    Burger

Sweet server with good suggestions- we had the burger and the rolled haddock. Apparently the haddock is a fav and it's been on the menu for 8 years. Everything was excellent, nice quiet restaurant right down the hill from Stirling Castle.

Great welcome by the staff! There was a slight miscommunication with the orders but everything was cooked to perfection. 5 stars as the food was absolutely delicious! The Cullen Skink, a must have whilst visiting Edinburgh! A little salty for my liking, however, the taste of the dish itself is the best out of all the Cullen Skinks I've tasted. The bread paired with this soup was heavenly soft and warm. This dish would be my comfort food if I was a Scotswoman!

We had just visited Stirling Castle and were looking for somewhere good to eat on a rainy afternoon. We were so over pub food, and Brea did not disappoint. We were unaware of its high rating when we entered. It was on the early side, so we were seated quickly, but it soon filled up. The staff were wonderful, and the food was amazing. The Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle was delicious, as was the haggis starter and cream of fennel soup. My son enjoyed the Wagyu burger and chips. It was an all-round memorable meal!

One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Started off with goat cheese and asparagus with a light mustard sauce. My main was haddock stuffed with salmon over mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

I arrived here to try Haggis for the first time. I was super happy. The service was very fast, with someone coming to seat me almost instantly! On top of this, the ambiance is great, with a very nice chandelier in the center. Finally, the food. The first Haggis I have ever had. I wanted seconds!! 100% recommend here for the Haggis alone!

We really enjoyed eating at Brea. The soup of the day was fantastic as well as the cheese plate. The rolled Scottish haddock seemed to be a very popular dish here. I recommended making a reservation because it was booked up the night we went. Overall, a must go-to while in Stirling!

Yummy prawn starter (special of the day)

We were turned away 45 minutes before they closed (on a rainy evening when not much else was open, no less) because "the chef was having a slow night" even though 5 tables were full of people enjoying their meals. Not sure if that's code for something, but we left hungry and disappointed. Returned the next day, ordered the prawn starter special and a burger to split, the former was delicious and had bread to dip in the yummy sauce. The burger was good but really nothing to write home about. Not sure why all the reviews freak out over it. For £16 it wasn't really that worth it. The server was funny and attentive, and he gave us some great laughs. Plus, the ambience is nice. I'd normally give 4 stars but the turning away the evening before was a bummer and docks a star.

I have never seen a fishmongers so busy; on saturday mornings you can see people actually queuing outside just to pick up some prawns or whatever. I mean how many places can you say that about. And the fish is incredible. Having bought the aforementioned prawns (didn't queue though - not because they're not worth it, just because I'm really lazy) I can safely say they're the best in Edinburgh. They are absolutely huge, really fresh and tasted amazing. The rest of the food is awesome as well, even if you're just picking up a piece of haddock or something then it is the best place around. Admittedly slightly more expensive than the supermarkets, but when you're getting fish of this quality that is fresh every day then you can't really complain.

Although it's right in the middle of student-ville, Eddie's is well-known all over the city and once you've bought from here it's easy to see why. The staff are not only friendly but also really knowledgeable. When I went in I needed things to make a fish pie, although I didn't know which fish would be best for it. Rather than simply trying to flog me the most expensive fish they had, the guy was very patient with me and showed me loads of different options. When I used to live in Marchmont I used to see the new deiliveries coming in every day (on the rare occasions I was up early enough, that is!), so you can always be confident that the stuff they have is fresh.

I'm so surprised to see hardly any reviews for Peters Seafood as I think it's a wee gem!! Having…read moreonly recently dipped my toes into the world of Seafood I tentatively booked dinner at Peters a few months ago for their Pre-Theatre menu. A set menu with 3 courses at £14.50, this is excellent value for the quality of food you get in a tiny restaurant. The place is family run, by Peter himself and his wife I'm sure. They really couldn't do enough for us when we visited. The starters on the menu on our visit (it changes) were the usual suspects in a Seafood restaurant, prawn cocktail, crab cakes, calamari etc. They also had Chicken Empanadas, which I tried, given that I'm new to fish I didn't want 2 courses!! The empanadas were crispy and flavoursome & came with a chilli dipping sauce. A perfect sized portion for a starter. Martyn went with the Prawn cocktail and, as you'd expect in a seafood restaurant, it was totally delicious with juicy prawns and a tangy Marie Rose sauce. I spoke with the waitress before ordering my main and explained that I was new to seafood and unsure about what fish to start with. She suggested the Seabass as it has a mild flavour and a meaty texture. I'm sooo glad I took her advice!! The fish was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and melting flesh, such a delicate flavour and not fishy whatsoever. It was served with wilted spinach and a lemon oil and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really opened my eyes to the fact that fish doesn't necessarily have that fishy taste I expected it to have. We weren't going to bother with puddings, it was a beautiful sunny night and we both fancied a walk & an Ice cream along Troon beach. However when clearing our plates the Waitress uttered 2 completely delectable words.....'Homemade Profiteroles'. This well and truly sealed the pudding deal and 2 plates swiftly arrived at our table. They were incredibly light with crispy yet airy Choux pastry and filled with delicious vanilla cream. The chocolate on top was the kind that makes u want to lick your plate (and I almost did). Overall an excellent meal in a lovely atmosphere for a great price. I often recommend it to visitors of East Kilbride and I can't wait to go back!

On a sunny day (yup you are in the East Neuk, so these days are not too rare) between Easter and September, come down to the harbour for some al fresco dining. It is a little bit of New England in Scotland! Here is how you tackle the lobster shack. 1. Make sure it is open - opening hours are variable, but usually open weekends from Easter, and in the height of the summer, they are open during the week for lunch. 2. Bring glassware/plastic cups and corkscrew if you are wanting juice/wine 3. Get some cash - they don't take cards 4. Go to the hut and pick your lobster, they are live and will be freshly boiled for you. 5. Whilst lobster is boiling, go to the co-op across the road and buy some wine, bread, salad or anything else you want to have with the lobster/crab - the lobster/crab is just served as is, no lemon or anything. 6. Come back and grab yourself a bench, get your delish lobster/crab which will be served on a glass plate with real cutlery. 7. Enjoy - guaranteed you will!
