For an entree I enjoued skewers of scampi and scallops over perfectly cooked pasta with olive oil and sprigs of veg. I was so full I skipped desert but the crem brulet looked devine. Instead I concluded with a coffee and baileys. Highly reccomend for the traveler near Brussels Airport who looks for a reasonably priced decerning meal with great wine and Belgium Beer!!

Found this restaurant close by, and it was a terrific choice. Great fresh and creatively prepared seafood. They offered a special with white asparagus prepared Flemish style. It was spectacular. My wife settled on the beef stew with stoemp, I had the confit of beef chuck with a side of fries. They were both very tasty, the servings were perfect for normal appetites and the meal came with bread, and salad as well. We really enjoyed it, in retrospect I wish we had ordered a beef dish and something else, both dishes we had were excellent (the confit of beef practically fell apart with my fork) but the tastes were similar. But they do their best to seat as many people as possible. I got in fairly quickly because i was alone. The food was fantastic. I had the Carbonade a la Biere, and it was so great! While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

As soon as we walked through the door my heart started to flutter. The wood paneled restaurant with its large central Zinc bar, gruff but friendly waiters, formica table tops with little napkin dispensers looks like it hasn't budged in 50 years. In a word: adorable! After examining the menu thoroughly I settled on the house specialty of spaghetti bolo and a café russe to wash it all down. An incongruous blend, I know, but hey, in a 24hr Belgian diner anything goes. Needless to say the bolo was like nothing I've ever had. You'll need lots of-and I mean- lots of beer; the classics and the crafts for the more modern folk. You wouldn't want to miss the one thing that make tavernes so recognizable: the deep green over deck that covers you when the inevitable Belgian rain comes pouring down. It's lovely how many different faces you'll see at restaurants like these. It ranges from groups of women grabbing a cup of coffee while bikering about whether or not one of them should call off her wedding. A huge family that had to have a family meal right there and then with the rowdy kids to match or couples, that desired to create intimate bonds through the one thing they'll always agree on: good food. Does it matter that the sauce that accompanied the duck had way too much alcohol in it for my taste? Or that the over deck was a tad bit too short , which caused half of my body to be wet from the rain? Or that this place wasn't that special but I liked it anyway?
