Great location in central Stirling. My favorite restaurant on a recent trip to visit my daughter. In fact, we liked it so much we went on back-to-back evenings. My daughter very much liked the ravioli appetizer. On the second evening, we both had the bacon steak burger. The wait staff on both occasions were friendly and attentive. Nice to a beverage list with plenty of N/A options.

Sweet server with good suggestions- we had the burger and the rolled haddock. Apparently the haddock is a fav and it's been on the menu for 8 years. Everything was excellent, nice quiet restaurant right down the hill from Stirling Castle.

Great welcome by the staff! There was a slight miscommunication with the orders but everything was cooked to perfection. 5 stars as the food was absolutely delicious! The Cullen Skink, a must have whilst visiting Edinburgh! A little salty for my liking, however, the taste of the dish itself is the best out of all the Cullen Skinks I've tasted. The bread paired with this soup was heavenly soft and warm. This dish would be my comfort food if I was a Scotswoman!

Soup of the day: Cream of Fennel

We had just visited Stirling Castle and were looking for somewhere good to eat on a rainy afternoon. We were so over pub food, and Brea did not disappoint. We were unaware of its high rating when we entered. It was on the early side, so we were seated quickly, but it soon filled up. The staff were wonderful, and the food was amazing. The Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle was delicious, as was the haggis starter and cream of fennel soup. My son enjoyed the Wagyu burger and chips. It was an all-round memorable meal!

One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Started off with goat cheese and asparagus with a light mustard sauce. My main was haddock stuffed with salmon over mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

We really enjoyed eating at Brea. The soup of the day was fantastic as well as the cheese plate. The rolled Scottish haddock seemed to be a very popular dish here. I recommended making a reservation because it was booked up the night we went. Overall, a must go-to while in Stirling!

I arrived here to try Haggis for the first time. I was super happy. The service was very fast, with someone coming to seat me almost instantly! On top of this, the ambiance is great, with a very nice chandelier in the center. Finally, the food. The first Haggis I have ever had. I wanted seconds!! 100% recommend here for the Haggis alone!

Yummy prawn starter (special of the day)

We were turned away 45 minutes before they closed (on a rainy evening when not much else was open, no less) because "the chef was having a slow night" even though 5 tables were full of people enjoying their meals. Not sure if that's code for something, but we left hungry and disappointed. Returned the next day, ordered the prawn starter special and a burger to split, the former was delicious and had bread to dip in the yummy sauce. The burger was good but really nothing to write home about. Not sure why all the reviews freak out over it. For £16 it wasn't really that worth it. The server was funny and attentive, and he gave us some great laughs. Plus, the ambience is nice. I'd normally give 4 stars but the turning away the evening before was a bummer and docks a star.

As someone who truly loved little about Scotch, it was a wonderful way to taste and compare smoky vs peaty whiskeys. Fun. Our table was upstairs and we sat next to an open door which allows for fresh cool air. It was a warm day in Edinburgh. Our server was wonderful, patient and really helpful. Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. The side of asparagus was also excellent. The mouse dessert was delicious but very rich, it's enough for 4 people. The cost of dinner was also totally reasonable. I recommend this place highly.

I'm not used to seeing it in blocks and our end time was bolded but not the start time. We showed up at the end time. We were charged obviously because you have to give a card for a guarantee. I get that. I was fine with it since it was my fault. What I wasn't fine with was the rude (dare I say bitchy?) hostess who I spoke with upon arriving. She was awful to me and looked at me like I was garbage. Even after that, I decided to rebook and pay attention to the time. The restaurant had been recommended to us by a relative as the "best place they had eaten" while in Edinburgh and I wanted to try it. I booked for lunch and when we arrived the male host was lovely. We were sat early (because I always show up to a reservation early) and then we waited almost a half an hour for the one waitress there to come and help. It was fine. I can understand they are understaffed and busy. But then the food, it was also just fine. It was decent but not great. Like a lot of things in the UK, it's understated and seasoned. My husband had the pappardelle and my two children and I had the flat iron steak. His pasta had zero flavor. It was a cream based sauce. It needed more salt. As for the steak, it was fine. It was cooked well. Mine was medium rare and the kids both had medium. It was also not seasoned well. However the steak was served with a dipping sauce (a garlic sauce, a peppercorn or lemon mint). We tried all three since we had three steaks and those were all good and kept the steak from being bland. On the plate were chips (fries), which were not salted well but we had the dipping sauces. Also on the plate was plain arugula and a couple on the vine cherry tomatoes. Nothing spectacular. The waitress didn't come back once the entire time we were eating. Overall, it just wasn't worth it for the money we paid.

It really does have it all - fresh fruit and vegetables all leafy and colourful, a gin lovers corner, wonderful cheese and meats deli, health foods section including a variety a GF flours, breads and oatcakes (try their own oatcakes, completely different from the brand that sounds like Talkers but sooo much tastier!), tray upon tray of freshly laid eggs...I could go on but you get the idea! And that's just the food section! They also have a glorious gift section where I could've easily spent a small fortune. Everything from kitchen gadgets to picnic baskets, kiddie gifts to Emma Bridgewater pottery and everything in between. I spotted a few local producers too which I loved as I always like to see locals businesses supporting each other. Then there's the café/restaurant which has a few outdoor tables but plenty inside if they're taken; the day I visited it was glorious but somehow we got lucky and got a table outside (my shoulders can prove that #scottishtan!...). The menu has lots of tasty options incorporating as much of their own produce as possible - I opted for the Homemade Chicken Liver pate while my parents both had the Smoked Ayrshire Ham & Gloagburn Curried Banana Chutney sandwich (Dad went hunting for the ham to buy later he was that impressed!). Once decided, we had to go inside and order at the counter; I'm not sure if this was due to us sitting outside or standard practise as when we asked for a second round of coffees (and some more oatcakes for me as I'd ran out!), a waitress came over with one of those electronic hand-held thingys to take that order so I wondered why she couldn't have done that initially, anyway, not really a star-affecting issue. Pricewise, we were just shy of £10/head for a sandwich and coffee (exc our 2nd coffee round), a tad steep but it's all fresh and local produce so I don't mind paying that when you know you're getting good quality (and it really was!). Given it's out-the-way location it's a busy wee place but worth the trip as you could easily spend a couple of hours here eating and browsing. There's plenty parking available and even a small play area for kids. Farm Shops like this don't come around too often, which is a shame as they really are wee gems of places!
