Even though the assignments are standard for all students, the center tailors the approach to best suit the individual. What really impressed me was my daughter stating that she now feels very confident during math exams. This was not the case before Kumon even though she still did OK on her exams. Now, she "owns" the exams and her strong work on base functions related to her grade level are the reason for her success.

Northern VA schools were by and large good, and known entities to my wife and I, having lived in the area for years. Friends of ours had a daughter who did after-school work at C2, which eventually led us to reaching out for SAT prep - something neither of us did. Miss Jessica deserves kudos for the effort she puts out to go the extra mile. I wish some of the school counselors, and definitely some of the teachers we have dealt with would take the same level of concern she did. I guess you get what you pay for, sad to say. Any time my wife had an issue, she seemed to step up and help. She's the one you want to deal with. They don't let you talk to the teachers, but we still got reports on classroom activity (it's three students at a table, not one on one), and despite not meeting them, Shawn had a good rep, and Ted always seemed helpful. We liked the idea of combining with other driven students, as sometimes our child can take a little extra motivation. SAT score went up, grades went up, happy parents, happy student. Overall, we're happy enough that we'll be looking here for after-school tutoring as well. We hope there's another Miss Jessica to make us feel at home again!

He attended C2 on and off as needed until he graduated from high school. My 2 girls are currently in high school and use C2 on and off when needed as well. Cary will tell you himself that his goal is not simply to help you pass the AP test or get a good grade on your final -- it's to impart his passion for the Classics to his students and help cultivate an appreciation for the beauty of language and the cultures from which they were born. If you choose to study with Cary, be ready to put in work -- his teaching style is not conducive to so-called 'passive' learning and rote memorization that's becoming so common in schools these days, and he'll make it clear he has little time for or interest in students who are unwilling to match his effort. Make no mistake -- it can get exhausting. You will find yourself reading dozens of lines of Latin texts a week, and he demands not only a strong knowledge of vocabulary and syntax but also an understanding of literary techniques and even a bit of historical context. That said, over time it will become natural, and you'll find yourself not only enjoying the texts you read but also hungry to engage in the process of decoding them, hunting down complex passages and thrilling in finally putting together a particularly challenging sentence. If you ever get the opportunity to study under Cary, do it. His expectations are high -- you'll have to put in as much effort in him as he does in you -- but in the end you'll find the rewards are far greater than higher grades (though those will come too!).

The pricing for an 8-week course (2hr session) seems pretty reasonable compared to other language schools - it's not the cheapest, but it's not super expensive. I really appreciated the school's administrator's quick responses to all of my questions prior to registering for my course. The school's website provides VERY detailed information about registering for courses, refunds, time commitments, etc. My professor (Rossy) is amazing and very patient in helping her class reach its language goals. LOL, I think she has a worksheet/example for EVERY possible linguistic situation. I do appreciate the small class size, which gives all students a chance to have a more personal experience. Actually, I was quite shocked (in a good way) that a couple other students have been working with Rossy for over five years. Although most of the courses are virtual (I could be wrong about this), I wish that there were some in-person courses/options especially for the weekend sessions. However, I understand that times are changing, and we as a society are moving to a more virtual world. Perhaps, this is outside of ISL's responsibility, but I wouldn't mind the incorporation of at least one in-person event/experience within course. However, I guess arranging an in-person event/excursion could be left to the discretion of the the course's professor and/or the students. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend ISL.
