My first time at an NBA game and I loved it! We had great seats - Section 107 row 18 was not too far back from the court and a view from the middle (and front). There was clearly an audience front even though the stadium is 360 and we were in one of the front sections. Great entertainment value with lots going on visually. Fun game. Took about 15 minutes to get through security/front doors when we arrived at 6PM (door opening time). Parking nearby was $40 but rideshare dropped us off right near the line to get in. read more

It's always a thrill to go watch the Houston rockets play at the Toyota center. This match up was against the Dallas mavericks and the rockets did win by almost 20 points. It gets very loud at the Toyota center with fans constantly cheering and screaming and rooting for their home team. Plus u have the rowdy rudies who are constantly shouting chanting slogans, keeping the fans in the game. The half time show is a lot of fun to watch with different contests going and usually a half court shot. At this game they had a battle of bands. Also there was aerobic show of dunks. They also had the rockets power girls dancing away and putting up a show. Throughout the game, there is constant interaction with the fans and all of it is displayed on the big titan tron tv screens. Also around third quarter, the cheer leaders bring fan gear and souvenirs and throw them in the stands for fans to catch. It's a lot of fun to attend a game and I highly recommend other yelpers to attend. Plus plenty of food and drinks and souvenir shops, make it a worthwhile visit for all the fans. I try to go to a few games per season and although you have to spend at least $100 per seat if you want good seats, you will get your money's worth! I really just love the energy at the games. I love all the entertainment they schedule during time outs and half time. I think they do a great job of keeping people happy. I always get a million surveys after the games, so they are really interested in making their fans happy. One day I was walking to the restroom and was asked to participate in a Pantene segment during the third quarter! The Houston Rockets are a good entertainment option for sports fans, mild fans, and families. The Toyota Center is a great venue in terms of all seats having good views and being very comfortable (padded even in the upper decks). Before the game there is plenty to do, either watch the teams warm up or check out the kids games zone on the upper deck (east side of the arena I think). The Rockets themselves are one of the better teams so the game action is always what you're there for. During the timeouts, there is always entertainment by Clutch the mascot as well as the Rockets Power dancers. Even halftime goes by fast with half court shots by Clutch and more Power Dancers and/or another act. There's also a band of "Red Rowdies" that sit in the east stands that are leading cheers and getting the crowd, well, rowdy (in a very family friendly way, they are sponsored by the team with tryouts). Parking can be tough since the Toyota Center is tucked between other popular attractions like Discovery Green, the George R. Brown convention center, and even the Pavilions area. You might pay $10 and still have a few blocks to walk. If you're willing to walk 6 or more blocks you can find free parking. The area is very safe even at night with a strong police presence and lots of other fans walking around. As usual, concessions are steep, assume $10 per beer or $6 - $9 for hot dogs, burgers, etc. I wish all venues would lower these prices, but people like me seem willing to pay them, so why would they? If you haven't checked out a Rockets game but are thinking about it, give them a try and bring your family. The prices are such you can't do it every game, but a couple of times a year would make for a good family outing or even guys night out. Unlike baseball, the games end before 10p so everyone can get to bed at a reasonable time! read more

As a Celtics fan I can proudly say I'll support the Rockets in anyway possible (except when they play the C's). Hey I don't like the Lakers either. When I heard about the MLK day deal, I had to go. For $20 I got a ticket in the upperlevel, which despite cramped seating the view wasn't too bad, a free hotdog and beer. Not too shabby and what made it even better was this free beer wasn't some small cup but a 16oz Miller Lite plastic bottle. I was shocked and happy at the same time. The Rockets have a good team and on this day they took on the Milwaukee Bucks, a team that isn't having a great year. Although this is a game I thought the Rockets should win easily, it actually was close and they had to beat the Bucks in OT to win it (thankfully Ridnour missed a wide open three that would of sent it to double OT). Outside of the actually basketball there were some other interesting moments they had between quarters. First was a baby race. Yes you read that right, baby race. What does this baby race entail? Well one parent at one side of the track while another at the finish. Place the baby on the starting line and when the buzzer sounds, the first baby to cross the line wins. Yup. I watched four babies crawl on a mat. People around me screamed for red, blue, orange, and yellow. I couldn't help but get into it as well; as if I was at the race track with 100 bucks riding on red (yellow was the winner that day). Aside from baby racing they have the usual dancers known as the Power Dancers. Although I find it funny that during they game they have them set up in two different corners that you aren't looking for them you probably won't even notice. The last thing I will add was on this day I was treated to a halftime performance by former American Idol winner Fantasia. Yeah...I guess she has a new VH1 show coming out soon. I wasn't a fan. Final point. If you aren't big into basketball but still want to check out a game you can probably get some cheap tickets and do so. I recommend it. Rockets, you break my heart as a team but I will always support you. I was a season ticket holder from 2006-2010. Les Alexander always seemed to try to improve the team but I wasn't happy with the cuts in the in game amenities to commit to another season. The final straw was when he raised my season prices only to cut the single tickets prices in the latter half of the season because no one was going. Coming back tonight for the first playoff game in 4 years, I was happy to see the upgrades to Toyota especially the new big screen and the 46 years of tradition video that highlight past rocket plays rather than single out Rocket players where they don't slight any missing Rocket greats. The Rockets, from my complete non expert but loyal Houstonian perspective, are a great team. Picking up Howard was a good call and I think him and the beard will continue to gel and bring this team up as a contender for playoffs. Big grumble at the moment is choking once we get there, like we've done in the past. I of course would love to see a return of clutch city. Watching a Rockets game is a fun experience. They do a good job of filling downtime with dance routines, fan involved competitions and t-shirt cannon blasting. Concessions are steep but that's probably on the Toyota Center's side of blame. Tickets range fairly well in price and I feel that, if you really want to go to a game, you should be able to afford a ticket somewhere in the arena, especially if it's a bad match up. The tickets were cheaper b/c of a group rate but I would highly recommend getting a pass for the parking garage too. It's soo much closer and easier to get in and out. Friend took me here for a company event at the Presidential Suite. It was huge it could probably have fit at least 100 people! There was a buffet line and a personal bar with free alcohol as well. I guess free for us but not the company (true story!). Anyways there is the main floor and there are stairs to walk down to another level and be at the lower level. The food was mediocre but lets be real we are here for the game and not really the food. I had a great time and we actually won that game against the Spurs. The only bad thing is that there is only one elevator that takes you up to that floor and it takes forever to get on. There is so many people and its hard. The bathroom too could use some remodeling especially if people are spending that much money. Other than that I have no complaint. read more

So, today I went to my first Rocket's game and really all the thanks goes to the Kasendora Williams for hooking up the corporate rate as I was able to get the group discount seats for $35 each. Otherwise, I would be sitting in the seats that are like 1 mile up above the court. So, considering that my in-laws leave the country tomorrow, I took them as a farewell present to a Rocket's game. Listen, I cannot help draw comparisons to the King's game that I went to in Sacramento at the Arco Arena considering that Alderman was the King's coach and now he's coaching the rockets. Damn you, Rick, you transplanted to Houston before me. In any case, the Houston Toyota Center stadium is the nicest stadium that I've ever been to. Not that I'm well traveled or anything, but they've really got a nice looking set here. The Rockets played the Nuggets and barley won. It was a tough ride and they won by 3. I have been now converted and my wife and I are now fans. We will be back, and for $35 you will find us in section 113 on any given day of the week rooting for our favorite basketball team. Well, I've yet to review a professional sports team...so here goes it. Things aren't looking too good for the Rockets these days. Yao Ming will probably miss most, if not all the season. No one likes league chinadoll, Tracy McGrady anymore. Most fans seem stuck on the glory days of old (really, how old were you in 1995? Its been that long!) And the team is losing free agents to Greece (bye-bye Von Wafer) of all places. Bereft of anything resembling a star player, this team is a sprained ankle away from a complete overhaul and will struggle to make the playoffs this year in an always rugged Western Conference. And that's not just me talking. Listen to what the GM has to say... "I think we're going to have a tall task ahead of us to be a playoff team. I think that is the goal for us. The history of teams with no All-Stars making playoffs is pretty limited." ~ Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. Talk about optimism! Its no wonder they aren't featured on national television this year, as of yet. If you get there early, the kids can meet Clutch who makes them feel awesome. Get your gear at the Rockets store--they have everything! Make a loop around the stadium and check out everything there is to do! There's Clutch's handler doing a trivia contest (it's hard trivia!) to win free t-shirts. On the upperlevel, there's a kid's zone. Also, you'll notice all the yummy things to eat. You can't go wrong with any of them. Also, the new scoreboard is awesome! Great new stadium, mediocre team. They're trying (Jeremy Lin!) but are still a couple of stars away from competing at the top level. And their current logo and uniforms are terrible. If the Astros can go back to the orange H-star, the Rockets should bring back the red and gold basketball logo and uniforms. The luxury boxes are very nice, though I have little to compare them with, as I am usually in the "regular joe" seating. Not sure if there's much to do in the area, as we took a bus in and out. Would be fun to check it out next time. The big video screen is helpful, but tends to distract from watching the actual game. The food stands didn't seem too appealing as I walked around during halftime. The problem with lots of expensive seating and luxury boxes is a more corporate, and thus sedate, crowd--not nearly as loud here as it was in the Summit. read more
