This class was so much fun and completely awesome. I did a field trip to Mitsuwa Market in Saratoga to buy the ingredients, though others in the class did the kit. Everything was explained well and demonstrated in a way that was easy to follow. As we went, it got easier to get better rolls. Kaz is a great teacher. I am not much of a chef, and this class was a blast! Chef Kaz is friendly and an excellent teacher who puts on an engaging, fun class. Kaz taught us how to cut different types of fish, make traditional Japanese sushi and American-style rolls, and even make nigiri. Kaz was absolutely such a fun chef to learn the true basics on how to make rolls and we further understand the work and craftmanship that goes into preparing sushi. Best offsite ever! Kaz is super helpful and he got us a venue that is nice and also makes sure the plan fits our budget. We chose sashimi course and had the pleasure of learning from Chef Tak. First we learned to make simple california roll with real crab meat then the next try we are adding fish to make rainbow roll. Then we learned to cut sashimi and do handroll. A lot of us has no cooking talents but was able to produce something wonderful. Everyone had a great time learning something new while eating the sushi made by others. Let's talk classes. I came here with my coworkers for a team building activity. The sushi making class is about two hours, not including time at the end to sit and eat and chat with the chef. This class includes lessons on your knife skills (cutting cucumbers and slicing fish for sushi and sashimi), making California rolls, cucumber salads, rainbow roll, and hand rolls. All lessons are step by step. The chef is very patient, explaining the history behind sushi, demoing every step, and giving one on one tips. It's definitely a fun experience. I wasn't sure what to expect, but sushi making is definitely a lot more hands on and harder than I thought. You'll have a lot more respect for your sushi chef the next time you step into a Japanese restaurant. The only thing I wish was that we did everything. Some things were pre made for us, like seasoning the rice, seasoning the seaweed for the cucumber salad, the sake mojito, prepping the fish before we use it. Great experience. Due to Covid our class was virtual via Zoom. I was unsure how it would go but everything worked out just fine. Pre ordering the packages ahead of time was a huge help. What a awesome class! I organized a team building event at work for about 30ppl and yes we have our own fully functional kitchen with work benches so no need to go offsite. Chef Kaz and team was amazing! During the planning stages, Chef Kaz was really good at getting back to me when I would have questions or concerns. During the class he was very engaging and also made the class so much fun. He showed the team knife techniques on cutting fish, cucumber and avocados. The rolls we made are the California rolls, rainbow rolls and hand roll. We also did a sushi challenge where we came up with a theme and made sushi out of that theme. We took a sushi making class at the Miele Center in San Francisco. It was a gorgeous venue. We learned how to make sushi rolls with rice on the inside, sushi rolls with rice on the outside, hand rolls, and giant sushi rolls. We also learned knife techniques & were able to practice on cucumber and fish. We were able to learn so much and practice so many skills. Kaz was a great teacher. He showed us how to make the rolls and came around while we were trying them out to give pointers. Luckily he sent out the recipes after the class so that we didn't have worry too much! During my trip to San Francisco, I came across Break Through Sushi @break_through_sketch on Eventbrite. With life's trials, I'm always hanging in there for my breakthrough. Chef Kaz's two hour, six-item class wasn't pricey at all which I thought was a steal for $99. I quickly walked up to the building that read "Miele", I wasn't sure if it was part of a culinary school, rented space, or fancy Williams Sonoma type cookware store. The set up behind the glass doors was so immaculate I felt real bad and boujee, real presidential. A man who later introduced himself as Chef Kaz greeted me and offered me a Sake Mojito or a beverage from the double door stainless steel fridge. I had to double check that I was in the right place because it was so exquisite and I had only paid the $99. If it wasn't, I wasn't gonna leave, I was just gonna continue to receive the perks and if they did a roll call then I would play dumb and quietly exit. There were 4 tables and two setups at each equipped with a chefs knife, apron and a small tray of ingredients for sushi making. Everything looked so fresh like it just hopped right out of the ocean and right onto our mise en place trays. I wasn't sure what to expect but I honestly knew a bunch of retired old ladies and boujee housewives would be attending. There were a couple but there were a bunch of millennials and couples. I think couples cooking dates are a great way to tell your mate you're tired of eating $5 fill up boxes. My A-1 class operated like a symphony, Chef would show us one thing and we would repeat it flawlessly. He demoed miso soup and cooking of the prawns. Once those were done he let us loose, we made a cucumber salad and then sushi rolls and stuffed them with whatever ingredients we wanted. Ingredients included: tuna, salmon, crab, cucumber, and more. We also got to snack on Coon Stripe Shrimp which were AMAZING!! Those shrimp and Langostino lobster are on my top fav seafood list. I attended a sushi making class on 8/11/12 through Living Social. It was fun and covered all the basics for making your own sushi at home. We had a nice greeting cocktail and appetizers while arriving. Thirty people were divided into groups of 5 to practice making a California roll, knife skills for slicing sashimi and a making our own sushi challenge at the end of the class. Kaz is a good speaker and he gave us clear targeted information about what we should and shouldn't be doing. Working in small groups allowed us to observe mistakes that are common.
