The Brazosport Museum of Natural Science is located inside a complex that houses two performing art…read moretheaters, a small gallery of local artists' work, an art league work room, and the museum. There is also a planetarium! The complex is part of the college, but is set far from the main college area and has its own parking. At first the museum really scared me by its 1970's look, but it's actually quite good for its size. It has a huge shell collection, as well as some minerals and other things mentioned on its website. Some of the displays had some great information on them. There is a weaver bird nest with information and graphics on how the nest is built step by step. There is a display of Texas shells along with models of what the organisms look like when they are alive and inhabiting the shells. There is a small dark room in the back that has minerals with a timed display of UV light showing their fluorescent properties. There is a display of regular colored shells and their albino counterparts. Once I got past the very old feel to the place, I was impressed. Overall, I think the museum is worth the trip from Houston. We visited this museum and Sea Center Texas in the same day. Both are free and really interesting and educational.

When you first walk in you're greeted by a nice staff member, a cute lobby/visitor center and have many options to start your time with. We chose the kids playroom, had lots of hands on activities, fun lights and technology to play with. We moved our way to the shark tank area, they really created a neat atmosphere where you feel like you're underwater with the lighting and glow. Huge lifelike sharks of all kinds to look at. Lots of photo ops such as a hammer head shark coming out the wall and huge shark jaw/teeth to crawl into. We spent lots of time soaking it all in. We then moved to the museum and enjoyed all the history and things to look at. Very clean, well laid out. There's a 20 min video to watch if you want to. We kept going and found more museum with best artifacts and a really cool library at the back. We spent over 30 mins in the library getting out books, binders, encyclopedias and pictures to look through. Neat books over US history too, over things anywhere from coins to stamps to local history to ocean life and even classic kids' books or photo books. We enjoyed going through the Tarpoon Inn binder, the DOW binder and more. So much learning in a super cozy library. We then went to the theatre at the back, sat in super comfortable theatre seats and one of my sons plopped down in a cushy bean bag chair, they've got lots. We visited the restrooms while here and they were nice and clean. So needed for a family outing. The man at the counter was kind and helpful, answered our questions and was welcoming to us as out of town visitors. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and time spent here. They put a lot of thought into the cleanliness, bright colors and attractive layouts of items. Again, so happy we came! Entire family enjoyed and left smarter.

In collaboration with Racing Adventures, I gifted my partner a few laps in an exotic car of his choice, which quickly morphed into the, "I'm hooked. Let's come back. I want more laps" experience gift of the year...I think I'll be stuck coming out to this track for years to come. Aka. Houston Grandsport Motorsports Park, know this gem is near Galveston, as opposed to Houston proper. Also know, this historic speedway is where John Mecom Jr housed and developed three of the five Grandsport Corvette Racecars in the sixties. Also also know the Speedway was formerly a WWII Naval Air Station and it shows. This beautiful backdrop provides an unmatched driving experience & history lesson only enhanced by the staff. They walked through the history, walked my partner through the track and turns in a traditional car, and provided support as he drove the exotic. We later discussed a few of the additional cars, and were allowed to stay to watch someone drive the lemans winning legend Ford GT40. I'm neither a car enthusiast nor history buff, but I had fun photographing the vehicles, watching laps & petting Heidi (the dog).
