Once or twice a year they host a members show where any member can submit their craft for show and sale. I've personally had displayed my Indian Bead Weaving hatbands and table rugs. I craft or talent I'd developed when I was a resident of Tubac. But you don't have to live here to be a member. There are members across the country. But residents and members get to see all the openings The center also hosts art shows from all over the country. And some from Mexico as well. They sponsor a summer art program for children. They have live musical performances during the season ( October to April). An integral part of the community I can't remember all the other events they are credited for. I suggest you visit their website for full details. And if you are ever in this area stop by. You'll find lots of local art in the gift shop

Also samples from local artist that will be participating in another annual event, the Open Studio Tour. The center has a gift shop with paintings from still other artists that are local, jewelry, pottery, art books and children books. They have expanded and remodeled with twice the space for exhibitions and some workshops. In one of the rooms the are exhibiting the "Tucson Seven". World famous artist of the west. Spent quite a lot of time enjoying all the art. Makes it very special to see some artist I know and how far there work has progress in the last four years since I've been here. Located in Tubac AZ which is 40 miles south of Tucson and 20 miles north of the Mexican border town of Nogales. Tubac truly is an artist village 1,200 permanent residents and growing. The population doubles and then some with the snow birds. I have had some of my painting in display at this art center.

So we went in and after a few moments an older man came in from the studio, not very polite about it but matter of fact, like why we were there, interrupting his day or something. I brought my stepdaughter, and we were both really excited for a supportive, welcoming learning experience. Instead, we walked into something completely different. Nan, the instructor, seemed unaware of why new people had been showing up for the past two years. No actual class took place. She briefly walked us around the studio, gave a quick 10-minute demo, and then left us entirely on our own. When we tried to ask questions, she was passive-aggressive, dismissive, and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was clear the environment was geared toward experienced potters, not beginners. The class was supposed to run from 10am to 1pm, but there was no structured instruction at all. Everyone else in the room knew exactly what they were doing, while we were left confused and ignored. For $90 USD, this was incredibly disappointing. My stepdaughter and I had been looking forward to learning -- instead, we felt talked down to, unsupported, and eager to leave. If you're a beginner or hoping for an actual class, I strongly recommend going elsewhere.
