Fun family based entertainment. Old fashioned baseball to watch on a hot summer night. Fairly cheap eats & drinks, specials available.

After watching Whip It, I was fascinated with Roller Derby. In the movie, the characters played…read moreroller derby on a banked/slanted track and there was a lot of hitting/checking into the walls. The versions of roller derby here in Houston, including the Northside Fury team, plays on a flat track. The rules are a bit different and you don't see the checking, but rest assured there is plenty of hitting. You will get to see elbows throw, booty bumping, and lots and lots of pushing. These guys are still relatively new so their home rink is not super packed. What does that mean for you? FRONT ROW seats. You better hurry because they are a good entertainment value. For $12 a person you can watch all the craziness happening in front of your eyes. You just need to bring your own lawnchair or you can just sit on the furniture that is there or on the floor. You can also bring in a cooler with some of your own beverages. It's fun for the whole family. I had a blast and will be back to see some more fast paced action!

Her personality on the rink matched her name. And the big hits she delivered left me speechless.. WOAH. She spent some time in the penalty corner and out after some falls but her intensity and focus throughout the match remained high and in the zone. That night, Northside Fury was defeated by the Derby Dames but they sure went out in a blaze of glory! We saw big hits, high speed falls, and even a player get a minor concussion. It was INTENSE. I'm glad I wasn't out there! It was a blast though watching from the sidelines. My friends and I enjoyed our cooler full of ice cold craft beers. Yes.. that's right. The event was BYOB! The bout lasted over two hours so by the end of the game, we were all feeling good and in a dancin' kinda mood. And then the announcer said: Free open skate time! Half of us laced up roller skates. The other half opted for roller blades. I hadn't skated in 10 years so I went slow. Several toddlers skating with PVC tripod walkers lapped me on the rink. I eventually got the hang of it though and was able to skate at their speed. Difficulty skating afterward gave me an even stronger appreciation for Roller Derby girls and their sport. I am now a fan of Northside Fury!

That is until recently when a group of friends and I wanted to do something out of our norm and check out something new to all of us. Introducing the Houston Sabercats, Houston's major league rugby team. The stadium is located right off 288 south of the loop, and right before entering entering into Pearland city limits. I drive by and see the signs daily coming and going from work, but never saw the stadium up close. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting a crowd but was totally surprised driving up and seeing a packed lot with people tailgating. Let me tell you, the fan base was very diverse from young and old and they supported their team proudly. Excitement was in the air which pumped me up as well. Ticket prices were reasonable considering there really isn't a bad seat in the house. There's all kinds of stuff happening in and around the stadium. They have different vendors selling merch, food, and drinks. Platypus Brewing had their own set up right when you walk in, but they also had little tents popped up around selling different food and drinks. There was also another area selling liquor. Merch was pretty spendy, but people were buying them up. The game itself was very fun to watch. I still have alot to learn as far as the rules goes. I would compare it to football, but alot tougher as these guys are going at it with little to no padding. Rugby is something I think I can get behind and I will for sure be back to check it out again.

The game itself was entertaining & our team tore our opponents to pieces. They had a good amount of pop up tents/vendors selling variety of stuff. They had a beer table, snacks, lemonade stand, alcohol stand. & if you want your ball park food they also have a concession stand. The lines moved very fast but they were out of a lot of items. I wanted a hot dog but they were out of it so I ordered their cheeseburger. Which I thought tasted okay. My favorite was their lemonade stand. For 3 dollars a cup I thought that was pretty cheap considering everything is expensive at the ball park. They do have a good amount of parking but it's definitely a hassle and chaotic when everyone is exiting the parking lot. Parking is 15 bucks which is ridiculous for a rugby game but you gotta make money so I ain't mad at it. Overall, it was a great experience and I can't wait to come back for another game. You wanna avoid the chaos parking? Take uber.

There was clearly an audience front even though the stadium is 360 and we were in one of the front sections. Great entertainment value with lots going on visually. Fun game. It gets very loud at the Toyota center with fans constantly cheering and screaming and rooting for their home team. Plus u have the rowdy rudies who are constantly shouting chanting slogans, keeping the fans in the game. The half time show is a lot of fun to watch with different contests going and usually a half court shot. At this game they had a battle of bands. Also there was aerobic show of dunks. They also had the rockets power girls dancing away and putting up a show. Throughout the game, there is constant interaction with the fans and all of it is displayed on the big titan tron tv screens. Also around third quarter, the cheer leaders bring fan gear and souvenirs and throw them in the stands for fans to catch. It's a lot of fun to attend a game and I highly recommend other yelpers to attend. Plus plenty of food and drinks and souvenir shops, make it a worthwhile visit for all the fans. Go rockets!!! #clutchCity
