My 2 year old was free. $2 for a bucket (must use a Froberg's bucket for picking). We bought 2 to share among the 4 of us. We filled both close to the top (close to 6 lbs total). I'm not sure how much it cost per lb since I didn't pay, but i think it was $5/lb. Credit card does incur a 3.99% fee. We also bought some bbq: brisket sandwich, hotdog with turkey sausage and jalapeno sausage, Arizona green tea, bottled water, and 2 sausages to-go (jalapeno pork & deer sausage and regular sausage). It was a lot of food actually for $48. We also bought some baked goods to-go (especially enjoyed the oatmeal cookie, chocolate cookie, and pecan pie) . Cookies were $1.50 each or $12/dz. The medium pie (about 4 servings) was maybe $6-7. Being a Friday, there was not much to do at all because all the rides, games, and food trucks only run on the weekends. I guess it saved us money at least bc everything cost $3-4 (tokens). We still managed to stay 2 hours (it made our 1 hr drive worth it) because we ate the bbq at the shaded picnic tables while my 2 year old played on the playground. It's a small playground, but it had her favorite things- swings, slides, and a tire tower to climb. She had fun. I may go to Blessington for the pumpkin patch this fall (based off reviews), but fruit picking is pretty fun here.

My kiddo has a blast running around the massive play area too. I love getting fresh produce and eggs. We love meeting up with friends and spending an afternoon there. The food truck vendors are a bit pricey but you get a lot of food and it's pretty good.

The Kolache Fest is held at the Knight of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville., TX. It consists of games, arts and crafts booths, a classic car show, live polka music, dancing, a BBQ judging, food demos, a Biergarten and of course kolaches. The kolaches are provided by Kountry Bakery. As we drove past the restaurant itself we noticed how packed it was. After trying their kolaches at the festival, we can understand why it was so crowded. The kolaches are great. We wanted to try them all. Kolaches are sold at the festival by the half dozens and available in fruit varieties, cream cheese and as they call them, "pig" (sausage) with and without cheese and jalapeño. The events themselves are held at various times and offer something for everyone. Besides the above listed events there are many more - too many to list! We especially liked the food demos and the crocodile show as well as the classic cars. The live polka music and bands were talented and put on a lively, toe tapping show. Food items for sale are homemade by some very good bakers and benefit some well deserving organizations. Homemade sweets make any event that much better. There is lots of seating in a covered pavilion with huge ceiling fans that give relief from some of the heat. Hallettsville is a small town and this event has a big turnout so arriving early is the best way to ensure good parking although the lot is large. A trivia bit we learned is that it is the only town in the world with the name Hallettsville. It has the friendly, welcoming, small town type warmth that isn't always found within they city. If you like good food and friendly festivities the Kolache Fest is something you'll enjoy.

They have plenty of fun activities for kids of all ages and several bands throughout the day on 2 different stages inside with music to dance to. They sometimes make the games rigged, the lift the bottle one is purposely made to cheat with you, you have to make the exact angle or else it will fall. The knock down bottle game is also made to cheat with you, the bottles are heavy, the balls are light. I prefer the water gun one, the duck game, the balloon pop game, they are easy, you can get good prizes. The rides are kinda of boring, they give you nausea right after in night. Also they give out wristbands which are unlimited, but you don't get cash back though, even for tickets. The rides look like they are old, and they might creak and break, which isn't good for our safety. I'm just there for games.

I have some experience with fairs, having been to several in the Land of Fruits and Nuts. County…read moreFairs are a celebration of local culture, ranging from corny (Angels Camp) to high-tech (Pleasanton). The State Fair in Sacramento is a BIG DEAL, like merging the county fair with a Six Flags park. Now, in Free America, I've heard that the fair in Dallas is just as big a deal as the fair in Sacramento. Then we have the South Texas State Fair. With over 200 counties, I guess Texas thought it's better to have regional fairs combining several counties instead of over 200 county fairs. I mean, do you expect a fair in Loving County, population 70? The South Texas State Fair has the feel of a county fair: * Midway: Bigger, nicer, and safer than a typical county fair. The rides are portable, but are better maintained than others, including that one in Ohio that resulted in one death when it malfunctioned. Rides are $3-5, or all you can ride for $40, and the girl got her money's worth with the $40 wristband. * Food: Walking through the outside booths, they're nearly all food. Typical offerings (cheeseburgers, tacos, brisket, funnel cakes), lots of repeats, high prices with semi-low quality. But you can't get a fried Oreo anywhere else. * Concerts: The Alameda County Fair, with its large permanent amphitheater, is an aberration. Most have a temporary stage, and so does the South Texas State Fair. Many national acts started in this part of the country - the Big Bopper, George Jones, Janis Joplin, Tracy Byrd, Micah Tyler - but this fair showcases up-and-comers. Country music is obviously big here. Even if you never heard of the act, you're in for a good show. Exhibits: Local stuff, the type that you'd expect to find in the county fair. I admit, I had the song "Our state fair is the best state fair..." going through my mind. I guess it depends on what your expectations are. If you're looking for a typical experience, cotton candy and all, with a Lone Star flair, then you're gonna love the South Texas State Fair at Ford Park. Be warned: you won't be the only one. As the night goes on, the crowd gets BIG. We got there 45 minutes after the gate opened on a Friday, and by 7pm, the lines in the Midway were already at least half an hour long per ride. It's a good one.

Also, it gets pretty dusty so if your eyes are sensitive, I'd bring some eye drops. We went on a Friday night and thankfully it wasn't too packed. Parking was free and there was plenty of space in the lot. Getting out wasn't bad at all either. Like what other reviews have stated, the tickets are not cheap ($45 after tax). But I will say, the entire setup of the area is super cute and well decorated. Not only are there so many places for photo ops but there are also a ton of activities for kids. And honestly, even as an adult, my friends and I had a blast- just channel your inner child and go on those rides! There were mini rollercoasters, slides, petting zoos, a firework show, and so much more. Our time slot was 7-10 pm but honestly, I would try to get there earlier (i.e. 5 pm slot) especially if you purchased exclusive attractions (i.e. haunted house, corn maze, etc). With the general admuission tickets, you don't have access to the special attractions but you can purchase them at Dewberry farm- I believe it was $7.99 each. But if you're already set on going to numerous special attractions, just get the whole package online. My friends and I did the Trail of Terror and it took around 20 minutes to compelte and everything was well done! As for food, I know Dewberry Farm has the snack pack available for $15.99 and that covers kettlecorn, lemonade, a cookie, and a snowcone. And honestly, that's pretty worth it because a kettlecorn bag itself was 10.99- it was very yummy btw, my friends and I almost killed the whole bag in one sitting. Overall, my friends and I had a blast and we might make this an annual thing! I believe Dewberry farms also has a Christmas event so we might attend that as well.

Make sure you wear your tennis shoes. I didn't get a chance to take a lot of photos but did get one. They have all kinds of activities, playground, rides and food that will keep the kids busy. We will definitely have to come back to check them out. Come show your support if you're looking for something to do with the kiddos.
