Lisa is a life changer. I have three daughters, ages 9,5.5 and 2! When I first became pregnant I knew I wanted to be a breastfeeding mom and I knew that I needed support. A friend of mine had hired Lisa and raved about her. We trusted Lisa with our entire breastfeeding journey and it was the best decision we could have ever made for our family. She helped us with everything. She met with us multiple times throughout my pregnancy to ensure we were prepared and ready for birth! When the day came to have my first daughter Lisa came to the hospital immediately after I gave birth. She helped me nurse for the first time. She walked me through everything. She supported our family in ways I never knew I needed. She advocated for me for post partum care and she immediately noticed that my baby has a tongue tie. She quickly called our pediatrician that she had recommended and she got us in the next day to get that corrected. She provided me with a nipple shield and all of the advice and everything I needed for our first night in the hospital. Lisa text me all night long to check on me. She came back the next day and then came to our home the day after that. We had to supplement for one day and Lisa walked us through that entire process. For two weeks she was there for every question at any time of the day. After a few weeks it calmed a bit but Lisa still remained there for support honestly forever. Because of Lisa I went on to nurse my first for nearly 3 years. Without her guidance, love and support I would have quit on night one. The tongue tie made it painful. But Lisa was there and assured me it would get better and it did. 4 years later I had another Baby and again we hired Lisa! Again she did the same! She supported us and our family every step of the way! With our second she struggled for a long time with severe eczema. Lisa was there for us the whole way! I have to say that Lisa is an angel. She is very concerned about your well being and not to mention such a strong advocate for your little one. I wish I would have known about her sooner. I didn't meet Lisa until after a month of having my little one. I was having some issues breastfeeding and being a first time mom was a struggle. If only doctors would use Lactation consultants sooner or refer to them at your first follow up visit. As of recently, I was diagnosed with mastitis. I didn't even think about reaching out to Lisa. When my milk supply started to deplete, I reached out to her. She was very thorough with her instructions and took the time to meet with me immediately. She suggested a few new things like go lacta, switching to a hospital grade pump, etc. With that being said, I am happy to say that my milk supply has come back and I am happily continuing to breastfeed. Lisa Really is as good as it gets. Never have I had ANY health care professional go as far out of her way as this AMAZING woman has gone! Even my husband loves her to death and brags about how awesome she is and the level of care she provides AND has called me several times from work to get her # because there is always a guy at work who's getting ready to have a baby and he INSISTS they need her! I WISH I would of had her around 12 years ago when I had my last child and was faced with so many challenges I almost gave up. But because of that I did some research while pregnant with my son because I was prepared for a disaster! That is how I managed to find Lisa, and honestly believe she has been a blessing. She came to my house BEFORE my son was born and sat with me and my husband for a few hours going over every detail that would help us be prepared to have a smooth, successful delivery, breast feeding experience and everything that goes along with it. I love that she is straight forward and to the point because i don't know any new/expecting mom that has time to mess around with flakiness or guess work. She will always give you facts backed by research and answer all your questions no matter how silly they seem. She also has meet ups for support and many other resources she offers for support. Lisa is a lifesaver. She is extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of lactation and breastfeeding (and even some baby whispering!). She puts forth every effort in order to help you achieve your personal goals with breastfeeding. She is straight-forward and no-nonsense and very caring and friendly. Her rental fees and consultation fees are extremely reasonable, and absolutely worth every penny. She also runs a Facebook group to help moms connect in the Las Vegas area. If you have any interest in breastfeeding your baby, I suggest you contact Lisa and engage her services BEFORE the birth. It will make a world of difference, whether you have difficulties or not. Her knowledge is indispensable, and breastfeeding can be more complicated than you'd ever expect. I went through a traumatic birth, and my milk wasn't coming in by the fifth day. The hospital staff (Centennial Hills) was not helpful at all in regards to lactation. The best they could offer was a resource sheet that was in my discharge papers. From that, I had been working with the ladies at the UMC Women's Center, and they suggested I rent a hospital-grade breast pump. I called every number on that resource sheet for pricing and such. I ended up going to one of the websites on the sheet randomly and coming across an updated version of the resource sheet that had Lisa and her company B.A.B.Y. on it. She was literally the last place I called, and it had to be serendipity. She came to my house that night at 6pm to deliver the pump, and after speaking with her, I immediately hired her for her consultation services. After working with Lisa for almost two weeks trying to get my milk to come in, it just wasn't happening. Lisa had even gone so far as to contact her mentor and get her opinion on my situation. Lisa was fully supportive of whatever decision I chose to make. She would be there if I wanted to keep working at breastfeeding, and she would support my decision to go the formula route. She doesn't judge either way, and she lays out the pros and cons for them both and how they relate to your lifestyle and goals. In the end, we went the formula route, primarily because Lisa made me realize that I wasn't bonding with my daughter (she said as much directly to me), and the stress and torment I was going through wasn't worth sacrificing that relationship or those moments with my child. She listened to my issues, frustrations, fears, and goals, and she truly wanted to help create a plan that worked for me and my baby understanding that exclusively breastfeeding was the ultimate goal. Lisa specializes in tongue tied babies and challenging cases. She was able to identify and solve supply issues and latch issues. It wasn't easy and it took a few months of breastfeeding, pumping, and bottle feeding pumped breastmilk, but we did it and my baby is now exclusively on the breast; no more pumping and bottle feeding and she's gaining just fine. Being able to nurse my 2nd daughter was very important to me, and when she was 2 months old I became very discouraged by the way she was feeding and acting. I started doubting myself and my ability to breastfeed her when I called Lisa one evening in tears. Nobody could tell me what was going on (pediatrician, another LC, LLL, chiro) so calling another IBCLC felt like my last hope. I am SO thankful for Lisa. She talked to me that night on the phone and helped instantly just by encouraging me and calming me down (haha). Lisa came to my house the very next day and used her scale to find out exactly how much my daughter was eating and to watch how she was eating. She did not rush us and listened to all my concerns, answering each one. We came up with a plan and she even emailed me a detailed reminder of what we had talked about the next day so that I could always refer back to it. This is baby number 4 for me, but the second one that Lisa has helped me with. We just recently moved to Northern Idaho. I thought I had this no problem. Lisa taught me what to do with number 3. Nope, every baby is different. I found myself with a declining milk supply and sore nipples. Called lisa freaking out. She got on the phone and on the internet. She was my hugest advocate and support. She helped me arrange for a hospital grade breast pump and got me started on Golacta. Baby will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Finally getting comfortable with our breastfeeding. Would have been a failure statistic without Lisa's help. With all these stellar reviews I hate to write a less-than-perfect one, so I waited until well after the post partum period to make sure it wasn't just "hormones" talking. We turned desperately to Lisa at about 3 weeks post partum. My son was in the NICU for a few days after birth and we never successfully achieved a latch. I was exclusively pumping, feeling traumatized from a difficult labor, and guilty that we weren't nursing. The hospital lactation consultant was absolutely no help to me because I saw her twice for 10 minutes and her best advice was to "keep trying". Lisa was recommended by my doula and her consultation was not cheap. The first time we spoke on the phone I could tell she knew her stuff but she seemed to bark orders at me. "You NEED to get a hospital grade pump. Period. You're doing what? No. No, no, no." And that type of directive communication continued throughout. "Go here, do this, take these pills, etc." As an emotional and hormonal first time mother in the hectic, scary, sleepless post partum period, I was hoping for more of a therapeutic communication approach from another registered nurse. In most other arenas in life, I wouldn't mind this kind of no-nonsense communication, but it didn't work well for me at this particular time of need. She once had a sign on the entry door that read something like "Use other entrance." I was sleep deprived, running late, and moving quickly. I didn't see it and I opened the door. She quickly "shoo'd" me out seemingly angrily saying, "Didn't you see the sign on the door?" Way to make a client feel like her tail's between her legs. Her office location was extremely inconvenient for me, and the parking was horrible. There were often homeless people loitering right on the sidewalk in front of the business complex, making it feel like a very "unsavory" neighborhood. I'd walk past people smoking in front of the offices, which was annoying considering I was walking with an infant. I think the business could benefit from a nicer, more central, and more professional location. She would also benefit from networking and building more professional relationships for referrals on the south side of town, since all of her referrals are up north. All of that being said, Lisa knows EVERYTHING there is to know about lactation and breastfeeding. She is truly an expert in this field and if you are willing to do what she says, go where she tells you to go, see who she tells you to see, eat what she tells you to eat, etc. (and I don't say this facetiously), and you are dedicated to the core, she WILL help you with whatever lactation issue(s) you're having. The positives: -Her expertise -She sends you an updated "care plan" with instructions after each visit -She carries hospital grade pumps for rental -She does prenatal consultation -She is available via text once you've contracted with her Her brand of straightforward and even seemingly "brash" communication wasn't a good fit for me when I worked with her, but that doesn't mean that she won't be EXACTLY what you need to help you with your lactation woes. It's clear that many mothers have had 5 star experiences, so take this for what it's worth. In the end, I succumbed to the struggles and wound up switching to a hypoallergenic formula at 3 months (baby was allergic to milk protein, soy protein, and possibly wheat and eggs... I never got far enough into my elimination diet to confirm the last two). Lisa ardently tried to convince me to stay with it, and I appreciated that but I eventually made the best decision for me and my family. And if you're reading this, I should probably say "congratulations!" and enjoy every second with your sweet new addition! read more

Terrible thanks to her my daughter doesn't want my breast milk

Anyone having a baby these days has been bombarded with information regarding the importance of breastfeeding, and I was no different. I took all the classes and read the books, and I thought I was prepared. However, after giving birth to my daughter, I immediately ran into difficulty, namely intense pain. I called Lisa of B.A.B.Y. on my 1st day home from the hospital, knowing that it was crucial to get help quickly if I was to continue to nurse. Lisa came over the same day (!) and immediately set to work figuring out the source of my pain and possible solutions. Though the pain did not immediately go away, she came back to my house 4-5 times over the next week, each time examining and weighing my baby, watching me nurse, and offering suggestions. It was extremely helpful and encouraging for me to hear her words of support and suggestions, and simply to just be able to vent to someone. Moreover, as both an IBCLC and a NICU nurse, she had a ton of knowledge about newborn babies in general, the amount of food they need in those early days, their sucking patterns and behavior at the breast, and other topics that were just reassuring. I also appreciated that even though I did not end up supplementing with formula, she was not virulently opposed to it, stating that the most important thing is the overall health of the family, NOT avoiding formula at all costs including mom's sanity.My daughter is now 4 months old and still exclusively breastfed, and I owe much of my success with nursing to Lisa. Another perk is that she hosts a Facebook group with a membership of nursing mothers who you can quickly and easily ask for nursing advice or support. It's very handy! read more

My first would not breastfeed and I was determined to have a better experience the second time around. She came to the hospital that very night and started teaching me and my new baby everything we needed to know to successfully breastfeed. I am a certified nurse midwife. My daughter had a very complicated breastfeeding experience, and even with the breastfeeding knowledge I had, knew we had to find someone more knowledgeable to help get through the difficulties. Lisa was the 3rd lactation consultant we used, and as they say, "the third time's the charm". Lisa is a neonatal ICU nurse and is the most knowledgeable person I have met in the lactation world. Lisa is an amazing lactation consultant that is non-judgmental, supportive, and extremely knowledgable. I had a lot of trouble BF my son and a rough few weeks postpartum. I reached out to her as a last attempt before I gave up. She taught me to take care of myself first so that I could take care of my baby. She taught me how to breastfeed, the most efficient way to pump, provided some 'baby whisperer' techniques, and helped build my confidence as a first time mom. Breast feeding is not a science. Lisa explained this to me many times. But one thing it requires is support and evidence based practices. Lisa is your gal. She built up my supply and gave me all the information I needed to understand breastfeeding, even though it is not an exact science. My son didn't regain his birthweight at two weeks and my pediatricians at the time gave me a pat on the back and said I did a great job but some babies just don't get the hang of nursing. Well I'll start from the top, I thought breastfeeding would be easy, it should just come to me right? Wrong, after listening to bad advice from family and trying my own research of what my baby should be doing at 2 months, I was failing miserably! I had almost just given up and switched to formula after tears and heartbreak that I couldn't nourish my son; this is when I found Lisa, and I could not have made a better choice. Once she began working with me to get my supply up, it did take some time as I had caused quite a bit of damage to my supply, she didn't stop until my supply came back. She was there for support, to offer her knowledge, and answer any questions I had about breastfeeding and baby behavior pertaining to breastfeeding. I cannot give her a high enough recommendation, she gives so much of herself so that others can succeed at something so crucial for their babies, and that is what makes her amazing! P.S. Lisa is my earth angel. That's end. The end. Just kidding. Lisa is an INCREDIBLE woman. She is so passionate about her field and truly cares about her patients and their babies. My son was severely tongue tied and has a severe lip tie making it nearly impossible for him to latch on. Although I was forced to become an exclusive pumper, the few times that Lisa had him latched on literally touched my heart forever. There is no better feeling than being able to feed your baby!! I first saw a lactation consultant in the hospital...FOUR hours after I had my baby. She told me that my flat nipples, large breasts and my son's tongue/lip tie meant feeding by baby would be impossible. Yes! A lactation consultant told me this! So disappointing and discouraging. Then I saw a lactation counselor who was recommended to me by some girls on Facebook. I trusted in her because she charged a pretty penny for a consult ($125). She told me that I was going to need to wear a nipple shield and she showed me the most awkward position for baby to sit in while feeding. She never followed up with me. When I asked her questions she told me I'd need another consult. I felt so taken advantage of! :( I about gave up and then I found Lisa. Lisa will spend as long as it takes with you to get the job done. She brought over a scale to measure exactly how much baby was getting. She waited to see baby have a wet diaper. She helped me latch him on until I could do it on my own. She text'd me all throughout the night. She answered every question and followed up every day. I just can't say enough amazing things about her. I feel like she should win an award or be some big dog speaking at huge lactation events!! You MUST use her and no one else. Lisa is absolutely the best! I saw her before I had my baby and was really hoping I would be able to breastfeed. She was away at a conference the week I had my baby but still assisted me through face time. Shortly after leaving the hospital, due to being so overwhelmed and possibly some baby blues I decided I did not want to continue trying to breastfeed and would strictly pump. I was nervous to tell Lisa, but she fully supported my decision and didn't judge me. After about three weeks I quit pumping all together and decided to just formula feed. When my baby was 5-6 weeks old he was covered in a horrible rash, was extremely unhappy and fussy, and I just knew it was due to the formula. So I decided to contact Lisa again to see if there was any possible way to breastfeed again, even though I had dried up. Again, without judging or asking any questions she met with me that week so we could go over everything I would have to do in order to build up my milk supply again. Thanks to her I have successfully starting breastfeeding again even though I stopped after my baby was three weeks old. She also helped me with some techniques on how to calm my baby down. It wasn't easy, but Lisa was always just a text away whenever I needed her. If you are wanting to breastfeed and want the best support system you have to go see Lisa.
