I cannot rave enough about Finkley Down Farm. I don't even have kids I can use as an excuse - I…read moresimply come here to relax and spend some time with the animals. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful and the abundance of cute greedy animals desperate for you to feed them is nothing short of delightful. Their animals range from goats and sheep to chickens to cows right over to the more unusual llamas and highland cows. Even if you're not into getting close to the animals or feeding them the buckets of food available at the ticket office, just watching them mooch around is still fun and relaxing. The llama took somewhat of a disliking to me (was it something I said?) and stormed at me, looking like it could easily clear the fence and gain its freedom. I wasn't going to hang around to find out. One look at my pathetic retreating hide running off into the distance was enough to reduce its anger to mere disdain, and instead he decided to spit all over me. In some sort of random heroic act, the pig sharing its pen flung itself at the llama as if to take the blow for me, and rather than reflect on the llama soaking I'd been given, I instead watched this pig take one for the team. Right in the eye, no less. From hereonin, I shall name this pig SuperPig. If you do have kids you can pretend are the reason for visiting, there's plenty to keep them occupied. Other than the animals you can feed, there are talks and handling sessions with some of the smaller or baby pets throughout the day. There's also a nice adventure playground and a couple of trampolines to wear them out on too. There's a small gift shop and a place to buy some food, as well as a picnic area if you're sensible enough to bring your own food. I love this place and can't wait to go back when it reopens for the season next year.

Lots to see and many activities laid on for the children. Arm them with a bucket of food from the entrance first though or you will find yourself running back for some! On site cafe sells everything from fish & chips to ice cream or just a cuppa. Toilets well sign posted and clean. Lots of basins and hand gel dotted around for after you have touched the animals. Nice staff who are kid friendly. Congratulations to the farm for keeping the gift shop prices low, lots of souvenirs on sale for under £2.

The really cool thing about this place is that there is no time limit during the week, so your kid can play there all day ( well, from 10:00 - 18.00). During the weekend its super busy and the kids can only play for max 2 hours- thats why we like to go during week days. There is also a Cafe area for the adults with free Wi-Fi, toy shops, organic food, drinks, coffee etc. The staff is nice but they have a couple of ladies that remind me of witches and they look very bored with their lives. One of them can be quite rude sometimes. They organise birthday parties ( with different themes-dinosaurs, hello kitty etc) and they have all kinds of deals. The parties include meals and party bags. Other facilities include separate children's toilets, disabled toilets, baby changing room and pram park. They provide baby bouncers and high chairs. A great place for local families with young children and a great place for kids to burn off their energy when the weather outside is sucky.

He loved playing in the under 5's ball filled play area and probably would have liked to been there all day if he had the choice. Parents can get in too and it is a lot of fun- just remember to wear your clean socks as you have to remove your shoes! It's is the ideal place for a birthday party as you dont have to think about the entertainment! After 45 minutes in the play area (more than enough for me!) the kids were taken upstairs for food and cake. The downstairs cafe sells organic drinks and snacks which is good if you dont fancy your kids going wild on a sugar rush. Bramleys is the perfect way to release your inner child and let your child play in a safe envirinment.

Entrance fees (when we went in fall 2012) for adults & kids 3-17yrs old: 9.20 pounds, Kids 2 yrs old: 7.60 pounds, and under 2 yrs old: free. Extra for the Pony rides and Tractor rides. Money well spent if you arrive early and stay as long as possible to maximize the expense. If you can only go for a short time, ask about the After school rate. We really loved the tractor ride (1.25 pounds per adult) - while it was a little hard to hear the narration (it was windy that day) we enjoyed the fun bumpy ride around the farm - They had some clever decoration in honor of the Halloween season. Little Hoppington area is ADORABLE: the animal village for animal handling, goat milking and various bunnies in their own "houses" that you can feed. So cute! And the adults turned into kids once we got on the giant slide. They even have a cute little gift shop which stocks kids Wellies/rain boots for 15 pounds. (no entrance fee to enter the Gift shop) PLUS: the food they served at the Old Barn Tearoom (you can eat there without paying entrance fee) was shockingly delicious. Most places like this have mediocre food. I thought this place gave generously portioned and well priced meals: My hubby, 3 yr old son and I shared a Shepherd's Pie, the kids mac and cheese (came with salad on the side) scone w/ jam & clotted cream, and a Ribena drink for less than 10 pounds. I'm a FAN.

The Watford branch of Gambado is brand new, so everything is sparkling clean and attractive to look at. The whole area is large and well spaced. Taking focal point was a massive playframe. There was a large four-lane slide as well as some of those rotating slides (not sure what it's called). There was a seperate area for under-2s. Tame enough to keep older kids away but still fun for the younger ones. They had large building blocks too, a nice touch. Next to the playframe was a climbing wall. The cafe was okish, nothing too great. Food was well presented but limited in variety. The only hot meal options seemed to be pizza and sandwiches. There were some nice salads too. The cafe had nice seating, transparent rounded chairs in different colours. Very well spaced out tables, not your typical softplay cafe. Prices were a bit on the high side. They had some areas with big chalkboards for the children to scribble on. And another place for musical experimenting, different things to bang on and make sounds. They also had some magnet play. Under some clear glass thingies were magnet shavings, pins etc. that children could pull a magnet over, causing patterns. There was also a fairly large track for dodgem cars. For adults there was a seperate lounge. There were computers with internet access, newspapers etc. It didn't look like children were allowed there, the notice said Adults Only. Strange that, who'd be watching the kids while the parents sat in a seperate area? It cost £15 entrace for me and the kids. By far the most expensive place for this sort of activity. You didn't have to spend any money inside though (unless you want to eat), everything was unlimited. There were plenty of lockers, clean and spacious, to deposit your belongings. It is free to use and you only need a £1 coin cif you want to lock it (it is refunded). Toilets are reasonably clean too, but I don't know if that is because it was a quiet day. Would recommend it if nothing cheaper is close to you. Works out quite expensive for a small family even.

I take my child here quite regularly though it is expensive £5.50 for about 2 hours. Adults can go in to the play area too, but it can get a bit claustrophic. The facilities are clean. It even has a gym section for toddlers! Parents can get free parking directly outside the area for up to 3 hours though they aren't that many spaces. There is a coffee shop so you can grab a drink whilst your children are playing. My child absolutely loved this and I would recommend it for any parent with young children. The food counter is usually manned by really young girls who do not have any interest in food or serving and this can be a major turn off. Their very basic menu consist mainly of chips and sausages or nuggets, again, what they charge for this very basic food is unjustifiable. The play area is in itself really good with a lot of different levels and slides for the kids to play 'till their heart is content. The location is good although parking can be a problem, there are pay car parks but this means walking for a few minutes to the place and this can be really inconvenient when you have a couple of children. Overall, I rate this place very poorly as it should have a better range of food and more reasonable prices.
