And the rude guy was so scary and just kick me out of the class when I gave review according to what I felt inside the room environment. I have taken First Aid / CPR courses over the years and by far this one was the best class I ever took. No sitting in classes for two days straight ( you can choose it but the binary one is better ) or you can do the first part online *. Each section completed you must do the exam - passing mark is 80. if you failed, you just redo the section. The second day is a review of the first day and you do hands on CPR . The instructor makes sure you understand it and can do it . Pretty basic and easy. I liked the online course because 1. you can always go back to do a refresher or go over something if you need to. 2. You can do it any time as long as you complete it before the class . If you dont , then you do not get certified. I have had previous classes that were boring or the instructor just did not engage the class. My instructor ( sorry i forgot his name ) was really good with us and made it fun . I really got more out of this class than any other . As for the price for the class, it was reasonable and they did not make you buy books or kits - although the kits are handy, you can probably make your own for a lot less. There is plenty of parking in the back and the front - make sure you park in the designated spots or you could be towed. So if you live on the south side of Edmonton and looking for a good class in First Aid , I would suggest checking these guys out. read more

The course itself is fine. I signed up for CPR hcp. The owner of this company is the problem. She is extremely rude and hostile. When I arrived for my paid course and signed in, you think she was doing me a favour. Then they had several different books cause apparently they charge differently for CPR courses but then put us all in the same class. After the course I got a phone call that they wouldn't give me my certificate because they gave me the wrong book. How is that my problem? They also didn't want to refund my money. I had to drive to what I assume is her mothers house, return the book to get my certificate after saying I would report them to the better business bureau. If you want to know what this owner is like, go to google reviews. There is a one star review with a response from the owner. You can clearly see how hostile and rude she is there. Times that by 10 in person. The one plus is they are cheaper. Just make sure you have good self esteem before dealing with her. Please note: Dominique changes her reply to my comment every few months. I wish I kept a screen shot of the ones where she called me names and said I have mental health issues. If you are considering getting First Aid certification, I highly recommend going with Breath for Life. I needed certification when I was working in childcare, and I didn't regret going with this provider. They are an authorized provider of the Canadian Red Cross, which means their courses are based on the Red Cross program. They're also based in Northern and Central Alberta, so you'd be choosing a locally-based (well, kind of local) group. I went with Breath for Life because they offered the lowest rate for certification, as opposed to competitors like St. John's. I didn't like that the courses lasted an entire weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, from 7:45am to 4:30pm. I was pretty grumpy both mornings, angry that my whole weekend was being taken away and that I needed to get up super-early to do it. Actually, I had to get up a little earlier as the location of the course was all the way on the north side of town, which is across town for me. Unfortunately, most first aid courses have a similar schedule, so that you're educated and certified and good to go asap. On the bright side, the instructors were really quick, and let our class out early on both days. They taught us at a level we could understand, didn't go too quickly, answered any questions we had, and stressed what would be on the test so we could remember. There were breaks and a lunch break in the afternoon for both days. I sat down and had lunch with one of the instructors on the last day, and we chatted about ourselves and the course. The course consisted of some lecture, and some hands-on situational stuff with the dummies. A written test was given on the last day, but we were able to work in groups so there was no stress. We were able to keep our first aid booklets with us after we left, which is great because you never know when it will come in handy. So think about going with them if you're thinking about becoming a First Aider, or need to get recertified. They also sell first aid kits and supplies, if you already know your stuff and just need the tools. read more

I had some circumstances(emergency shutdown) at work and knew I wont be able to show up for the course that I paid over $600 for. So I called more than a month prior to the course to be proactive and give them time to have someone else fill in my space and explained my situation and told her I'm sorry. Excellent and over the top customer service after I was told that if I am looking at course renewal option on their website then it is renewal. If it is full, then it is full and I cant register. She told me she got other calls to answer. Called again because it was unclear why my expired CPR could be renewed. I spoke to the 2nd person and he was accommodating to my questions and explained to me well how I could still renew.(no sarcasm) Decided to provide feedback that his associate I spoke to earlier was condescending. He responded that I have a misperception because he was beside her during the whole phone convo and heard his associate. He told me she was never condescending and I had a misperception. I recently called to enquire about a CPR level C course that was listed on the website. It was listed as 9-12pm when all others were 8-12pm. Because I have to arrange child care I needed to know whether it was a typo and the course was 3 or 4 hours long. The receptionist was very very rude and annoyed that i was asking questions. She said, the class is from 9-1pm and then said: "If it will make you happy, I will change it on the website." I told her I would go somewhere else. Not the way to run a business. The best CPR course I've taken. The instructors made it fun and relaxed. I learned so much and feel confident with my training. Even the group practice was enjoyable because the atmosphere was not tense or boring. I highly recommend them. I laughed so much and learned life saving skills that I can be proud of. IS THERE A RATING FOR NO STARS? Called to enroll into a course, the phone was answered by a lady who seem not to care what I had to day, she was condescending and rude when I ask asking more information of a course. I would get cut off after each word I spoke, she was telling me " just look at the web site, look at the web site" after required more that what was on the web site, told me I was wrong, and straight out treated me like shit. After telling her I didn't appreciate the was she was speaking she said sorry cant help you and hung up. I called back to speak with " management" to convey my concerns about the way that specific person was treating customers and possible register with him, He looses it!!!! accuses me of saying stuff I never mentioned or said, says he has no problem with the person behind the desk of how she preforms, and that I shouldn't be calling if a cant understand what is on the web site. I then proceeded to mention what the information they were talking about was not on the web site, and he cuts me off ( yelling!!) screaming about how he personally built the web site him self and ask me if there was anything else and hung up. Where do I begin.. First off, let me point out this is the first review I have posted, and signed up with Yelp specifically to review this company. I am not reviewing Breath For Life based on their education, but for the lack of customer service, and absolutely hostile owner Dominique Graf. Ms. Graf decided to lose her cool, and yell at me, telling me to "be quiet" and shouting "I'm not refunding your money unless I explain to you why I'm calling". ..Let me start from the beginning, and tell you all that transpired, and forced me to review this business. Thurs May 30 2013, I called Breath For Life to sign up for the HCP-C course and signed up with a 80 year old man. (not kidding). I was working at the time, and my partner was sitting in the vehicle with me and had to listen to the entire, lengthy conversation. The old man took forever to take my info, and was confused about the dates of the class. O.K fine. Even after I gave my email address, I repeated it back to him and he agreed that was what he had. It was that obvious he should be retired. I never got the email confirming the payment or class information. But that is besides the point as I realised I needed to be in Standard First Aid level C, not HCP-C. (my mistake). So June 3rd, I call up Breath For Life, and who should answer? The old man. First, it took him the longest time to take my info, and when I said " I never received the email" he actually got angry with me and stated " emails do not always make it to people, it happens all the time. You should have emailed me stating you never got it, and I would reply". I just said " oh ya"..I wasn't about to argue why I never got the email with a 80 year old, I knew he didn't write down the info properly, but my issue was I needed a refund. He was angry at first and said very abruptly "we have CPR level C I'll rebook you". Just his tone of voice made me irritated, and I proceeded to tell him I would like a refund, and would call back if I wanted to rebook. He said there was a 15% charge for refunds, and told me to just rebook. I refused. Then, I see there is 2 missed calls from Breath For Life. I call back, and Ms. Dominique Graf answers. Immediately she is on the defensive and rudely states " you had an email sent to mrslang..." I interrupted her and advised that That was the wrong email, address" She then went on to yell at me and accused me of going somewhere else, and told me to "be quiet" and I again interrupted her and advised her I wanted a refund". She yelled at me for a few more seconds, and the entire time I had my mouth open in shock, disbelief and thought 'this cannot be happening'. Never in my life have I had someone in any business have such a temper tantrum! This woman is not a R.N any more for a reason! I barely registered anything she was yelling, but I know she was angry I was cancelling. Here is the email I received from her: (pasted from my email) Christine L**** Here is the email that you should have received. I apologize that an error was made in the email address- in life one is not always perfect. I was calling today to simply clarify your intentions. I am sending you what you should have received so that you can see that you should be charged a $50+gst cancellation fee as it is less than 10 days notice. It is not my fault you no longer need the course- or so you claim. I will process the credit minus a 15% percent fee for our troubles (and this was clearly told to you when you phoned this morning). I am not exactly sure when today this will happen- patience is important in life. Hope you enjoy your course that you have booked elsewhere for whatever reason you decided to just up and cancel with us. Have a nice day. Here is my response, I was vibrating at the time: I am not intending on taking the course at all in the future. I need CPR level C, and if the gentleman that answered my call initially was not so rude initially, I would have rebooked so I lied to him to get the call over with. After witnessing the most horrible level of customer service , and after being yelled at, I bet my next pay check that you are no longer a RN because you lack people skills, have a short fuze and spaz out. As well, my course was a little over 100$, charging me 50$ is uncalled for and I will be having visa reverse the entire charge to your " company" if anything more than 15 percent has been held back.
