I practiced here for about a decade and took two teacher trainings. I also taught briefly. During my time teaching in 2021, i was experiencing marriage issues and confided in the owner of the studio, Desirae Pierce. She feigned empathy but soon informed me she was changing our fee arrangement, so I could no longer practice there. She encouraged me to "teach at other studios & bring knowledge back." Thank you to my favorite yoga instructor in Killeen, I learned about her mentor, Desirae, and Breath and Body Yoga. I'm hooked like Tyrone Biggums (dave chappelle character) is hooked on crack. As for yoga, I have only been practicing since Dec 25, 2014 and I have been exposed to many yoga studios, instructors, and teaching styles (Long Beach, Fullerton, La Habra, Cypress, Seattle, Killeen, Houston, Dallas, and Austin). The studio has ambient parking for the yogis. When you walk in, the front desk is located on the right for check in. They have available manduka mats, blocks, and straps for your practice. They sell water and other sport drinks. To the right are "cubbies" similar to the kindergarten days to store your excess clothes, purses, shoes, etc. There is a water fountain that trickles water (try to fill your water bottle before practice or else spend a minute filling a 24oz bottle). There is an extremely clean bathroom (probably want to poop at home). When you enter the studio, they provide sweat towels. To conclude practices, they give cold and lavendar-scented savasana towels! I have attended 6 sessions and have always enjoyed how crowded and sweaty my fellow yogi's and I get. The studio is heated for multiple reasons: detoxicification, cardiovascular workout, and increase flexibility. The practice are endorsed for yogi's of different levels. The instructors make that clear from the start, but during practice they will recommend suggestions for the experience practicers. So for instance, she will suggest to do this jumping practice. Some people will do hops. Others will be able to spring into handstands. The advance will be able to twist their legs like pretzels, curve their backs, straddle their legs, etc. Lastly, the more people involved in the class, the more fun that we have. Overall, check this place out. Your practice is your practice and Breath and Body assists you with expanding and developing it to higher and untraveled levels. I wish that I lived closer to become a regular practicer at this studio, but have been fortunate for the times that I have practiced here. And you conclude with savasana towels. read more

UNWELCOMING! Never have I enrolled in a yoga studio and dropped out after paying because owner is so ugly and unbearable. Desirae will kick you out after class and reprimand you for every move you make, from where you put your shoes, water, etc...she is so uptight, cold and controlling she ruins any zen vibe from the teachers here. Not a relaxing Namaste atmosphere. This studio does not represent the vibe of Austin, which is very welcoming and chill. With countless yoga studios in Austin, no need to tolerate bad treatment. Go to Wanderlust or Sanctuary yoga for the real ATX Yoga Namaste experience.This place is overpriced and over rated. read more

Not every yoga studio is for every person and after trying three classes here, I have a pretty good feel for Breath & Body. As an old clothes wearing, non-athlete who is currently out of shape and tight as a rubber band, this place isn't for me. Most everyone in the classes I have taken had amazing bodies, wore the latest in yoga gear (including tiny tops to show off their perfect abs), and did every pose with ease. Meanwhile, I'm huffing and puffing away in a corner hoping that no one notices me! The teachers are very kind and they are very excited to be sharing yoga with the class so this is not meant to deter folks from coming. However, if you are new to yoga, not in the best of shape, and a little tentative about all of this, I'd recommend giving one of the local Yoga Yoga studios a try. read more

Specializing in Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Meaning: 90 degree room, traditionally 1.5 hour long classes, and lots and lots of movement. Classes are practically a transcendent experience. Cathartic, even. I think during the last class I sweated out any remaining hangups from adolescence. They do offer shorter classes, lower level, higher level, etc. The teachers here are excellent. The owner, Desirae, is the best yoga teacher I have ever had during my 10 years of doing yoga (er, on-and-off). Her classes are amazing. And the other teachers are excellent, too. This is a studio that's not uptight, not holier-than-thou, and basically, doesn't irritate me in any way when I'm there. That's saying a lot, as yoga teachers and studios generally get on my nerves (e.g. Yoga Yoga). Even the other people taking the classes here are friendly. It's this place and Cary at 24 Hour Fitness at Hancock for me. I will look no further. read more

I had an awful yoga experience here. I came to the standard Breath and Body Vinyasa class using my ClassPass. What I noticed first was that they allowed far too many people to pack into this tiny studio. The mats were quite literally 6 inches apart from each other. For those familiar with Vinyasa-style yoga, this is too close to successfully do the poses. I felt extremely cramped and uncomfortable. The class was a very quick flow, which is fine if you're not a beginner, and I like the challenge. But I could not quite keep up, mostly on account of having to dodge arms and legs around me, being unable to see the instructor part of the time, and by the constant talking (by participants). The rating dropped a full star for the experience of getting punched in the face by the person next to me while we were simultaneously attempting the same move. Overall, I was very disappointed- this was the exact opposite of a what I would want in a yoga experience. I could have enjoyed it if the studio was (A) not packed so close that it was literally a safety issue, (B) they respected the fact that yoga is not practiced with people chatting at all times. read more

This studio was definitely an experience. Not necessarily a good one, though. Came here via class pass, but have been wanting to try it for ages because its in the hood and I always drive by it. My first impression when I walked in was I saw the teacher swat a fly with a tennis racket. There continued to be flies in the studio (which I found super gross), and distracting from practice. Second, the studio was so crowded. They should allow less people in the classes, because there was really no room to practice. At one point I thought my neighbor was about to fall on top of me after a handstand. Also, it was so crowded I was constantly touching my neighbors sweat on the floor. I'm a clean freak, so it might be me, but I didn't like being this close to my neighbor. I immediately showered after. Thirdly, the class is listed as "all levels" but definitely for the more advanced. They should offer better pose options for those of us who can't do everything yet, as I felt like most of the time I was just doing down dog and warrior one and two poses as my "alternative option" which wasn't really helping me with my practice getting stronger. I really wanted to like the place, the instructor was sweet and motivating. I just didn't like the studio space. I did however, enjoy the lavender infused towel they give you after to cool down with. And, the grapefruit slices at the end is a nice touch! I've been really happy so far with my classes and studios I've been to on ClassPass, but I won't be back to this one. read more

Remember Karate Kid (the original one, way back when)? Well, after meeting and practicing with Desirae at Breath and Body for about a month, I pretty much started to look at her as I would have looked at the Cobra Kai sensei from Karate Kid. She's very serious about this studio and she's proud of just how good most of her students are (me excluded). Don't get me wrong, they won't be mean to you or even give you bad looks but this is an advanced studio. These are Yogi's that can Sweep the leg folks. - No question. Anyway, I've tried Black Swan, Yoga Vida and a few others but Desirae is the only instructor who has ever pushed me... and pushed me... until I really started to see improvements. My shoulders started to open up more than ever, handstands occurred and overall progress was made. If you are pretty advanced in your practice, you can expect to make a lot of friends here and fit right in. If not, you can expect to be coached along your path with some of Austin's best. WOW wow wow. First of all, don't let the name fool you. This is not a chillax-and-breathe-and-stretch kind of studio, this is a gasp for air cause you're kicking-butt-and-taking-names kind of studio. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners, but more so for the experienced and flexible. While there were minimal back bends in my hips and hamstrings class, apparently they average 10-15 usually. It's a great workout if that's the yoga you're looking for. Customers often mistaking the back door that leads to a studio for an entrance is kind of distracting though. And the hips and hamstrings class is heated, which wasn't noted when I signed up via classpass. read more

My favorite studio for a kick butt yoga class. You are going to sweat like a pig. You are going to move through poses quickly. You are going to learn new poses in almost every class, if you are so inclined to try them. You will be sore the next day. Sometimes you will walk out saying "wow, that was intense, glad I actually made it through!" Other times you will walk out saying "Hell Yeah!! I rocked that class!" Give it a go. read more

Jen Wu is a yoga madwoman. She motivates and pushes while staying positive and encouraging. Very advanced yogis come here, I believe a lot of them are instructors actually. No need to be intimidated, just be informed. Both the studio and the parking lot get very crowded in the afternoons but the early morning classes do not. Pick your poison. read more

I've been a runner for a couple of years now, but recently I decided to switch it up and try some vinyasa yoga. I really didn't have any idea what I was in for, but I booked a Saturday morning class with Desirae as my first class ever. I freely admit I had no idea what I was in for, but I thought I should just jump in and see if I could hack it. I found B&B through these yelp reviews, and I'm glad that I started out at B&B. I've been dropping into other studios as I travel, but none have the wonderfully positive atmosphere that B&B does. All of the instructors describe the poses as you're flowing so you know which hand/foot is supposed to go where. Their verbal instructions are filled with positivity and encouragement (which we all need to hear more often!). I'm very impressed that all of the yogis can teach power vinyasa but have the flow in each class be so different. B&B is the new yoga yardstick by which I shall measure all other vinyasa studios. I went to Breath & Body Yoga for the first time earlier this month through ClassPass. I immediately loved how simple the studio was, and Desirae and Morgan at the front desk were really welcoming. It was clear most of the students in the studio practice there often but I didn't feel unwelcome or strange if I couldn't do something (I'm looking at you headstand). I LOVED how hands on they were - every person was personally given attention to help get deeper into poses, fix posture, etc. I think the best part, though, was the ice cold lavender tools they hand out during savasana. HEAVEN. I will definitely be back and would recommend BBY to anybody in Austin! read more

Pros: Studio is clean and beautiful. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Andy gave lots of adjustments! Cold rag on your head during savasana (It feels like ecstasy) Cons: Very fast flow. - I attended two classes. The first was an 8:15 with Katie (I think). The second was a 12p with Andy. The 8:15 class did not follow the "one breath, one pose" rule. The temperature was also very hot. Temperature. - The 8:15 class was way too hot for me. Andy's class was an appropriate level of warmth. i.e. I wasn't about to stroke out. If you don't mind hot classes and rapid fire yoga posing then this is a great spot. read more

I've been consistently coming to this studio for about a year and half. By consistently, I mean about once a week to the studio and once week with the videos (the yoga videos totally rock and help me get my yoga fix when I'm stuck in the office or traveling). In the past year and half, I have not become this amazing yogi that does hand stands between chatranga. Frankly, I'm lucky if I can hold crow for more than 3 seconds. What I have learned in the past year is to be more accepting of my body and the things it needs. Also, to let go. It's a fantastic place and the teachers on Sunday are my favorite. I love the studio- it's clean, well-lit, the teachers are friendly, and they are conveniently located in a great neighborhood. The classes are challenging and you feel like you get a great workout with each one. The small attentions are great too- cool, damp towels are laid on your eyes during shivasana and there is always cut up fruit on the counter after class. The only draw-back to the studio is that membership is expensive and not affordable for most people. I'd love it if they offered lower prices- I'd definitely make it my studio! read more

I LOVE YOGA! I have practiced most places in town. Most all of them have their own strengths, but I've never experienced anything quite like Breath & Body Yoga. The studio is always so clean and everyone is so welcoming and friendly! They have a very specific system of alignment which has liberated my body and ended so much of the post-yoga body aches I used to get! The studio owner Desirae is AMAZINGLY knowledgeable and wonderfully kind! Take her class!!!!! The classes are ALWAYS challenging, and FUN! I've learned so much about my body and been able to do things I've never done before! I'm MUCH stronger and more confident. My true love has always been long distance running, but after 20 years, I felt like it was time to try some new things. But the reality is that when I work out....I really want to feel like I've worked out. Could yoga really compare to a 15 mile run on Saturday morning? At this yoga studio....absolutely! I love Desirae's 1.5 hour class on Saturday morning. The only yoga experience I have is online classes, and I am able to keep up just fine. The classes are totally a personal thing. If you need a break, take one. And if something is too challenging, then you can modify, and work up to it later. I am not intimidated at all by the more experienced members in the class. She has a special for new members so that you have a chance to really try the classes before making a longer commitment. One small addition...the studio is extremely clean. I recently went to Breath and Body to try a new yoga place and I really enjoyed it. It was pretty fast paced and I would consider it advanced but I felt like it was a good challenge for me. It felt comfortable where everyone could take their own variations and feel good at their own pace. It was a pretty crowded class though. What a sapphire of a studio. Having been a yogi since age 12 in Boston, where my Dad took me to the original Baptiste Power Yoga Studio, I have seen my share of yoga spots and communities. To provide a bit more background and really the best analogy I can think of to give justice to Breath and Body...I've been living in Austin for a year and a half now and have been "dating" studios on and off ever since. Well...I guess I should say ever since yesterday. Like many relationships, until you find the one that just fits, other yoga studios brought me varying amounts of joy, workout and clarity.... but they were just missing something. That special something. For example: -Black Swan (think of that relationship that was fun and spontaneous, but when it came down to it, they just couldn't be there in those clutch moments) ---- trendy and hip in its donation set up, the inconsistency of BSY teachers wore on me. Once a teacher told us that we should be expecting great yoga butts after class (isn't care about physical appearance the antithesis of yoga?). -Yoga Vida (that significant other that was a bit older/wiser than you, made you feel good and treated you great, but their elevated taste were just a bit too expensive and culty) ---I really like Yoga Vida, especially Vic McWerther's class. But the classes really started to hurt my wallet and there seemed to be some spiritual aspect missing. I'd leave the class feeling like a rung out wash cloth but my head was still dizzy with thoughts. -Bfree (That hippie or younger guy/girl you dated when you wanted to try something alternative. Things didn't work out because they were still figuring out who they were)...BFree is an up and coming studio (previously bodhi yoga) finding its stride. The classes are enjoyable and the teachers friendly, but the atmosphere felt more 'lets workout' than let's breathe. -Sunstone - (that relationship you had just to piss off your mom. enough said). .....and then enter Breath and Body. Where had you been all my life?! Breath and Body, the only Baptiste affiliated studio in Austin is located off of 45th and Burnett among the hustle and fast paced moreso cultured strip mall area of the Rosedale community. The studio is smaller than you'd imagine such a studio "should be"...however, it can fit even more people than you'd imagine. I purchased the $50 monthly unlimited new student offer and have been back every single day since. The classes are taught by teachers that balance physical exertion, lengthening of muscles and mind, with effortless spiritual guidance. Typically, i shy away from 1.5 hour classes in the heat; it can be a little much. But at B&B classes, I never have once thought about what time it is, when the class will be over, etc. The studio is cute (there's not a TON of space to get your things together, thats a drawback) and the community atmosphere is thus far unrivaled. The owner, Desirae has an aura that is as welcoming as it is genuine. Teachers at B&B are not 'weird, crunchy, yoga people' but rather physical guides that pave the way for you to find your niche in your practice. I wouldn't hesitate to say that I enjoy B&B more than Baptiste studios up north. Needless to say, I'm off the market. read more

Over the past month, I fully utilized a one-month trial membership at both Breath & Body studios. Since about 90% of the classes are power yoga, they're basically all the same but I did take them at many different times (6a, 8:15a, 10a, 12p, 4:30p, and 6:15) from a variety of different instructors so I definitely got a feel for what the studios offer. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Austin Breath & Body Yoga studios: The Good The $60 one-month trial membership allows yogis to take unlimited classes for 30 consecutive days. This is a really generous "intro deal" and it allowed me to take classes 4-5 times a week to get a really good feel for the studios. The classes are taught by really nice, competent instructors who use a regular routine, mixed up slightly depending on who is teaching. Since the classes are all power classes taught in a hot room, they get your heart rate up and get you sweating right away! The flow incorporates chaturanga dandasana so often you can't help but build arm strength - yesssss! I loved this part. Even with an injury that limits the strength through my left arm/fingers, every high pushup, low pushup, up dog, down dog flow was a joy and definitely increased my muscle tone and flexibility. Cold, lavender-infused (I think) towels during shavasana. Good god this was amazing. Every single time I finished half pigeon on my left side, I got giddy thinking about what was coming next. It was a generous perk that really made my day every MWFSa for a month. There are two studios and both have plenty of free parking. There are a lot of class passes and membership options to fit with personal workout needs. The Bad Where can a person go in this town to get a boat pose?? None of the classes I took spent any concentrated/dedicated time on core/abs. While all poses require strong abs, it's really critical to work specifically on core specifically to build strength so that the rest of the poses are easier to achieve and maintain. This seems to be a theme in Austin, but I'm just a few months in to my search for a good studio for me here in town. The flow is fast, and in my opinion, often dangerously fast. This is an advanced/expert yogi studio and if you're not at that level, it's a struggle (and often a losing battle) to keep up with the instructor's pace. This results in sloppy transitions and not being able to hold poses, which can result in injuries. While the instructors were all nice when I mentioned this concern, each of them responded the same way: "The classes are for everyone. You can just slow down to fit the pace you need." This isn't really possible though - by the time I get to the next post, the instructor is three poses ahead of me and I have no idea where to go next. I ended up in down dog a lot, waiting for the series to repeat. This was frustrating and didn't allow me to build my practice. There were a few advanced/expert yogis in some of the classes who really went above and beyond the regular class. They are the folks who are clearly at such an advanced level that they're bored with the regular flow and in the middle of a series, start doing other poses from headstands to back bends to crazy contortions I've never seen before. While I can appreciate their talent and skill, I also found it extremely distracting, which would often throw me off balance. There are plenty of ways to intensify poses, but these were so "extra" that they definitely threw me off my game. The regular drop-in rate for classes is a bit high $25 per class. The Ugly There really is no "ugly" for these studios, other than the pace (above). Bottom Line: The classes are a good, solid workout, but the pace is a concern for anyone whose skill level is below advanced. I spent every minute of the 60 minute classes for the entire first two weeks of my practice at Breath & Body thinking "I'm never coming back after my trial month. Just finish this month and you can go somewhere else." After 30 days, though, I've backed off from that stance. It might not be the studio where I end up, but I do think it's an amazing place for advanced/expert yogis to practice. Favorite instructors: Jen and Andy. Jen is kind, consistent, and really encouraging. I love hearing her tell us "you are so so strong, you can do this." I only took one class with Andy and her energy is amazing. Also, her music resonates with me - there's something about 90s rap/hip hop and yoga that really does it for me! read more

I've tried a good number of studios around town, and this one fulfills a niche like no other. The instructors are all excellent and knowledgeable, and I learn something new in every class. The space is on the small side, but clean, bright, and welcoming (and remarkably soundproof). It consists of one large room and the front lobby. There's a unisex bathroom/changing room, but no showers. You should come dressed and ready to go. I love this studio. That said, if you're new to yoga, I don't know if this is the best place to start. B&B is a Baptiste-affiliated studio. Baptiste power yoga is a mixed style drawing primarily from bikram and ashtanga. There's also an additional emphasis on personal development which I think is unique to the style. The flow is rigorous; your strength, focus, and determination are pushed firmly in every class. The instructors are engaged; they're hands-on and not shy about giving adjustments and offering insights. To explore these movements safely and to maximize the benefits requires proper alignment. While the instructors do a good job with the cues, the style in general seems to presume a baseline knowledge of alignment. In this regard, it's not beginner-friendly. You're encouraged to modify as necessary, but again this is knowledge a beginner wouldn't have. I'm not suggesting that this detracts from the studio in any way; on the contrary, I'm glad the focus is on intermediate and advanced practices. Personally I've found huge gains here, especially with my inversions, which studios sometimes hesitate to teach (with good reason). If you want to really advance your practice, this is a great place to do it. read more

This yoga studio is so clean and zen. Desirae is the owner and is very personable and offers intense classes. I prefer the Hour of Power, as it the shortest class and moves quickly. This is actually the fastest vinyasa flow I have encountered. The instructors switch it up, offer modifications, and push you to try new things. The studio is heated, they offer teacher trainings, and have fresh fruit cut up available after class. My favorite little extra at BBY, which sets them apArt from the other yoga studios I have visited, is the cold, eucalyptus towels that are placed on your forehead during shavasana. It is simply Devine after a heated class. The restroom is so clean, the studio is so simple and modern, and there is plenty of parking behind the building. I really enjoy B&B yoga and the fast vinyasa flow has broadened my yoga practice. read more

Amazing workout, great teachers who are very explicit and helpful with instructions, prepare to sweat your a** off (a good thing). This studio is amazing in every way the yoga is challenging yet the spiritual component is still met. The studio has a very convenient online payment and class reservation system which is nice. The best things about this place are that during savasana they USUALLY put a cold eucalyptus soaked towlette over your eyes and they also produce and sell their own kombucha that is one of the best I've had. read more

I've been here 2 on free yoga nights. I've been doing yoga for about 2/3 months & have a studio I call home (yoga con amor) how ever my really good friend goes to breath and body so the free yoga is awesome bcuz we get to practice together. I use yoga to not only get a work out but to meditate and feel relaxed. I feel like when I go to breath & body all I get is a work out and no time to relax and really have time to go into different poses & feel them. Having said that once in a while it's nice to go there but I prefer yoga con amor where the teachers really have time to work with u and u get ur peace of mind for an hr. :) read more

My favorite yoga in Austin! Period. It's a great community that encourages and challenges one another. I have been practicing vinyasa style yoga for about 10 years and it never gets old because I continue to grow my practice at Breath and Body. The teachers are continually learning and training and sharing with the students. If you just want cool, loud music, this isn't the place. If you want a super slow, restful practice, this probably isn't the place. If you want to grow as a yogi and as a person and step into your strength and power, this is the place to do it!! And the spaces are beautiful. They just added another lovely studio in Tarrytown. Check it out. read more

Highly recommend this studio if you have experience with flow classes and are interested in challenging yourself (i.e. if you know warrior 1/2, crescent lunge, triangle, downward dog, eagle, half moon and bridge you can totally get by). All the classes I've attended are intense, swiftly-paced flow workouts that then also make time near the end for some unwinding in pigeon or Shavasana. For anyone feeling like it is too challenging, I would encourage you to reach out to the instructor beforehand to suggest modifications to poses. I recently gave birth and am getting back into my yoga practice, so I take breaks and modify when I need and the instructors are always supportive. read more

I had a much better experience Tuesday, 7/12/14. I took the hamstrings and thighs class, I think that's what it's called. It was a quick pace, heated class that focused a little more on the legs. I really enjoyed the class and the instructor. This studio (both the Burnet and Exposition locations) is my favorite in Austin; they have watermelon after every class and they put an iced towel over your eyes during shavasana. This class reminded me how much I like the studio and the instructors. read more

I am addicted to BBY. I have to come here at least 2 times per week or I get the shakes. The teachers here are amazing, super knowledgable and will kick your booty. You will sweat like you have never sweated before. Trust me. It's truly an amazing place to get your flow on!!! read more

I have never had a bad experience here. Yes, some of the popular classes can get crowded but everyone makes room and you do you best. I been to plenty of studios that pack it in (read popular classes) to make sure everyone is included. The instructors are all very helpful without being condescending. they correct and help you get better. if you need help they are always there. I'm a newbie myself and even though I'm not as fit or good as the other people there I don't feel they look down on me for it. there are a lot of regulars so yes they talk and chitchat but it's never been offensive. bottom line- Awesome studio no matter what level you are at. they've really helped me improve my practice and get stronger. read more

I've never done yoga in my life before coming here. Everyone was very welcoming and Shannon is a great instructor! I did feel a bit intimidated since it's an all levels class but I did what I could. Very challenging & I loved it! Definitely coming back. read more
