Everyone we met staff, parents, and students was friendly and respectful. The gym was clean, bright, and well maintained, which made for a good experience all around. The experience that both of my children have had at the school has been life-changing for them and for us. My 3rd grader, who was struggling in K-2, felt so welcomed. The teachers and the administration care so much about these kids. And the way that they teach, makes the kids absolutely love going to school. There are a lot of projects that allow the kids to apply their learning in real life situations. My then 3rd grader graduated last year and was extremely prepared for high school and is getting all As at a prestigious private scho Another thing that stands out for me about WNS is that the kids learn how to work things out with each other, how to communicate with each other and to teachers; the kids are able to have mature conversations with each other when things don't go as expected. I just love the school so much...

My kids attended 3rd Street Elementary, and I agree with many of the reviews here…read more One thing I noticed was that the principal and assistant principal seemed much friendlier and more welcoming to families who donated a lot of money to the school. My kids attended through the PALS program, and afterward they were supposed to return to their home school. I noticed that some students were allowed to stay, and from what I saw, many of those families were active donors. One of my children really wanted to stay. She was well-behaved, did well in school, and had no behavioral issues, but she wasn't given the opportunity. I never really understood why. I also felt that if you appeared wealthy, the staff--including the administration--treated you differently. They were never outright rude, but they often came across as dismissive if you didn't look like you had money. Many of the staff also seemed conceited and superficial, and it often felt like appearances and financial contributions mattered more than anything else. That was my personal experience. That said, there were definitely positives. The teachers were kind to my kids, and the campus is very clean and well maintained. The school offers more enrichment programs than many other public schools, has an active PTA, and provides a lot of opportunities for students. There are also many open enrollment spots, likely because many families in the neighborhood choose private schools instead. Since it's a Korean Dual Language school, I did notice that many of the open enrollment spots seemed to go to Korean families, which makes sense given the program. If your child has an IEP, I had a positive experience with the special education program through second grade. The support my children received was good. My only complaint was that the IEP administration changed every year, so we often had to start over with new administrators who weren't familiar with my child's needs. Overall, I think it's a good school with a lot to offer. My biggest criticism is that it often felt like families who donated, volunteered heavily, or appeared more affluent received more attention and opportunities than others. While my children had kind teachers and a positive experience in many ways, I didn't always feel that all families were treated equally.

She has the absolute balls to yell at a person across the room. How do I know that? Because I asked a kid in rm 15 if Mrs. Yoon was nice, and 7 kids said that she was very unfriendly and dismissive. I just don't know how to explain her. I asked a kid and he said that he got in trouble because he says "uh-" shortly. And pretty much Ms.Cha is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. If you have read the book "Wonder" by R.J palacio, you know Julian, charming parents while being evil to Auggie. Ms.Cha is LITERALLY AUGGIE. Also bye the way, just don't let your kids come to this school

I…read morehonestly didn't even know this school existed but it's an underground gem-- mainly shared and known by word of mouth. Our two kids are in the dual language program and we've been astounded by the quality of the teachers (most have tenures of 10+ years), the extra curricular classes (art, science, gardening, innovation lab) and the parent community. Plus the classes are under 20 kids each and the campus is huge with lots of green space. It's such a local treasure.

Our son is now in 2nd grade and after 2 years at the school in the dual language (Spanish immersion) program, we are thrilled to have made this choice for our family! We love the teachers and the close-knit community. This is a small school of approximately 350 students TK-6th so the best part is that we really get to know each other. This is an incredible experience to have this true neighborhood feel within this sprawling city. The parent community is incredibly engaged and we've been able to add programs like visual arts & a brand new music program for every single child at the school. There are after school offerings like LA's Best plus afterschool enrichment classes, Girls on the Run, HawksLA, and other occasional offerings like ukulele or Folklorico dance. Our new principal, Ms. Salcedo has been an absolute pleasure and everyone is very enthusiastic about her leadership at our school. If you drive past the school you'll see beautiful murals, including an Eric Junker. A sweet Enrich LA Garden where the kiddos have gardening classes. Our massive green field - aka "the lawn" is a beautiful sight to behold within the concrete jungle of Los Angeles AND plans are on the tracks for many more greening initiatives that will only improve the already sweet school. We are so grateful for this school and the community. It has become the heartbeat of Atwater Village for us and look forward to at least 4 more years at this awesome school. Parents dedicate a lot of time and money into the school and it really shows through with the extra staff and programs that the school is able to support. Ivanhoe is actually one of the lowest funded schools in the LAUSD but you would never know it upon visiting. They have beloved events like the IvanhoeDown, the Holiday Market, the Hoops Classic, Art Night, and The Ivanhoe Social. It's a very well rounded school with a lot of community involvement and solid educational foundations. I've had one daughter go through Ivanhoe already, one son currently attending, and another son that will be in TK in a couple years. I wouldn't choose another school if given an option!! The fact is, the teachers and staff at this school are tired and not taking the children's needs at this school seriously. If there are complaints of bullying, the staff should listen and investigate. But the principal did not, She has a LONG LIST of bad boys and girls and still insists there is no bullying at her school! She insisted THE child Not on the bad kid list is the problem!? Complete denial... only when we threatened contacting a lawyer did she take any action. And in the meantime making the Childern suffer as many parents clearly spoke out. Another note: if your child starts to fall behind and they will, with the lack of teaching in teachers. They will not care! They do not inform parents but instead ignore the duties they are responsible for. A Warning about Ivanhoe Elementary, and the principal! Don't move to the neighborhood for this school!
