the small quaint hotel that it is and guess what it was fine. It's not the Ritz and the holiday inn may have been "nicer" but if you are looking for a decent place to stay with some fun spa activities in a cute little town then try Red Rock Resort. read more

I love funky, independent hotels, and from some reviews I read, I thought Red Rock would be that place. Uh, no. Traveling with two friends, we booked a room (costs extra for spa, we didn't do that) for $160/night with 2 queen beds. No cot was available (we asked). No problem. We checked in on a 99-degree July day, went upstairs (no elevator--at least it wasn't available). The room was HOT so I went to pull the blinds to block sun, one of them was broken. Turned the a/c window unit on to high and 10 minutes later, all the power went off. The owner came up to "fix," and 10 min later power went off again. Clearly a wiring problem., which was both scary and, frankly, unbelievable. Also, the room... beds had no headboards, just pillows pushed up against wall where paint was visibly chipping away. Sheets were, um, loose and wrinkled, like they'd already been slept in. Despite being called a "resort/spa," the place had no basic amenities like hair dryer, kleenex, drinking glass, fridge... Wifi didn't work and we asked about that, the owner told us it was because we had Apple products. Seriously??? Why advertise that you're a resort/spa with wifi if you aren't? After power went out second time, the owner told us we were clearly having a bad day and would refund our money. No apologies, but apparently the power outages were our fault?? We were lucky to find a room available in a busy July week at the nearby Super8, where we went happily. Paid $80 for our room with two queen beds. And the power was on. read more
