Going east on Hwy 6, it's tucked in a tiny strip mall (if you can call it that). My husband and I went there to get our library cards so we could check out books for our Kindles. The process was simple: just fill out a form, show some ID, and you get your card. The librarian told us how to use it and how to access the library's online selection of Kindle books. All told it took less than 10 minutes. I can't vouch for their selection of physical books, because I've never checked out an actual book, but I can say that their Kindle book selection is pretty good. It's kind of nice because Manvel is really small and if you want a new release, you can usually get it right away, unlike some friends in large cities who have to wait a long time on a waiting list. I'm a fan on facebook so I get updated every so often. It sounds like they have a storytelling time for kids and maybe even some craft days, too. Books are so important for kids so I think it's great that they have these resources, even if they are so small. It's nice to have a library so close, but just keep your eyes peeled when you're looking for it. It's that small.

This is the new Harris County Library branch that opened June 2011. It is a lovely building with a…read moregreat kid's section, separate teen room called "Teen Isle" and adult books. It also has a small book store. There is an informatin desk as you enter staffed with friendly librarians, and self check out machines. This location even has a drive thru to return books and pick up requested items. They offer children's story time and lots of activities during the summer for kids, teens, and adults with the Summer Reading Program. They have a book club, and active Friends of the Library group. The best part is they are part of the Harris County Library system and you have access to TONS of books and materials from the entire library system!!!

This is a small library with friendly helpful staff. This place has been updated but I'm Years behind I'm sure. Last time I walked into a library was about 7 years ago and they still used card catalogs. I felt old and out of place lol. To be honest I'm shocked libraries are still a thing. I get all my books online now. I only got one becuse my 94 year old aunt reads a lot and wants the book to hold and buying them gets expensive, even from a thrift shop. The card catalogs are in computers and it's in a system with other libraries so that's helpful and confusing. The books are in alphabetical order and not numerical order so that's helpful. This location has more kids young reader, and teen books than adults. There's also a log of people using the computers, I was surprised by this. I figured everyone had a computer or a smartphone these days ‍ the librarians don't check out books anymore and there's no cards with dates on them either . The librarian (if that's still their name ) did show me how to check out a book. You scan your card and then place your books on the scanner and it checks them all out. The children's area features an awesome tree to sit in or around, my kids love it. There are several small tables and puzzles for the littlest patrons too. It is usually calm and quiet when we visit. I like how they ask adults without children to leave the children's area open just for that group, so they will have their own space to sit and read. They do offer lots of extras, such as knitting classes, story times, and visiting authors and local historians. I've been a member of this library since I was five years old, and I love that my own kids can enjoy it too.

That's how I found myself at Flores Library for the very first time, and I'm glad I did. From the moment I stepped through the doors, Flores gave off a warm, inviting energy. The librarians were incredibly welcoming and made sure to greet me, which immediately set a comforting tone for my visit. While this is one of the smallest library branches I've visited in Houston, what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and intention. The space itself is bright and vibrant, especially the children's section, which felt lively and thoughtfully designed. The adult fiction section was, admittedly, quite small -- but to my surprise and delight, it had the exact book I needed, thanks to checking availability online beforehand. Mission accomplished! I also make it a point to browse the library's for-sale books whenever I visit a branch. Flores's book sale area is small, but I could definitely see potential for growth, especially if they continue to receive community support and donations. One unique feature is the concrete patio space out back -- it's not particularly shaded or green, but it does offer a breath of fresh air and a chance to step outside during a longer visit. What really stood out, though, were the book displays. The library had put together thoughtful, thematic collections for Women's History Month, showcasing authors from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. It felt intentional, inclusive, and genuinely educational -- a great touch that made me linger longer. As for the vibe? Exceptionally kind. I sat and read for about 10 minutes right up until closing time, and not once did I feel rushed or nudged to leave. Even when I lingered in the parking lot after 6 PM, a staff member came out to kindly let me know they needed to lock the gate -- and did so with a smile. With its proximity to my job, Flores Library has officially made it onto my list of go-to spots when I need to grab a book quickly or find a cozy place to read. There is a large selection of books, so it's a great place to browse. They just had an outdoor story time yesterday for babies and young kids, and it was really well executed. The youth librarians involved were well prepared and engaging, so it was a fun time for both kids and adults. Parking is plentiful and free (unlike at the University Branch Library, where parking has to be validated if it's over 1 hour and you risk getting a ticket if you park in the wrong place).

What a work of art! The art didn't stop at the front door; it continued through the library as evidenced by the featured book titles that were adorned in timely themes (Breast Cancer Awareness, Halloween). It's clear that there's a certain degree of effort and attention to detail prioritized at this particular location. They also had one of the most extensive book sale sections I've seen across Houston Public Library; thanks to the library on duty, she told me about an upcoming library book sale happening in just a few days. I will make it my business to return! This library is full of history as I learned a bit about who Dr. Lonnie Smith was, a Civil Rights leader and renown professional in the dental community.

This is my local library which means i am here every two weeks or so. With that being said there…read morehas been serval times i have come to this location and the librarians have been on the rude side or professionalism. This has happened a few times; from not greeting when walked in the door or even when approaching the counter, asking for tissue or to help locate a boon which is quite literally their title. There is only one lady here that gives nice librarian vibe. The rest of the staff (the male included) are despicable. Overall, i like the children's book selection and fast internet.

I remember coming here (the former location) as a little girl and the longstanding librarian (an African American woman) who worked here for years was THE BEST - friendly, knowledgeable, and hardworking!!! She even encouraged community involvement in the form of book clubs and community partnerships because she actually knew the community and cared. This team is lazy and knows NOTHING! Several times I've been in to ask about a particular book or author and they are clueless. They have to ask each other then look on the computer but never know (for themselves) anything about say, books. Numerous times I've walked in to see them all sitting and chatting as if it's social hour. Patrons can be loud, children running around and they say nothing. (I NEVER saw the aforementioned librarian just sitting idly. She was always in the stacks or pushing a cart or actually helping patrons!) Recently, I visited to retrieve (check out) a book I'd put on "hold". I found the book on the shelf, by myself, and proceeded to the counter with my card for it to be checked out. The fair skinned young lady, sitting at the desk just kept looking at me and finally asked what I needed. When I attempted to give her my card, she pointed to a machine nearby telling me they no longer actually check out books, it's only done on the machine. Awful! (How hard would it have been for her to simply scan my card?) The finale came when I scanned my card and was asked to input my "pin". Why, I need a "pin" for my library card just seems senseless and trivial. I asked the woman for my pin to which she replied that she could "reset" it for me. When I told her *repeatedly* that I DID NOT want my pin reset, she proceeded anyway! Then, instead of writing it down on a post it (privately) she told me she'd made it my birth year, then YELLED it out (as if I don't know what year I was born.) Again, AWFUL customer service and incompetent staff. Please, find folks who know and care about the patrons here!!!
