We love escape rooms and haven't tried this place yet. Easy to book online. We walked in and had to wait for someone to come to the lobby. She was super nice. We did the Kidnapping 2 room where you are blind folded, our first time doing one like this. There were 2 clues that weren't "working", but our game master paused out time and helped us out. We didn't escape but we definitely enjoyed it and will be back. read more

So disappointing! We arranged our whole morning of our vacation to go try the clue room as a family , called to make the reservation and arrived before the first available reservation only to be told there was only one person was working and he wasn't trained in that room and we would have to wait over an hour for a different game. Please don't advertise walk-ins welcome and get kids' hopes up only to have nothing your worker is trained in. read more

Two adults and six Jr-Sr High schoolers locked in a room. I cant wait to do it again. We had a party of 8 and talk about being under pressure down to the last minute. The multiple room setup made the game much more fun and the final clues that gave room for making some mistakes really kept it going. As we knew what the final thing to do was, my wife and I went to the room with the door waiting for them to get the key as we were down to 2 minutes. As the clock got closer to 60 minutes I started to get nervous and with 15 seconds to spare, they opened the door. I already purchased another 8 person outing when they had a sale. When walking into breakout games, we were assured that there would be no mistakes during our experience in the do not disturb room. With this being said, we had high expectations going into our experience. Without giving away any clues of the do not disturb room about 30 minutes in there was a vital clue missing, and we spent approximately 10 minutes trying to figure out how to proceed forward. We finally asked for a hint and were told to look at something that wasn't there. Then the game master came into the room noticed the clue was missing said oh sorry, this is the clue but it should have been there, and then walked out. we were given no extra time we were not compensated for paying over $120 for the tainted experience. When our time was over she came back, ran through the final clue we did not complete and then walked us to the door. We all felt pretty dismissed from our experience, considering they said, from the beginning that they would be no mistakes. read more

We've done several of the escape rooms here and each one has been, fun, exciting, new. The staff are helpful and give great tips when you're in the room. Perfect spot for a double date or family activity. read more

Group of 6, we did the Undercover Alley room, it was definitely difficult and with help from our awesome master, Steven, we were able to get the room done in 55:44. Barely made it but was a great experience and fun way to spend my daughters birthday celebration! They have at least ten different rooms, will definitely be bringing my team there in the near future because it seems like a great place for some team building. The Breakout Games in Urbandale is such a great experience! For group outings, team building experiences, birthday parties, etc. It's very fun and unique! I went for a team building experience and it was great to see everyone's different skills come out. Aaron was our game master and we broke out in 58:23 minutes just in time! We played the Casino room which was challenging yet fun! Math and creativity, along with the helpful hints from Aaron, definitely was the key to success! There are maybe 12 different rooms and they're building another currently. The staff is very kind and welcoming. I definitely recommend the Breakout for a fun escape room experience! read more

I've tried two escape rooms in the Des Moines Metro and so far this one is my favorite. The game Masters are really fun and engaging, and provide enough Clues to still make it challenging and fun. I also appreciate that they tell you how to solve the puzzle if you don't escape, I think not doing so leaves a sour taste in one's mouth so I really appreciated that they showed us just how close we were to solving the puzzle. We did the Mystery Mansion which was among the harder Escape rooms I've done before. So definitely a challenge but great fun. read more

Oh my goodness! What a great way for team bonding or a fun group activity for a party or get together! We made our reservation for a Friday night with a group of 8 celebrating a birthday. We arrived and already had signed our waivers online so our game leader Kaylee was able to get us started right off. We entered the room "island escape" and she explained rules then started a video and that was the cue to start the game! It was so much fun working through puzzles and deciphering clues together and it took all of us to solve it and break out! And in record time! We had our group picture taken and were given a card with our puzzle information and time so we can share it or come back and do another! What a great evening and birthday celebration! read more

Our family went two consecutive nights. The first night we played Kidnapping with Luke as the game master and set a new record. Night two we played Do Not Disturb with Reilly and barely made it out alive! The puzzles were challenging and there were several red herrings to get us off track and keep us guessing. There were varied ways to solve the puzzles not just a 4-digit code over and over. We have never used a fridge nor a microwave in an escape game before. read more

Concept was great, our game master was rough though. My wife and I went to Breakout games for our honeymoon as our "big event" but it ended up being a big disappointment. We did the casino, and our "game master" straight up said 'no need to worry about xxx, we don't do anything with that during the game' (don't want to ruin for future patrons) and so we left it alone. Ten minutes later our game master went 'remember xxx? why not try that?' Also his condescending nature was very not fun. Let me give you some direct quotes "Have you ever heard of prime numbers?" "Yeah, most people see the second door and just know there's another room." He would try to give us hints but he would mumble into his mic so we could barely hear him. I dunno, make I'm being finicky, but we spent dang near eighty dollars for that experience. Regardless though, the wifey and I won't be returning nor will we be recommending. Not worth the monetary risk. read more

I have been to a number of these escape the room style establishments and love the thrill of finding clues fast enough to breakout within an hour. This place was a little different in the fact that they allow you unlimited clues. I feel like that would be good for a younger croud as they still have a great chance of actually escaping the room with having as many clues as they wish. I however, prefer that there are only an alotted amount of clues as it makes it more rewarding when you actually breakout of the room. I may have felt that way, but some of the members of my group didnt. That being said, I really did enjoy the room we chose, which was the Honeymoon. There were a lot of padlocks, puzzles and even a morse code soundclip that you had to solve. Crystal, our game master was very friendly, attentive and all around pleasant to work with. She seems to really enjoy her job (although who wouldnt love seeing people jump when a clue drops from the ceiling or a scary voice cackles that you have 15 minutes left to get out lol!) Ill be back to enjoy another room soon! EDIT: This review WAS meant for Breakout, not sure why I put honeymoon room as the room was called "The Kidnapping". So anyone interested in going to Breakout, this review is accurate! read more

Our family arrived early for "Island Escape" to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, only to have to wait 40 minutes. Eventually they said the room was ready, but because of their delay, we would only have 45 minutes to complete it, even though their "best time to completion with 5 clues" was 47 minutes and change. We declined, asked for our money back, and were told we had to wait for a manager to call to even arrange for our refund (still waiting for that call, although it's only been a few hours at time of writing). What a disappointment. I get they were totally booked, and trying to stay on schedule. But a great part of the magic of an escape room is the one-hour window, and to arbitrarily trim a $100+ experience because of their delay was ridiculous. Analogous to a hairdresser running long on one appointment, so only cuts half of his next client's hair. Luckily, later that morning we found an open slot at The Escape Room in Ankeny for their "The Informant" room. That was fantastic, highly recommend, so the day wasn't a total loss. read more

Love a good mystery adventure? Breakout room puts you and your friends in a scenario that requires problem solving and communication. I brought my kids (ages 14 and 12) along with my boyfriend. We were able to get out of the room (not really locked) in the 60 minute limit. A staff person monitors the game play from outside the room and ,if you get stuck for too long or ask for help, will provide you clues to keep you engaged in the game. There are several themed rooms to choose from and apparently each have varying degrees of difficulty (if that is a concern for you, you should call and chat with the staff). Groups ranging in size from up to 6-8 can play in a room. Prepay and reserve your room online, but note that if you don't fill up the room you might be have others book the same room and time as you. Apparently Breakout rooms are located around the country and they introduce new themes periodically. We had a blast and would love to try another room in the near future. read more

Ok sooooooooooo, we had a pretty good time doing a breakout room for a friends birthday. We did the mystery mansion and the game master that did our room was a complete brat. Once throughout the game there was a slightly scary scenario and everyone yelled a little. She comes in the room and yells at us and says we need to shut up. All throughout the game she was making snarky comments about how we weren't that smart (dumb if u will). The attitude from her started from the very start. Even after when she was taking our picture she seemed annoyed with us. We were expecting a great experience whether we broke out or not, but did not have the best time. I have been to this place before and the experience was nothing but great, it wasn't the place it was just the person that helped us. read more

Breakout Games was a Great spot for our daughters Birthday Group ranging in age from 9-59. The Museum Heist was a great challenge and the Establishment was cool and clean. Steven was a very entertaining, energetic and hilarious host. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. read more
