They would show me papers he'd torn up and pictures of his messy desk and then pull out 5 page long papers he'd written brilliantly and tell me, "He's clearly capable, but just doesn't care." Other schools would tell me how he's so kind to the other students, especially those getting bullied, and then he'd come home in tears because of how he saw others being treated - by teachers and students alike - and I could feel how isolated he felt. Now he runs a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with 4 other students on the weekends and their laughter fills our home. Now he's a peer mentor and helps resolve disputes, at a student level, when they arise. Now his teachers tell me how amazing and intuitive his questions are, how funny he can be, and how dedicated he is when he finds a topic that really interests him. My son comes home now and tells me about his day. My daughter wantsto go to school and pretends notto be sick sometimes, in the hopes I won't keep her home. I feel like Kino is all the best of what homeschooling is, but with teachers better than I could be at this point in my life. I don't feel as though I'm failing every morning when I drop them off at the front door. I feel, instead, that even when we can't do family dinners or I'm so busy with other obligations I barely see them for several days in a row - I feel like, it's okay because I'm doing something right. Arguably the biggest thing I can do right for them at this age.

First, the ladies in the front office are amazing. Throughout the years, whenever my children or I have gone through a difficult situation or needed help, they have always been understanding, caring, patient, and willing to help. I truly appreciate everything they do for the students and families. I especially want to recognize Mr. Bugg the 8th-grade Math and Science teacher. He is an incredible teacher and made a huge impact on my daughter. The knowledge and strong foundation in math that she received from him prepared her tremendously for high school. She is doing well today because of what she learned in his classroom. As a mother, I appreciate a teacher who expects students to work hard. I believe that discipline, respect, responsibility, and knowledge are important, even when it may feel challenging for the kids at the time. Mr. Bugg teaches all of these things while making sure his students truly learn and are prepared for what comes next. Not every teacher has that level of dedication and commitment. Teachers like Mr. Bugg should be recognized because they are helping shape our children's futures. Our children may not always realize it today, but one day they will understand how much a great teacher contributed to their success. I am extremely grateful that my daughter had the opportunity to be one of Mr. Bugg students. Pretty ridiculous experience this morning. I dropped kids off at Academy of Math and Science and…read morethere were already around 20 students standing outside, so naturally they wanted to get out and join the other kids. Apparently, because it was a few minutes before 7:15, the school called their mom and warned her that next time she could be charged a fee for an early drop-off. I completely understand having rules and designated supervision times, but threatening parents with a charge when there's already a crowd of students outside over a matter of a few minutes feels unnecessarily petty. A simple reminder of the policy would have been more than enough. There's a difference between enforcing a safety policy and making families feel like they're being nickel-and-dimed. Definitely left a bad impression. Get it together
